I am an over thinker and someone said to me it’s “a bit close” to the conflict.

Travelling to Antalya.

Thoughts?

TaffetaPhrases · 24/06/2025 11:33

Nope. But we changed plans because of the hyperinflation

Birdwordie · 24/06/2025 11:33

I also am going to Antalya this year and have the same thoughts as you! So will be keep watching but have no advice, sorry OP

Shoxfordian · 24/06/2025 11:43

Its still hundreds of miles from conflict, it'll be fine

Maddy70 · 24/06/2025 11:53

It's fine and as safe as any other holiday destination

Can you elaborate please?

I’m in Alayna at the moment and it is fine (also very hot)

notsobloodygrear · 24/06/2025 12:43

Yep..going for three weeks in August and cant wait .Wouldnt consider cancelling until government or travel company's advised against travel .Its a massive country and the tourist areas are well away from Syria.
We were there once when there was a military coup and carried on our holiday oblivious until we got frantic text messages from home !

Puppylucky · 24/06/2025 12:46

Blimey I've just read about the hyperinflation crisis - it's at 75%! I thought our hotel was a bit expensive (we're going in August)

BlackCatGreyWhiskers · 24/06/2025 13:00

At the risk of being dense - how would hyperinflation impact me as a tourist? Genuine question.

I have an offer of a friend's apartment in dinim for next week. I am a bit anxious to book, but partner is all for it.

GoodbyeRosie · 24/06/2025 13:06

My friends say Turkey was full of Russian holiday makers when they went, as it is one of the only other countries that make them feel welcome.

Quite an intimidating atmosphere.

Cyprus would be a huge no no for me if I was thinking about the conflict. I couldn't enjoy a nice, peaceful holiday there anyway knowing what was going on just over the sea.

Shouldbeworkingnotreadingtalk · 24/06/2025 13:10

Here right now. And we are AI…. Thankfully… as nearly every bar wants a minimum of €5 for even a soft drink … €10-12 for an alcoholic one … starters are all €7+ and mains are €15/18 each. . Couldn’t believe the prices and made our AI resort look great value. Don’t know hyper inflation was a “thing”. Going off to google it now. From my sunbed ….

@Shouldbeworkingnotreadingtalk

Looks good! We are going AI too, sounds like UK prices. But obviously not the usual in Turkey. Is it full of Russians?

@GoodbyeRosie i read some of the reviews of the hotel we’re staying in complaining about Russians and poor etiquette. This is our third visit to Turkey, last time we stayed in a hotel that had alot of Germans in, there might have been Russians but I wouldn’t have known. Either way it didn’t impact our holiday.

Yorkshiremum80 · 24/06/2025 13:18

We went last year and I didn't notice anymore Russians than usual and we certainly had no issues. We are not going this year, we are going to Cyprus 🤣

StartleBright · 24/06/2025 13:19

No, due to restriction of freedom of speech and lip service paid to female rights.

moondip · 24/06/2025 13:20

The Turkish defense industry is incredibly strong regionally speaking (and is becoming so internationally speaking, too), and its growing air defense system (Steel Dome) has proven over the past week to be capable of detecting/deploying responses to potential threats (i.e., the Steel Dome was able to detect and deploy a reaction to entities up to 300 miles outside Turkish airspace that Turkey was not even the target of). Not to mention, Turkey has the second-largest standing army in NATO (after the US) AND is a geopolitically crucial power that is well-versed in balancing competing interests and allegiances. No side will be stupid enough to target Turkey.

RareMaker · 24/06/2025 13:22

Not this year thankfully

Well that was incredibly informative, thank you.

The American airbase is in the "safe" tourist area which is a bit concerning.

qotsa · 24/06/2025 13:43

I’ve been once. Last year. Was not a fan. Never again. Also as above poster said, the price of things 😮

We are with Tui Blue - so mainly Brits. (But the ones with plenty of money I’d guess, so not typical brits abroad .. ;-) … very few Russians in our hotel . . (sensatori in Side) … have a lovely time when you come xx.

Masmavi · 24/06/2025 14:11

You’re more at risk from earthquakes (or the shock at an overpriced cocktail) in Antalya

largeredformeplease · 25/06/2025 11:35

We have booked to go to Antalya second week in July. Booked it last year.

I think it will be fine.

pecanpiee · 25/06/2025 11:37

Turkey is absolutely fine. If you’d have said Iraq then maybe I would have had to think twice about it, but hopefully things might be getting sorted out anyway ☺️

What's just over the sea?
