My severely autistic 21 year old son has been taken into a residential care placement. He now has a studio flat, a garden and a job socialising therapy animals which means that he gets £30 a week extra money. I am so happy for him and very proud.

I start my new job on Monday day. I’m a little bit scared but a bigger bit excited- I’ve been unemployed for almost a year but I think/hope/believe this job was worth holding out for. It’s at a foundation that helps pre-schoolers get a better start in life.

Also, my bestie is pregnant at 43, will be 44 by the time the baby is born. She just never met the right partner and then early last year she did and it just all seems to be working out (at breakneck speed). She found out yesterday it will be a little girl.

Sending compassion, hugs and positive vibes to anyone who needs it today or any day.

(and secretly hoping our garden hedgehog shows off some babies one day 🦔 😊)

Good luck with the new job I’m sure you will be great :)

My DS who at primary was considered to be academically challenged and struggled in early years at high school is tonight getting dressed in white tie to attend his College May Ball at Cambridge 😍

I found out that my lovely, kind friend is pregnant. She's mid 30's and met someone last year after being single for so long. I cried when she told me. She's been very career driven but she's always wanted a family. I'm so excited for her.

I sat the last written paper of my med school finals today at the not-insignificant age of 50!

Wonderful! In a similar vein, my daughter attended hers at Jesus college on Monday, after having to take a year out of A-levels due to a diagnosis of Bipolar disorder. I’m in awe of her.

My good news story is of the two young bears, brother and sister Mish and Lucy, who escaped from their enclosure at the wildlife park in Devon and headed straight to the unlocked food store where earlier that day a week's worth of food had been delivered. They devoured most of the delivery - including the honey - before calmly making their way back to their enclosure and promptly falling asleep. Visitors had been quickly led into a secure building and an armed team was on standby if the worst came to the worst, but the bears were only interested in the food. Heartwarming and hilarious. 😂

Police called as two young bears escape from wildlife enclosure in Devon - and devour honey

Police attended the scene "in line with standard protocol" - and an investigation has been launched into how the four-year-olds managed to escape in the first place.

I’m looking forward to a calmer next year. Just made a clean break from a long-time kinda couple group… 7 of us , we used to see regularly—friends of my husband's originally, through work. It’s been building for a while: constant gossip, low-key toxic vibes, always unloading on others but never really listening. I realised it was starting to take a toll—not just on me, but on him too. The other couple we are close with also hate it, so maybe it will help them say how they feel also.
He’s finally admitted he’s struggled with their behaviour for a while but didn’t want to rock the boat. Classic “if they do it with you, they’ll do it to you” situation. I fronted the decision and he’s relieved, honestly. Already feel lighter. Sometimes the best good news is just choosing calm over chaos.

We also get a hedgehog visitor, so now hopeful there might be hoglets soon!

InMySpareTime · 25/06/2025 20:15

DD and DS have both signed contracts for their first solo rentals (well, with their partners but first not-flatmate property).
Our house is full of boxes for the next few weeks, but DS moves in a couple of weeks and DD a week later.
Having all the space back will be lovely, but knowing the DCs are settling into nice grownup flats of their own is priceless.

My mother had an operation today and, thanks to antiobiotics, she will survive.

Antibiotics for the win 🏆

SusanSHelit · 25/06/2025 20:25

I'm in the middle of loosing weight and the dress I want to wear to my cousins wedding in August that didn't do up a couple of weeks ago did up today! It's still a bit too tight but I feel like that means it will fit perfectly by August.

I was out out for the first time in almost a year on Friday night, and ended up with a bunch of who I thought were strangers but who I knew vaguely ten years ago. Really clicked with one of them and went for coffee with him today. Had great conversation and he's coming to mine next week to raid my Disney+ with me 😁

My friends lovely son with diagnosed asd, who is really struggling in mainstream setting, got his special school place at tribunal. The judge apparently said the L.A was being ridiculous and the whole thing was over in under an hour, so she is understandably feeling very vindicated. Smaller setting and more specialist support, so hopefully he will thrive now. I certainly hope so. He's a great kid.

So some things are looking up
