@LittlePickleHead what is your friend’s book please? I would love to read something similar to the salt path that isn’t made up BS!

It's this https://www.telegraph.co.uk/books/non-fiction/review-stone-lands-fiona-robertson/

I know I'm biased but she is a beautiful writer and it's an uplifting read despite the sad background

EsmaCannonball · 08/07/2025 17:38

Marina Hyde was suggesting the only reputation-salvaging way for Penguin to proceed was to donate all profits from Raynor Winn books to good causes.

That's just Google being Google. It is hopeless with identifying images of people. A profile page on LinkedIn will include photos of others, but Google regularly fails to differentiate and tags them all as being of the profile owner. If you take the photo of the woman in a green dress, for example, she is Tara Schmidlen, Clinical Content Lead at Nest Genomics. If you do a Google image search for her, you will get a number of images of people. Most of them are her or could be her, but one is a man and at least one of the women is definitely not her.

Yes, I realise that now. Google has taken images from of people who co- authored papers with her. Stupid Google!

However her name and image have been used on that fake post on Instagram, which is clearly a crisis management company trying new narratives.

Omg have I inadvertently unearthed a ringer?! I think I might have to make a tiktok and rebrand myself as an Internet sleuth! I really re- posted that in good faith as I thought it had some fair points but blimey. The salty twists and turns...

The Google images are just Google grabbing images from people who have co-authored medical papers from her.

But I reckon her name and image have been used by a crisis management company for a post to try a new narrative.

Because she is clearly a medical professional, she's not going to post drivel like that.

what did the LinkedIn statement from James walker say ? I can’t find it …
I saw the film a few weeks ago and it was bad… so I’m so hooked on this scandal ! If it’s a lie about his illness that is so incredibly awful … 18 years and he’s fine and ran a marathon in 2023..? I ain’t no doctor butttt…. ?

The images are linked a few times in here. I don’t think he said he ran a marathon however.

That's the book Angela Harding suggested to everyone in her "Forget The Salt Path" story.

Interesting Chloe says there’s no more coming

based on what’s been published I think they can ride out the health side of it

LivelyCat · 08/07/2025 17:49

I was wondering if the artist had to approve the artwork that the Observer featured for the article? Interesting if so.

That they're pathalogical liars who've left a trail of destruction behind them.

I've seen a credit to her somewhere, so yes as she'll hold the copyright.

Yeah, but for how long?

He's already been terminally ill for 18 years.

I think this too @DiamondThrone , I would be very surprised indeed if it was a genuine comment by this woman.

Oh where does she say that? I’m not on X so can’t see any updates there.

I thought there would be, as her colleague (can’t remember her name) wrote a post on X - mentioned in the first thread on this - saying there was more to come on the story later this week. I find it strange that she’s now said there are no more stories.

Maybe their lawyers have advised them not to publish anything further? If so, I wonder why.

Bruisername · 08/07/2025 17:55

Maybe they need more research time and lawyers

another poster mentioned she said it in an interview

It was her colleague on Insta, and it was me that posted, but I think I might have misinterpreted what she said as she mentioned "More this week" and I took that to mean more than the articles, but I think she may have been referring to them.

My take on the more to come stuff was going to be about Moth and his illness. I wonder if they've been legally advised to step back because digging into people's medical records is a very delicate ethical line to tread.

Sorry for being dense but referring to who?

A bit off topic but for all of us with neuro conditions - in my more cruel moments sometimes I think I have come up with a new use for Elon Musk's otherwise quite scary sounding neurolink brain chip thing.

It would never work in practice and is not all ethical but...

I call it the Doctozap.

A means by which for a very limited period of time obviously you could beam your symptoms into the health professional's own body and just say, "Feels like that."

For purely diagnostic purposes only and not because you're completely fed up of explaining for the millionth time.

For them only to say, "And is that painful?"

Pure fantasy of course. And very nasty of me. And this is just a bit of dark humour.

I have often fantasised with that too! To show professionals and opinionated people what it feels to have anemia, migraine or hypermesis gravidarum.

I loved this one:
A book about a walk which ascends an estimated four Everests in total should surely mention the terrain. As in the thing you swear at on walks. But Winn and Moth glide along the coast as if it were the travelator at Luton Airport while fuelled only by Pot Noodles.

In the dim and distant past I was a serious walker (now disabled - the top of the drive is challenging!). And it is so very true. You may not always talk about the walk, but you never forget how hard it is either. I recall my best friend asking me about the Inca Trail and whether it was worth it. I told her yes. After she did it she asked me why I hadn't said how bloody hard it was. I told her that if I had she would never have done it, I was so very glad I did, but if I ever returned to Machhu Piccu, I would be getting the train/bus because i was never doing it again!

Goa perhaps

What do you have against Goa? Nice place, nice people.

Remind me, which states voted for Trump? They are (a) full of gullible people and (b) seem to like snake oil salespeople

No, I think she was referring to the three articles on Sunday, rather than any more coming.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 08/07/2025 18:18

Wonder if “Moth” claimed PIP? Not here to start a controversy but did he? I bet he did.

faffadoodledo · 08/07/2025 18:22

The Daily Mash are spot on. Me and DH are fit as fleas and used to the coast path. But that stretch from Hartland to Port Isaac nearly broke us. And we weren’t carrying tents!
some bits are a doddle (anything between Praa Sands and Penzance for example). But those easy stretches are obliterated by the punishing ones!
