Farmers don’t dig holes for dead sheep. If in the Welsh hills the farmer leaves the carcass for nature to deal with or like us we call the knacker to take it away to be disposed of. It certainly doesn’t go for pet food 😳

But were they farmers? People bury deceased pets in the garden.

I'm finding the LinkedIn comments from James (and Nikki) Walker really interesting. I don't see why people with proper jobs, lives etc would do so about their relatives unless there was a world of pain as a back story.

Edited

Or they needed to distance themselves because the relationship, however tenuous, is known? Don't know much about the company they work for, but my friends husband works for a company on defence contracts, and they have to be very careful about who they associate with or where they travel. In particualr, you may be open to blackmail if you keep things secret. So it's maybe one of those things that the employer knows about but they haven't needed to be open about until it became public.

Thistooshallpsss · 07/07/2025 17:01

The benefit incomes could have come from working tax credits now abolished which was paid by HMRC and no signing on and balanced at the end of each tax year so very possible.

The worst thing imv is stealing tens of thousands from her boss which is why sally disappeared with a new name in the first place - and hasn’t repaid it. They didn’t know she was now Raynor Winn -I hope they get it back.

He talks about the "trail of destruction" they left behind them, so that indicates pretty awful things that the family has had to deal with.

They've obviously decided to post something publicly which I doubt they would if Tim and Sally hadn't caused a lot of distress.

Imagine the potential AIBUs....

We buried our old cat in the garden but with beloved sheep horses and cows? Where would it end?

They did repay it. That's why they (I think) strong armed a distant relative into giving them a loan. It was so she could escape criminal charges.

That does not take anything away from the Hemmings who contacted the police, and who had to go through the books of their business to find her criminality.

I thought it was repaid and that was why they got the loan from the relative and why the boss agreed to drop the police prosecution.

Maybe love is and their fantasy is real becasue they believe it so “We walked, we talked, and we loved. And that was enough.” .....

But the walk was probably lie. And who knows if they’re really in love or in convenience.

She did repay it. That's the whole beginning of them losing their home. It says clearly in the article!

Agreed.... And of course the theft was over a series of years so the Hemmings were out of pocket for a long time

I think the problem is the gap between "unwise goodhearted investment that came back to bite us" (Saltpath official version) and "embezzling 10's of 1000's from employer and borrowing money to pay it off to avoid prison and not being able to repay it" (what now appears to be the truth)

This is worth bearing in mind.

The Hemmings, over a number of years, did not have the income from their business that they would otherwise have done.

That meant they missed out on possible opportunities, and they had less to spend on themselves.

As it was, by the end he didn't have enough money to pay staff wages.

Bonnie and Clyde but with no guns, bank robberies but lots of walking and crap tents. But now a major motion picture. If the real story gets to be written and dramatized then I will definately watch that !

Not Bonnie and Clyde, but… (Steal your) Money and Stride? Not great, but the best I could come up with for now!

Me neither. The only thing I can think of is that it’s taken a long time for the claims to be reported and then to be proved.

DisappointedReader · 07/07/2025 17:21

Sally Walker as Raynor Winn was meant to be the guest tutor at two of Arvon's residential non-fiction writing courses in August and September. I understand that she has now been replaced. I don't know whether this was a decision by Arvon or whether she has withdrawn.

As we already know, the PSPA charity has parted ways with the family and she has withdrawn from touring Saltlines in July and August with Gigspanner Big Band. There is another joint project with the band for next year. I wonder what will happen about the October release of her fourth book On Winter Hill. Creative wellness retreats with her are in the pipeline for Spring next year, a project called Zefyrn.

Then of course there is the ongoing publicity for the film and the potential releases in other countries.

I would guess because the people involved didn't want the publicity.

They had been repaid, and they wanted to move on.

A burial mound?

I buried a sadly deceased fox, likely killed by poison, on a repurposed farm. I dug a hole two feet deep, and when we had finished, I spoke a quiet incantation. It was a sad and touching moment one that stirred a deep sense of connection to the fragile veil of mortality we so often skate across in our own brief lives.

Can I have a book deal ? I have as yet not ripped anyone off nor faked an illness - hopefully that won't be an impediment. Will walk if necessary but not too far and optionals pubs on the way would be a bonus. As would buses.

Not everyone knows what journalist to contact or how to persuade them there is a story worth listening to

Uricon2 · 07/07/2025 17:30

This is from the Penguin page about the forthcoming book 'On Winter Hill'

"After a turbulent year, Raynor Winn embarks on the Coast to Coast Walk in winter, unexpectedly alone. Despite 45 years of walking together, setbacks in her husband, Moth's, health have led him to see his decline as inevitable, which Raynor refuses to accept. Feeling trapped, she is drawn north, like a migratory bird, seeking the peace and hope that walking brings her. Navigating harsh weather and tangled emotions, Raynor reflects on the mountains they've climbed. Her journey becomes a meditation on our connection to the land and its power to help us remember, rebuild, and reclaim what is lost."

If the decline in his health is true (is anything true at this point?) I'd love to know what the set up is to look after him, because as a carer for my DH, I can't even get to the end of the road without planning, let alone take off for weeks "like a migratory bird".

ETA Sally/Raynor. I think the forthcoming year might be even more turbulent.
