To think there must be something that can be done for an aging face?

Anyone have any procedures done that have actually worked? I've had Botox and profilo. If you have any experience with polynucleotides or mid face fillers or micro needling with RF please let me know.

I need some volumising and some any wrinkle help (lower face).

If you are in the aging gracefully brigade or don't believe in cosmetic injectables this is not your thread.

Late 60’s here, and I hate every minute of ageing.
I have nearly finished a tube of Tretinoin cream, prescription from the doctor.
No results. It’s dark spots I hate, and always looking tired.

Edited

Tret did nothing for me except make my face look more blotchy with weird itchy bits. The brown spots stayed the same. I gave it a good 18 months too.

Jacobs4 · 09/07/2025 14:05

Getting rid of dark spots would be great. They bother me more than looking my age.

Ok thanks, how much filler in the mid face? Are you in London, recommend anywhere?

Got the absolute minimum that was available but it really worked well.

Sorry I’m very far from Scotland so can’t recommend anyone down your way!

AngularMerkin · 09/07/2025 20:38

I think there’s only so much that skincare/botox/filler/ultherapy etc can achieve and if you want really good results you have to go for the expensive and aggressive options like surgery and having your skin lasered off. I am saving hard, only mid forties and my face already looks like a melted candle sadly.

Are face lefts less aggressive these days? I keep picturing movies where women are covered up like mummies for weeks with black eyes 🤣

Apparently that's quite easy, but I assume not cheap!

My mum had a facelift at 57 and and eye lift at 66. She looked amazing and no one had any idea. But she was very careful in her research for a good practitioner.

Ooo what was the downtime like?

I bet you don't! I know how you feel though!

@FeministUnderTheCatriarchy can you tell me which dr gross pads please? I’ve just googled and there are too many different types. I want your ones if they give results!
Tia.

JLou08 · 15/07/2025 16:41

RF is really good for lifting the face amd giving subtle volume.

Radio frequency facial. 6 sessions are recommended. I started seeing results after the 2nd session and they lasted for about a year.

Game0fCrones · 08/07/2025 18:11

Once past 55, the only option is a facelift (for mid, lower face and neck). Sagging skin needs lifting, not filling. Filling causes problems when trying to lift surgically (as does laser treatment and needling due to the scarring).

Be very careful with Sculptra because it keeps on 'growing' years after it's placed, leading to puffy/fat faces (see Tom Cruise & Nicole Kidman and numerous others).

How does laser and microneedling cause scarring? Genuine question as I thought they were meant to help with existing scarring, not cause new scarring.

pearcrumblee · 15/07/2025 18:09

Quit your job, get lots of sleep and eat well.
It delays the muscle loss.

Game0fCrones · 15/07/2025 18:11

They can help with surface scarring but the damage done deeper in the dermis by some lasers and needling can mean that the surgeon later has difficulty separating out the tissue layers when trying to carry out a face lift, especially the very delicate fascia layer.

I did The Universal Daily Peel Pads and then moved up to The Extra Strength Daily Peel Pads.

Don't forget to cut them in half and pop the other half back in the packet and seal with a bobby pin. You get double the amount of use out of the pads and the exact same results.

You don't need to use more than twice a week despite them being called "daily". They are extremely effective and more than twice a week would be quite a lot considering they are strong.

They really are amazing, you'll hate me when you try them because you won't be able to live without them in your routine lol.

Rmemeber not to use other actives (acids or tret or retinols) on the same night as these :)

Oooooo thank you. I read that RF with microneedling can thin the face which is exactly what I don't want. Maybe RF alone is best.

You learn to accept it.

It's purely industries (very successfully) cashing in on making women believe ageing is ugly and unacceptable. (Not men is it ?) And we as a society buy it, hook line and sinker. Industries make billions from it. Can't just have it done once , oh no, you must come back for your ever decreasing time span "top ups"

Honestly? You're attempting to fight an unfightable entity: time (and it's effects)

You may as well get a tea cup and attempt to empty the sea.

Don't smoke. Don't drink alcohol. Drink water. Moisture and clean your skin.

There's plenty of techniques to make you look "brighter" (collagen cream is good) factor 50 sun block. Highlighting sticks etc.

The rest (unless you want to transfer your wages directly into an aestheticians pocket ) Is utterly futile.

Half the recent shit doesn't even look nice (genuinely) who on earth would have thought we would brainwash women into walking round with big thick black fake eyelashes and duck pouts and make them believe they look good ?

JaneEyre40 · 16/07/2025 22:39

Would you recommend using these and tret on other nights?

A good routine that I follow usually is:
No Actives: Monday & Thursday (optional), Sunday
Peel Pads: Tuesday & Saturday
Tretinoin: Wednesday, Friday (optional), Sunday

I recently added in Sunday's tret and my skin has been fine and I am noticing some improvements to texture.

Eventually I will likely not have any off days and will slowly add in more tret, but I am doing it carefully as I have damaged my skin barrier in the past. I am also sticking to 0.025% tret as I see results and can use it frequently. The minute I go up in strength my skin freaks out and never seems to adjust.

Make sure your other skincare is really gentle and soothing when using the peel pads and tret. I like Vanicream, Curel, Aestura and Illyoon for moisterisers and cleansers. Cerave is often recommended but it gives me cystic acne and didn't seem to really soothe my skin.

I'd say this isn't the thread for you then, based on the above. So perhaps just ignore rather than talking down to women who do want to make the best of what they have.

I agree with all this! Well said. Emptying the sea with a thimble more like. I am in my 50s and never doing anything. Hopefully I age like my mum who looks great to me.

Ok I apologise for my post. I see OP doesnt want aging gracefully responses. Sorry. But this would do better in S and B.
