So in the last 6 months - with me WFH half the time, DS at home and also at Uni, in a flat, we've used:

600 kWh electricity
4500 kWh gas - including 1500 kWh of that in January.

TheClockThatNeverStop · 30/06/2025 21:29

Between 3 to 4kwh a day electricity and 0.4m3 a day gas 😁
Do I get a medal 😁

My electricity usage was higher in May than yours in the last 6 months 😬. 5 of us in a 5 bed house and 2 electric cars though.

0.4 m cubed you say.....

That's only 4 kWh ...which seems very very low.

@Katemax82yes £20 on each a month. We dont watch tv we watch programs on our phones, we dont use big lights at night only lamps. We both have a 5 minute shower in the evening and I use a slow cooker or air fryer for most meals. As it’s only us two I only need to do two loads of washing a week and don’t own a dish washer

But the electricity standing charge on its own is about £20 pm, gas about £10.

5kwh according to my bill. Yeah we are not even trying, it's just low. Without heating of course. Just 2 showers, 1x washing up, 1x day cooking.

greengreengrass3 · 30/06/2025 21:51

Ours is £190 DD, that’s for a 3 bed detached, 2 adults, I WFH and refused to ever be cold.
so I’d say that’s high

Without heating?

So that's 5kWh a day - which is about 1825 kWh a year on gas?

The average household consumption is 11,500 kWh in gas.

So that seems very very low gas usage? Unless you don't use gas or electric to heat your house....

NotMeNoNo · 30/06/2025 21:57

The biggest draw on electricity is any appliance that heats things up - electric shower, room heaters, washing machine, immersion heater. Gas is generally mostly heating during the winter. Outside lights may have a 500W bulb in if they are old. Either you have some appliance using more than you expected (or you did during the winter and are compensating it), or your bill /meter is wrong. You need to look at your bills and usage carefully so you can see where/when the costs built up.

Ours is only £210 per month and that's a badly insulated detached house with 4 people.

Well this month it is without heating. With heating it's obviously more, that's why I said without heating.

Sorry - I thought you were quoting your average usage over the year!!

Sorry. I should have made it clear that I am too lazy to look beyond June statement😂

Ipperdipperdation · 30/06/2025 22:04

We previously had bills like this but discovered our (cowboy) builders had turned our immersion heater on 24/7 when we weren't even aware we had one. It was on for 2 years before we got to the bottom of it as there was some dodgy wiring linking it into a plug socket that was being used for a water pump! Just in case you have an immersion heater you weren't aware of!

cakeorwine · 30/06/2025 21:26

Does nobody know their usage in kWh!!!

It doesn’t look like many do!

Our gas is circa 8,000 kwh a year (depending on what the winter is like) and electric was around 2,900. However this year we have has solar installed and got a PHEV, so who knows how that will pan out.
