To ask for best coffee machines

Sorry I don’t know where to post this it’s I can’t find a food section!

I have just discovered coffee- I used to be a tea drinker! I absolutely love cappuccino that you get in coffee shops.

Does anyone know how I can recreate this at home - is there a simple and best coffee machine that would do this for me?! Any tips
Very much appreciated thank you ☺️ from someone spending too much money in coffee shops right now 😂

LaPavoni lever machine. Had ours over thirty years - still going strong. Makes brilliant espressos / cappuccinos (and looks great too 😀).
Expensive but incredibly durable.

Don’t get a tassimo OP they are crap and the coffee quality is rubbish

I have a Nespresso creatista and also a Sage barista express impress

It depends on your budget and how much effort you want to put in to learning how to make good coffee. If you go for a barista machine, the quality of the coffee you get out of it (with decent beans) is much better than coffee shop standard (apart from the odd independent one that gets it right)

Unsure of budget- maybe up to £300. Something small would be good so I can keep it out.

This sounds daft but is it obvious what coffee beans to buy? Or is it instant coffee I buy to put in it …. Hoping for a machine that’s very easy to use as I’m a bit stuck on technology 🙈🙈

Do you have a coffee nerd shop local to you?
look for somewhere that sells various types of coffee maker and roasts their own beans and is full of hipsters, they'll be able to help you!

There's no such thing as 'best' where it comes to coffee, it's personal taste. Different beans and roasts taste different, how it's ground makes a difference, how the maker works makes a difference (to do with how the oils are extracted I believe, so something that drips through tastes different to something that forces the water through).

Sage Creatista Plus, which is on special at Amazon at the moment. Super easy to use and clean, lovely coffee. Nice looking little machine too.

De Longhi Magnifica, bean to cup machine. If my house was on fire I would carry this out ( with the cat and my camera).
if it dies tomorrow I will buy a new one straight away. I luff it.

MarySueSaidBoo · 10/07/2025 20:01

I've got a Sage nespresso machine that uses pods and has a steam wand for that professional touch. Think it's a Creatista plus.

Got £100 off in the sale and I'm so obsessed with it I even take it on holiday!

Delonghi are the best and you can use ground coffee which is much quicker. Melitta also have a good reputation but I think they are all bean-to-cup. I don't like tge pod ones.

Angrymum22 · 10/07/2025 20:02

I have tried coffee pod machine, manual espresso machine ( Gaggio) but just bought a Ninja bean to cup machine and very happy with the results. It’s not fully automatic but you can make expresso and filter coffee with it. You can change the strength and heat of the water but it’s very simple to use.
I use a water filter jug because we have hard water. With my Gaggia machine I spent more time descaling and cleaning it than making coffee, the new one has a filter with the jug filter hopefully I will have less problems.
Also freshly ground beans produce much better coffee. Pod and simpler machines just don’t compare flavour wise.
You need to do a bit of research to see what the machine does. I narrowed it down to sage and ninja. The Ninja has compartments to store all the gadgets you need.
I would also buy a knock box for used coffee grains. It makes emptying the coffee grain carrier, portafilter, easier.

Get a DeLonghi from 'delongji refurbished' on EBay. They are returns and products with minor cosmetic defects. They are MUCH cheaper than elsewhere.

New2you · 10/07/2025 20:14

Sage bean to cup, read up on YouTube videos for it and you should be fine. Different machines have different coffee inputs. However I wouldn’t buy anything but bean to cup now I’ve had it for years.

Aeropress and spend the extra £ on the coffee

Yep - we have a cheap stovetop espresso maker. Decent coffee and a milk frother gets you a good cappuccino.

We’ve got the Nespresso Sage machine. It’s fantastic and a daily joy! Coffee shop coffee at home. I couldn’t live without it now.

I’ve got this one as well. It’s brilliant and the coffe is just as good as a coffee shop.

NDstress · 10/07/2025 20:39

De'Longhi La Specialista Arte, it’s brilliant use it every day instead of buying coffee out.

Definitely get a bean to cup for ease. Coffee beans - I get mine from Rave and they’re freshly roasted to order but honestly supermarket whole coffee beans are pretty decent too

@longapple second vote for finding a hipster. They know their coffee 😂

You should be able to get a bean to cop machine for around that price (maybe a bit more).

With a bean to cup machine you will want to buy whole beans - probably from a specialist roaster. Store them somewhere cool and they will keep for a month or so - only put as much as you need for a day or two into the machine.

Good roasters include:

Rave (My personal favourite)
Ozone
Pact

Most of them will do subscriptions that will delivery different beans every month allowing you to work out what you prefer. A good starting point is working out whether you prefer darker or lighter roast coffees (darker = Italian / Starbucks - more bitter roasted notes, lighter = more fruity, nutty, less bitter).
