I am an over thinker and someone said to me it’s “a bit close” to the conflict.

Travelling to Antalya.

Thoughts?

I'm going to Sarigerme in July to an AI. I'm worried about the heat but not the conflict.....yet!

What's just over the sea?

The Israel/Palestine conflict. I remember when I was in Cyprus there were boat trips to the holy land.

Nodancingshoes · 25/06/2025 13:25

We are going in 2 weeks and, no, I'm not worried - it's hundreds of miles away from the Iranian border. We go to OluDeniz and never seen any Russians.

I’ve been once. Last year. Was not a fan. Never again. Also as above poster said, the price of things 😮

What didn’t you like? Was considering it in October as it’s one of the few countries I can fly to fro local airport which will still be warm then.

GloriousBlue · 25/06/2025 13:42

Went to Antalya last month. Had a blast, as did the thousands of other holiday makers.

@Julen7 it’s probably me. We love the Greek islands and Portugal in particular. I went to Tunisia a couple of times as a child and found it quite intimidating. Decided, after friends saying how great it is, to book Turkey last year. I don’t like the mentality of the men there, how they stare and seem to treat the women. I don’t like feeling people are trying to rip me off the whole time. What sums it up for me is, in Greece or Portugal I know I could hire a car and if I broke down I would feel pretty safe. Over there, and in similar other places, I know I definitely would not feel safe. It probably makes a difference that we like exploring, so if you like an AI type place and to flop and drop type thing (which we do for when it’s the two of us but not with teenage DS!) I bet there are some cracking deals to be had and the staff in the hotel we stayed were lovely on the whole.

Thank you, understood.

I personally thinks that's a them problem. We went last year and went out of the hotel a fair bit, there was no intimidation, I didn't feel like anyone was staring at me it felt completely safe. I've been leered at more in England! We went out into the local town in a taxi, the driver wouldn't take any payment until he'd picked us back up and delivered safely to our hotel. We wandered in and out of shops, my son who was 11 went into shops by himself with no issues at all. The locals were all really friendly.

Apologies I quoted the wrong pp. I meant to quote the one who said they didn't feel safe

Went to Turkey once and would never go back. Literally couldn't step outside without men following me , staring or trying to touch me. Utterly grim. I spent 2 weeks utterly furious and couldn't wait to get home .

Biker47 · 26/06/2025 09:29

Nothing to do with the conflict, I have no desire to ever holiday in Turkey.

dawnc27 · 26/06/2025 09:32

going in 3 weeks to alanya, only thing im worried about is the heat, i get bad prickly heat but thats my only real worry at the moment tbh

israel war zone And Lebanon its only 300km from Cyprus. You can see rockets blowing things up in Israel from Cyprus- I’ve moved my holiday because of it - I changed it back in January and things are worse now. We’ll be going to turkey which is much safer!!!

What's just over the sea?

Have you heard of "the Middle East" region..?

Overitallnow · 26/06/2025 10:41

Went 2 years ago, very reasonable prices. Last year shocked at how expensive it was. London prices for mediocre food and drinks.

Yorkshiremum80 · 26/06/2025 11:25

We went to Kusadasi for a day and had 4 pints of lager and 2 cokes for just under £20 so not sure where the mega high prices are being charged

I know what you mean - we are going to an AI resort so not an issue there.
