Hi all ! I’m currently 17st the heaviest I’ve ever been im between 5’6-5’7 and need to start loosing weight I want to loose 1-2 stone by October 1st (this doesn’t mean my journey will end there it’s just a target)
im constantly down and depressed over my body
last year I was just on 14 st and since being in a relationship have gained 3 stone my partner is a feeder he loves food and constantly encourages me to eat with him which I don’t say no to because I’m to ashamed to begin explaining why
at this moment in time I can’t afford to go gym so home work outs , meal ideas will help
I try to not eat to unhealthy however I’m a sucker for crisps 😂 I used to binge eat and slowly find my self falling back into those habbits and I’m not sure how to fix it any advice is deeply appreciated TIA x

You’d be a good candidate for mounjaro. The money you’d saving by not buying loads of food and crisps will pay for it.

susiedaisy1912 · 01/07/2025 17:45

Mounjaro has been the only thing that has worked consistently for me.

I’m not sure if this is a sarcastic comment. However I don’t plan on starting mj if I believe I’m at the stage where I can loose the weight myself .

This is not sarcasm. This is what happens.

How else do you plan to lose the weight?

BrendaBleddynsBeachBall · 01/07/2025 17:55

I don’t understand why you’re ashamed to explain to your partner that you won’t be eating with him because you’re conscious of your weight gain, and want to start making healthier choices. Why would that be an issue?

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/07/2025 17:58

I’ve done well with keto. But I don’t understand you thinking PP was sarcastic about WLI. Keto and WLI essentially work the same way, reducing food noise. If you’re feeling down and depressed and not sure how to fix it, WLI are one way.

If you want just a generic answer, eat less, in a calorie deficit and move more. But the eating less is the one that will work.

AutumnLeaves91 · 01/07/2025 18:00

Hey @ThisVividGreenEagle sorry this isn’t really advice but I’m right there with you. I’m currently 9 months PP and the biggest I’ve ever been. I have no stamina whatsoever but I’m considering giving the couch to 5k another go once I’ve got some trainers!

As a side note, sorry for the replies to this so far, bit of a weird vibe. I personally will not be using mounjaro and think it’s for a select few - one friend using it has even had her pancreas removed because it fucked with her pancreas levels! Not sure why that’s the go to solution advised here. I’ve heard that a calorie deficit is the fundamental key to weight loss, with exercise being a plus - I love carbs and chocolate too much lol so need to get thinking!

Haha the comments have been weird especially when just seeking advice to make positive changes I don’t want to use mj due to wanting to try do it on my own and due to side effects that have been popping around lately Couch to 5k sounds good tho wishing us both luck!x

Definitely wouldn’t be an issue I suppose I’m just to insecure to say it out loud to someone

You can’t run away from a bad diet. I do exercise/run, but it is only good for weight loss in that running is harder when you’re overweight so it’s motivating. You lose weight in the kitchen and tone in the gym.

If you plan to lose changing your diet, you just need to count calories and not cheat. You will have to have a conversation with your BF.

littlemousebigcheese · 01/07/2025 18:08

Sorry to echo but mounjaro literally changed my life. I lost 6.5 stone and am like a different person. Nothing else worked. Of course I’m now terrified of putting weight back on now I’m no longer on the injections but it’s easier to maintain than lose I think. No diet came close to mounjaro as I was just hungry and thinking about food 24/7

I'd imagine the same way people managed to lose weight for centuries prior to weight jabs, lower calorie intake and increased activity.

Rather than paying for weight loss jabs like the lazy way, just count calories. Cut down on snacks & aim for 15-20k steps a day.

Hi op, focus on snacking on things that are high protein. You want to increase fiber and protein, fruit and veg and decrease junk foods.

Work out your TDEE, the James Smith calculator on his websites good. Download my fitness pal and track everything meticulously that you eat it. Increase water intake.

Weigh in the morning when you get up each day and then work out the average each week. Weighing once a week can often be disheartening if you happen to weigh a day your weights naturally fluctuate up due to fluid retention, possibly from salt intake, hormones or needing the toilet.

Finally try increase activity. Even if it's just climbing the stairs at work instead of the lift, go a walk in the evenings etc.

dragonfliesanddandelions · 01/07/2025 18:13

When do you tend to binge? I tend to eat healthy meals but late night snacks are my downfall so I made it a rule that I don't eat after dinner. It was hard at first but I'm used to it now. I usually have a herbal tea after putting the kids to bed but no food. Keeping a food diary or using an app like Nutracheck is a good idea as it's easy to underestimate how much you are eating if you don't keep track.

Couch to 5k is a good idea, or just getting out for a brisk walk each day if you don't fancy running. Try to aim for a set time so it becomes habit. I'd also incorporate some strength training. I really rate Caroline Girvan. She is badass and lifts impossibly heavy weights but don't let that put you off. If you get her app (CGX) there is a program for beginners which is brilliant. Start with light weights and you will soon see progress. You do need to pay for the app but you can do a two week free trial to see if it suits you. Or just look for her workouts on YouTube.

‘Lazy way’? What a charmer you are. I’ve not used them but I don’t think they are lazy.

I heard about a really interesting study. They gave skinny people and fat people fat. GLP-1 spike in both groups. They gave them carbs, spike ONLY in skinny people. Which means the skinny people feel full when they eat everything. The fat people don’t. They still feel hungry after carbs. So the ‘willpower’ we hear so much about, it’s an illusion. The skinny people feel full, needing no willpower.

I know it makes smug people happy to think fatties are just lazy, unmotivated arseholes. It’s a tempting place to live, in a warm glow of your own superiority. Doesn’t really help people with weight loss though, because it’s entirely false. Eating differently, reducing carbs, understanding appetite, understanding the place of exercise, all help.
