New Jurassic Park movie

My grandson is 4 and loves all the Jurassic Park movies and is obsessed wirh dinosaurs. The movie is a 12A which means I can take him but just wondered if you would think it unreasonable if you saw a 4 year old at a 12 movie.

I don’t think anyone would care, or even likely notice his exact age so long as he sat still and watched the whole thing in silence. If he’s managed the other JW 12As without an issue at home and has been to a cinema before so knows what to expect then you’d probably be ok. My only concern would be that with the dark, louder volume and cinema atmosphere it would be much scarier than at home.

hulahooper2 · 03/07/2025 09:23

saw it yesterday, not suitable for a 4 year old , it’s not cutesy dinosaurs

TheSwarm · 03/07/2025 09:25

Legally you can take him.

All the Jurassic park films are pretty intense though, I wouldn't take a 4 year old to see one.

peanutbuttertoasty · 03/07/2025 09:25

Very inappropriate viewing for a 4yo

Hotcrossbunhero · 03/07/2025 09:26

My 4 year old loves Jurassic Park, but I’ll wait to watch it with him on tv at home. The added noise / size of everything at the cinema might be a bit much IMO.

DonnaSueWeloveyou · 03/07/2025 09:28

He’s a bit young - the intensity of the cinema with higher volume, bigger screen etc might be a bit much for him. If you get the DVD to watch at home you can always turn it off / down etc if it’s too scary.

Didntask · 03/07/2025 09:30

YANBU. My son has loved all things Dinosaur since he was tiny. He watched the BBC Walking with Dinosaurs (not cutesey) on repeat since he was 2. However, he's always been fine with loud/dark/scary things - i know plenty of his peers that aren't. You know your grandson - do you think he'd enjoy it?

Clearinguptheclutter · 03/07/2025 09:35

no way.
I’d watch at home though, supervised, once you can stream

these things are a lot more intense in a cinema

my kids are 10 and 12 and have seen them all on tv but I wouldnt take my (sensitive) 10 year old to see the latest in the cinema and only just ok about the 12 year old

notforonesecond · 03/07/2025 09:38

I’m taking my 7 and 8 year olds this weekend because I know they’ll be fine and enjoy it. I don’t think I’d take a 4yo, just because it’s all a bit more intense in a cinema situation than at home with the curtains open.

Every kids is different though, so it’s definitely a personal choice you get to make.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 03/07/2025 09:41

My child loved all things dinosaur and watched all the JP films when really young.

I'd take him if I were you, OP, if you're sure he won't be too disruptive to other viewers.

CurlsLDN · 03/07/2025 09:42

What do his parents think? It’s their decision.

for what it’s worth I agree with others, he doesn’t need to see it the minute it comes out, watch it at home later

curiouscat1987 · 03/07/2025 09:44

Unless hes already used to watching violent and bloody deaths on tv (in which case, why???), id say no, not suitable for a 4 year old. Jurassic park isnt really for dinosaur loving kids in the same way as jaws isnt for shark loving kids. He'd be better off with a documentary programme.

CountryQueen · 03/07/2025 09:46

Of course it’s not suitable. He’s 4

Viobioscore48 · 03/07/2025 09:48

My children would be absolutely terrified of this film. They are older. I would definitely say it's not appropriate but speak to the parents to gauge.

Eldermileniummam · 03/07/2025 09:50

I wouldn't worry what anyone else thinks but just consider whether it's suitable for your 4 year old. The trailer looked quite dark to me but if he's seen the other films then he might be okay. My youngest is 4 and I'm not sure I'd have him watching Jurassic Park but it depends on the individual child.

I agree with this. To me it’s a bit like showing them IT because it has a clown in it 🤡. Poor judgement IMO. I was terrified watching JP at 12, never mind 4. They might not seem scared but it’s busy wiring their nervous system.

Helpel · 03/07/2025 09:59

Me and my 9 year old watched the first one, she loved it. However, the newer ones are more intense and scary, I would t even let my 9 year old watch them, let alone a 4 year old. Just asking for nightmares!!

OneSpoonyGreyWasp · 03/07/2025 10:01

I wondered who was requesting these movies! The last few have been crap. I walked out of the cinema on one of them about 3 movies ago.

GasPanic · 03/07/2025 10:06

So if he loves all the rest of them he has watched them all ?

At 4 years old ?

This 4 year old has watched all six Jurassic franchise movies including 222 bloody, gory deaths, dinosaurs burning alive, severed arms and goats being fed to monsters. And "loves" them?

I call bullshit

TwinklyBird · 03/07/2025 13:11

My 6 year old loves all the Jurassic World films and Jaws.

He saw Dominon in the cinema, and I think he would have been 4 then. He’d seen all the other JP/JW films at 4. He wasn’t as keen as he was on the older films though because he didn’t feel there was enough dinosaurs in it 🤷‍♀️

We tested the water first by showing him YouTube clips, working up to some of the gorier scenes and he just wasn’t phased.

Every child is different (I absolutely wouldn’t take my 9 year old for example, he would hate it), and he is scared of some things which are way less scary - he runs screaming from Kiri and Lou on CBeebies.

When I chat to him he just seems to have an innate understanding of it not being real. He will talk about how the dinosaurs and the shark aren’t real and they are robots etc. He knows the people aren’t really hurt etc.

But if he sees blood/injury in real life he gets appropriately upset/worried.

Frenchyq25 · 03/07/2025 13:33

We went to see this last night...it's so not appropriate for a 4 year old. I'd say it's scarier and more gory than the other films.

Why would you risk showing someone so young this stuff though ?

What do you actually have to gain by it ?

If a young kid is unaffected by it then that's exactly the same as if they haven't seen it. If they are it could result in significant issues.

There is plenty of time when they are older to introduce them to this sort of stuff. It's not going to irreversibly harm their development by putting it off for a few years, surely.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 03/07/2025 14:25

I think a lot of children are exposed to TV and film content at very young ages. My children saw lots of films rated 15 or 18 when they were young because they had older siblings, shared bedrooms, one living room etc and just watched whatever was on. So if that happened to be something "scary" then so be it.

TheTreeByTheRoad · 03/07/2025 14:29

Took my 7 year old yesterday to see it. It has a few 'scary' moments but my DS was fine with them.

However, the film was just... lacking, boring even. Gutted, as I love the Jurassic park films.
