Greg Wallace’s autism means that he can’t wear underwear. Really?

Headline in today’s Times. As a mother of a diagnosed autistic DS I find this playing of the disability card pretty offensive. He also blames the BBC for not supporting him in managing his disability. He is capable of putting a sock on his privates when exposing himself to lowly and therefore vulnerable female staff members, so it seems that he got over his sensory sensitivities to some extent. His consistent blaming of others and absolute lack of self-awareness or remorse for his actions is just reprehensible I think.

Just googled ‘has Gregg Wallace got a job’ and discovered he is an MBE. Wtf ?

MissDoubleU · 10/07/2025 10:57

Unfortunately it isn’t the first and won’t be the last time that ASD is used to excuse sexual harassment or worse. I have experienced SA twice by diagnosed autistic adults and both times I have been told I would be disgusting for seeking justice against them because of their diagnosis.

I am also a diagnosed (since childhood) ASD adult. These men, like GW, knew exactly what they were doing. It’s not only infuriating but genuinely triggering and personally upsetting to see these kinds of statements.

WhatTheHelll · 10/07/2025 10:58

It’s sensory issues apparently. A women at works kid claims the same thing.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/07/2025 11:01

Autism might make it hard for GW to wear underwear - but it does NOT make it impossible for him to treat his co-workers with respect, and it DOESN’T excuse him deliberately exposing himself to women.

The more I hear, the more he sounds like a nasty peeve, who is now trying to use being ND to excuse predatory behaviour. Vile.

He needs stripping of that! What the fuck has he contributed to anything to warrant that?! Just for being a "cheeky chappy" greengrocer?! Cos I can't see that he's done anything else worthy of an MBE! (But then I've always said they hand these "honours" out like Smarties! It's about time they packed that in too!)
As for "Egg Willies" himself, he's always been a creep, ever since he first appeared on our screens, it was blatantly obvious. He used to favour female guests over male and fawn all over them with his double entendres and sexual innuendo. And now he's back pedalling badly and doing himself no favours. Autism my arse! Using that excuse for his predatory behaviour? He's the lowest of the absolute low.
He needs to shut his mouth for once and be brought to account for his all round hideous behaviour. And accept that he's a sleaze.
And I think the BBC need investigating for all the cover ups they've orchestrated over the decades, but I think we all know that'll never happen!

caramac04 · 10/07/2025 11:08

I do understand that someone with autism may well have sensory issues and that could mean restrictive clothing is a problem for them. For some, certain foods and textures can’t be tolerated.
I just don’t believe autism explains GW’s indecent exposure or other unacceptable behaviours.

swimlyn · 10/07/2025 11:18

Apparently his tailor is also ND, and has trouble sewing trouser buttons on correctly.

This explains the whole situation.

Choccyp1g · 10/07/2025 11:18

It's absolutely fine not to wear underwear, so long as you keep your outerwear on.

Bluevelvetsofa · 10/07/2025 11:36

Sensitivity to certain types of fabric is something than autistic people can and do have. If GW chooses not to wear underwear because he doesn’t like the fabric, that’s up to him. As @Choccyp1g says, he should ensure that his outerwear stays in place.

TheAutumnCrow · 10/07/2025 11:40

There are numerous threads on MN on Masterchef that stretch back for years. Gregg Wallace is panned by many posters in all of them - as a shit presenter, an apparent creep, and a general man-who-ignites-the-spidey-senses. Comments would frequently include things like ‘I prefer the Friday show because Gregg’s not in it’, and ‘god, he’s letching over that poor woman again’.

He didn’t even have ‘popularity’ for the BBC to see past when the complaints started coming in years ago. He is easily replaceable and he’s now realising this, and clutching at straws. But who protected him all these years till now?

(His ‘day in the life article’ was also very illuminating, regarding how he treated his wife and child.)

Cattery · 10/07/2025 11:40

He’s come out fighting. Zero self awareness. The man is a giant arsehole

EnjoythemoneyJane · 10/07/2025 11:41

Entitled, arrogant sexual predator and full time arsehole - who (like so many similar men) believes his minor celebrity is a fucking cloak of invisibility - plays both victim and disability cards in full expectation of public sympathy?

Shocker.

Darragon · 10/07/2025 09:43

Why does he keep coming out with this total bullshit and expecting people to believe it? It's very narcissistic to present such 1/10 lies and believe the general public is stupid enough to swallow them.

I think he’s been advised that he doesn’t need everyone to believe him, just the people who want to believe him (or agree with him).

but I agree he is despicable.

Jimmy Saville was knighted, the honours list is full of them.

We aren't waving our dick around. It's a pretty easy rule to follow. They just don't want to. It's not an Autism issue, it's an entitlement and I'm A Special Exception issue. He's digging himeslf a hole, desperately, let him.

I’m no longer surprised by anything GW says. Did he say this or was it satire? 🤣

hyggetyggedotorg · 10/07/2025 11:48

Yep, totally possible that he prefers not to wear underwear due to sensory issues. My DS struggles to wear socks for the same reason.

Totally no need for anyone other than him to know that though! You can still be autistic and also a sex pest, although the vast majority of autistic people I know are most definitely not.

HRTQueen · 10/07/2025 11:50

He knows he is not wearing underwear so not an excuse to expose himself

for some people who have autism they do have sensory issues (for him that maybe not liking tight clothes)

MrsEmmelinePankhurst · 10/07/2025 11:55

Funnily enough I’ve managed never to sexually assault anyone even though my autism wasn’t diagnosed until I was 51. I’ve also managed not to claim that it’s my employer’s fault that I’m a predatory sex offender.

Bastard. Into the dock and then a prison cell please.

stitchy · 10/07/2025 12:02

My ds is nd and has sensory issues and is very specific about his underwear so he chooses loose fitting cotton boxers and not sexually harassing people.
It pisses me off so much that ND is the go-to excuse to try and justify shitty and predatory behaviour

Plus I don't see how going commando is any more comfortable, it's not as if Gregg is famous for wearing palazzo pants.
Ugh just the thought of his ball sack and crack roaming all over his suit trouser crotch seams, whatever he pays his dry cleaner it's not enough

MatildaTheCat · 10/07/2025 12:10

And he’s whingeing about being unfairly cancelled and discriminated against. Says. He won’t go quietly.

Twat.

Greg, find yourself a new PR team.

Dontwanttobeanebsnamum · 10/07/2025 12:11

My youngest (likely autistic) can’t stand knickers under clothes but at the age of 5 she is well aware that she must wear them with a dress because we don’t show our private areas in public.

So yes not wearing underwear due to sensory issues can be a common among people who are autisitc but it doesn’t they get to sexually abuse people.

x2boys · 10/07/2025 12:17

It comes down to the fact that GW has the capacity to understand how his actions impact others ,it's and insult to those that don't have the capacity to understand when they are behaving inappropriately, and how that limits their lives for him to use autism as an excuse.

notedbiscuits · 10/07/2025 12:18

He’s getting zero sympathy for blaming autism for his pulling down pants to the opposite gender. He is a horrible man.

Cherrytree86 · 10/07/2025 12:22

He’s a stupid fucking prick, totally insulting to the autistic community. Shame on him.
