Not enjoying this heat are you?

Usually I love the sun / heat.. get out in it loads, get tanned easy, never need a fan at the house ect ect but this year I’m struggling with the heat massively! Not enjoying it feeling way too hot, I can hardly sit outside! I started taking sertraline last august could it be this? Or is perimenopause to blame? Or is it just so muggy atm I’m not only one finding it unbearable? Or can you just change and no longer enjoy it 😅I hate cold weather so I can’t also be a moaner about the heat which I’ve always loved 😂😂 (I know this is a no worry worry just curious for answers)

The sun is lovely. I’m in Essex, and it has been great to see people laying on their back in the park reading a book, or sitting outside cafes. But nice as it is, this is too warm. The U.K. just isn’t suited to heat. It’s too small, too overcrowded and too densely populated. The houses are jammed on top of one another, and the traffic is awful. My perfect weather is blue sky, sunshine and the air chilly enough for a jumper. Or a still Autumn day, with blue sky and the air cold enough to see your breath (plus fallen leaves and the smell of bonfires).

Have you ever been to Singapore? It’s warm there, and humid. Year round.

Same here; I’d live somewhere this warm if I could.

I wouldn’t be able to take my DP though, the whinging about the heat would drive me insane.

We’re going to Greece in August and yesterday dh clocked it’s likely to be 40 degrees. We want to visit an historic area one day but the rest of the week we’ll be in the sea, nice and cool. I will concede that 43 degrees walking round Paris, which made our fingers swell up, was a bit too hot 🥵 but 28/29, that’s just a beautiful day.

I bloody hate it.
I do not like heat.
Can not wait for winter time and all the weather MN hates.
Wind frost fog rain rougher the better huge storms thunder lightning crashing and banging love it.

I can’t stand it. Flies everywhere, sweat pouring off me, disgustingly hot commute, brain fog and feel I can’t breathe. I feel like I’m being slowly smothered. Roll on Wednesday when the temperature drops 10C.

JohnTheRevelator · 30/06/2025 21:13

Antidepressants can make you more sensitive to heat,so I am reliably informed.

Kazzybingbong · 30/06/2025 21:16

I’m the same, I love the heat and never used to sweat but since taking Sertraline for the last few years, I’ve found it harder to cope with. Bought a neck fan off Amazon and it’s pretty good! I can cook without using sweat as a seasoning now.

troppibambini6 · 30/06/2025 21:18

I love it. But I can understand why others don’t. We get so little of it I just love feeling warm, living it vests and shorts…. I’m a total beach bum and would love to live by the sea.

susiedaisy1912 · 30/06/2025 21:21

I want to love the summer but as a chronic migraine sufferer and on sertraline I just feel awful in this heat. I can’t wait for it to be over.

Most mumsnetters like winter Confused
They like festering snuggling under a cosy blanket. They have low heating bills because they never put the heating on. They don't have to commute to work on dark busy roads in bad weather and have excellent eyesight so low light levels don't affect them.

I have massive fans blowing on high both in the sitting room, and in bed. There the only thing that makes it bearable, and I'm very worried as I'm going away tomorrow for a couple of nights and staying in an old inn which I very much doubt has air con. Wondering if I would look peculiar if I rocked up with one of my huge, very non-portable fans...

Moving soon and will be making air con a priority, even if just in the bedroom. I'm peri and find nights very hard, and I doubt they're going to improve as menopause advances!

Rainbow1612 · 30/06/2025 21:54

I'm not a fan of anything over 24 really

In 2022 when it got to 40 here I was 7 months pregnant. Hell on earth!

I really feel for pregnant ladies!

Take a tip from someone who had a horrendous menopause - fill a hot water bottle with cold water and ice cubes - take it to bed with you.

I do feel for pregnant ladies... but I also look like one, despite eating just one apple and one corned beef sammich today! Does anyone else get a really bloated gut in this weather?

(Ten years past meno, so no, I'm not)...

🥵

And I second @Shetlands ' tip - cold hot water bottle kept in the freezer by day, in bed with me by night...

And DH in another room entirely... 🤨

TheFairyCaravan · 30/06/2025 22:19

I like the heat but it’s made me feel unwell today.

I’m currently lying on top of the bed, with a fan blowing on me, a gel ice pack beside each hip and one on the back of my neck. I’ve banished DH to the spare room because he’s a freak of nature and has to sleep with a duvet pulled right over his head regardless of the weather and I can’t cope with that atm,

When we bought this house we thought we were on to a winner because it is so well insulated. It’s great in the winter, not so much in a heatwave . .
