Does anyone really ever look at photos of friends and loved ones and notice things like double chins and whether or not they’re flattering? I certainly don’t. Much more likely they think- ah a lovely photo of my friend laughing!

Weird to assume they’re doing it vindictively, or that they see what you see. Everyone is critical of pics of themselves!

hororumandbrandy · 02/07/2025 19:16

I had a friend like this. Every time she posted a pic with me in, I made her take it down. She doesn’t do it any more….

PersephonePomegranate · 02/07/2025 19:17

Your friends are just posting memories of a fun time, maybe they don't know you're so vain.

Growlybear83 · 02/07/2025 19:20

I would be very angry too and would ask for the photos to be removed. I have never uploaded a photo of me, my husband, or my daughter to any website and I have no wish for other people to share pictures which include me, especially without my permission. When we got our first computer my husband and I decided that we wanted to have as little presence on the internet as possible and have managed this quite well. There are no hits whatsoever if you search for his name and only two for me. I think it’s a real invasion of privacy to publish someone’s name or photo on the internet.

Exactly. Most of the time when I take a picture of my (18year old) daughter she wants to vet it before I post it anywhere. She deletes what appear to me to be perfectly nice normal pictures of her. People are way more critical generally of photos of themselves than of other people. So it's highly likely the friends don't think it's an awful photo of you and you are being over sensitive.

Growlybear83 · 02/07/2025 19:21

I meant to say that the reason I don’t want photos of myself online has nothing to do with vanity - I don’t care how good or bad I look in a photo, I just don’t want any images or information about me published online.

Nearly50omg · 02/07/2025 19:38

Start taking horrible photos of them and putting them all online and see how they like it 😁

Birdh0use · 02/07/2025 19:47

Maybe they is just well jealous

Yeah because that's the only reason someone might not want photos publishing

I’m sooo sick of everyone constantly taking photos. It’s tedious.

I've got a friend who films everything!
We can be going for a nice country walks Nd 2 of us will be having a conversation and suddenly realise she's filming us and then she posts it on social media!
I'd be happy if every camera phone was banned!
It's pointless, annoying and spoils experiences

ChocolateGanache · 02/07/2025 19:55

CoralOP · 02/07/2025 18:34

I feel you, my sister posted a very unflattering picture of me in a bikini on Facebook, I couldn't beleive it.
She couldn't understand what my problem was, I barely share anything on Facebook so certainly wouldn't put something like that on!
People are just baffling x

What is WRONG with people?!

This. It’s almost impossible to secure any picture of my group of friends together (not even to post anywhere, just to have!) because they each have to be reviewed and I can guarantee that out of 6 Women at least one will demand it’s deleted from whoever’s phone it’s on, despite my thinking they all look perfectly nice in it. I often don’t like pictures of myself either but I don’t think anyone else is analysing the way my right eyelid or my left arm looks in a group photo so I don’t really care if they’re posted.

Looneytune253 · 02/07/2025 20:01

To be fair, I don't know your exact circumstances but we have a friend in our friend group who is obsessed with filters (to the point she doesn't look like her actual self in them) and if we take any photos she absolutely despises any of herself and doesn't want them online. Obv we respect her wishes but it does get tiring and we want to share pics sometimes even just with each other without her complaining. Tempted to start just cropping her out of group pics

CheeseWisely · 02/07/2025 20:02

@JG24 Maybe we have the same friend! She did it all the time until she was told fairly sharply on a girls weekend away to put her bloody phone down and engage with us instead of filming everything, as if she was going to actually experience the weekend at a later date through the videos.

I didn't say anything about not getting it, I just don't care that much 🤔🤔🤔

My friends already know what I look like, which includes knowing that ridiculously stylised and posed photographs aren't what I really look like of I were silly enough to do that kind of thing. I have plenty of photos i love that aren't particularly flattering, but really capture a moment.

RefreshingMist · 02/07/2025 20:20

Yanbu.
I judge people who very clearly pick the most flattering photos of themselves without caring how their friends look.

PersephonePomegranate · 02/07/2025 20:22

Idontjetwashthefucker · 02/07/2025 19:49

Yeah becasue the OP is objecting to 'shit photos', so yes, in this instance I would infer that's the issue!

WorcsEdu · 02/07/2025 20:28

Totally sympathise. When I got married 11 years ago both my husband’s siblings were married within 6 months of us (we were engaged first and married just under a year later - so that’s a whole other story)!

MIL hung up a big 3 picture frame with a professional photo of each wedding. For ours, I was smack in the centre (as the bride!) with my eyes closed. To this day, I can’t imagine how you could buy a photo from a professional photographer at a person’s wedding in which the bride has her eyes closed. I hated staring at it!!

That said, my husband’s siblings are both divorced since then so that picture frame has come down and there’s no wedding photos at all 😂

Sladuf · 02/07/2025 20:32

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 02/07/2025 18:28

i don’t get the need to post photos on the internet full stop

Hear, hear! I used to get noise from friends about the lack of photos on my Facebook profile. One was ridiculously inquisitive about why at a house party once and wouldn’t accept it was purely because I just wasn’t interested. Ended up deactivating Facebook not long afterwards. Good riddance!

OP, YANBU. Your friends should be checking you’re ok having photos taken. They’re being rude. Some people seem to be unable to not get the phone out to take photos. It is tedious. The number of times I’ve seen people idiots sat in the jacuzzi at the leisure club I go to and taking selfies is unreal. There are routinely ignored signs saying no mobile phones or cameras on poolside too.

tobee · 02/07/2025 20:43

It's a shame that there isn't a facility to delete the photos from another account. At least I don't think there is?

BoredZelda · 02/07/2025 20:53

What happened when you asked them to take them down?
