SmellyNelliey · 01/07/2025 21:33

Just that really, ive 2 dogs and recently the neighbours have put a wooden bench near my fence which is making my frenchie bark.( i do bring him in) but today DH has opened the door and neighbour is hanging over my fence feeding my dogs.my frenchie has lots of allergies and is strictly raw fed. Our other dog is 11years old and on senior food.
We dont actually get on with these neighbours and haven't for the 8 years being here!
YANBU - Should I report this ?

YABU - Or am I over reacting?

Report to who? Just tell them to stop and explain why.

potatosconelover · 01/07/2025 21:35

Just tell her the dogs can’t eat certain things because it will make them sick. She likes dogs enough to feed them, she should hopefully get it.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 01/07/2025 21:51

Feeding them or giving treats? Feeding them is weird so just tell them about the strict diet. If treats then you can still tell them but it’s less weird.

out of interest who might you report it to?

YANBU - Should I report this

Who do you think would be remotely interested??

50Balesofgrey · 01/07/2025 21:59

Maybe they are trying to make friends to stop it barking at them so they can enjoy their garden.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 01/07/2025 22:01

If they dont like you or the barking, I'd be more concerned with what they are feeding them

Tessasanderson · 02/07/2025 14:24

Two sides to every disagreement.

You have already said your dog barks. The fact they have a bench near your fence means nothing. Its in their garden. You need to control your dog better.
Also, the fact you said your DH has opened the door and caught them feeding your dogs........well if you made the effort to be out with your dogs when they were out, this wouldnt have a chance of happening.

Finally, the neighbour, as others have said may be making an attempt to settle your dog for you by giving treats when they are there so it stops barking. Seems a reasonable assumption.

Only person who should be reporting is the neighbour about lack of control on your dog barking.

I say this as a dog lover and owner of two dogs who are allowed out in the garden supervised and only ever allowed to bark in the garden if playing with a family member or they are told to get in the house immediately

Doggymummar · 02/07/2025 14:28

My neighbour shouted at me as he saw his cat jump through my window. I was gobsmacked and didn't know what to say. Keep your effing cat under control comes to mind.

irrelevantdaughter · 02/07/2025 14:29

OMG. What did the police say?

Flopsythebunny · 02/07/2025 14:32

"report them" 😂
Train your dogs not to bark!!!

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 02/07/2025 14:33

Sounds like they're fed up with your dogs barking and are giving them treats to try and shut them up.

Drew79 · 02/07/2025 14:34

I've never understood the (selfish) human obsession of feeding animals, wild or pets, when they don't need feeding.

Give them a bollocking

ShamrockShenanigans · 02/07/2025 14:36

Report it to who?

Don't be ridiculous.

Whether you talk them or not, just tell them your dogs are on special diets and ask them not to feed them again.

Yeahofcourse · 02/07/2025 14:46

You are not being unreasonable to not want them to feed your dogs - even if they didn’t have any special food issues you shouldn’t feed someone else’s animal without their permission.

You are unreasonable for wanting to report them. No one will take that seriously unless they are trying to feed them something poisoned and are intentionally trying to harm the dogs.

If they are trying to befriend your dogs to stop them barking (not unreasonable, that is highly annoying) then give them a little of each dog’s food (perhaps in a tub with a photo of the dog stuck to the outside so they know which is which) so they can make friends without risking the health of either dog.

Let me just clear somethings up
Neighbour was obviously stood on something as the fence is 6ft.
I wasn't going to report to the police. Hes in a housing association house so I would of reported to them.
There is a back story with Neighbour like peeing on my garden gate, calling my DH racist names. So I was concerned,im 37 weeks pregnant so maybe just my hormones.
Dogs are fine just a upset belly for my frenchie so will leave it.

Dog allergies can be serious so I wouldn’t just leave it.

But equally I would be training my dogs not to bark at them. They may well be feeding them to convince the dog they’re nice so it stops barking - no one wants a yappy bastard next door mouthing off every time they sit in their garden.

ShamrockShenanigans · 02/07/2025 16:36

Well the first thing the HA would do would be to ask you if you've told them to stop.

The second thing they may bother to do is to contact your neighbour and tell them to stop.

Although without proof, it's very doubtful.

Ah, the inevitable drip feed when the responses aren’t to the OP’s liking.

MauriceTheMussel · 02/07/2025 16:39

I’d be terrified they’re poisoning your dog if there’s a history of animosity

How does your dog know there’s a bench there if the fence is 6ft ? Is it visible through the fence or is it that they sit and talk on the bench?

SmellyNelliey · 02/07/2025 16:44

They sit and talk at the bench which there entiledto do ,this is something new so just think dog is curious tbh.

Yes, but without any context whatsoever.

WhereIsMyJumper · 02/07/2025 16:51

Just…. Talk to them??

LadyGrillingSole · 02/07/2025 16:57

I'm a little worried about a French Bulldog being outside in this heat, actually 🙁
