Flights and hotel booked but really don't want to go!

As the title, outlay currently is just over £500 for 5 day break.

I'm just dreading it tbh.

It's only northern Spain but is going to be unbearably hot (for me) over 32°.

Not just the heat though, I realise that the hotel is a few km from the centre (my mistake) and to visit any of the surrounding areas will require taxis to and from hotel, then trains. Just too much of a faff.

Dh has no problem, whatever I decide, just can't seem to summon up any enthusiasm, don't know what possessed me to book really (back in February).

So, AIBU not to go?

LOL

Whatifitallgoesright · 23/06/2025 13:31

That's pretty cheap, so you could justify hiring a car?

BIWI · 23/06/2025 13:34

Is there a pool?

MascaraGirl · 23/06/2025 13:36

Local bus service?

Blodyneighbour · 23/06/2025 13:38

Enjoy it for what it is then. It's only 5 nights so just relax at the hotel and have a nice break.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 23/06/2025 13:38

I’d go and just laze around bring books, drink nice wine, some pampering stuff. It could be lovely. Go for a siesta when it is hot, go out in the evening when heat has left the day.

namechangeGOT · 23/06/2025 13:40

For £500 quid I’d be making it into a lovely quiet break, there will be lovely, genuine Spanish restaurants, serving proper Spanish food. Hope none of those ‘Bennys Bar’ places so often frequented in major resorts. Spend the day pottering round where you are instead of getting into the main centre, sit in the shade at the hottest times and just enjoying each others company.

ZenNudist · 23/06/2025 13:40

Northern Spain is amazing and the food and wine is lush. I'd be there like a shot.

I very much doubt its going to be that hot all the time. Usually much more clement. It rains quite a bit.

Hire a car. Or just uber. Where i stayed on the outskirts of San Sebastian it was so easy to get the bus. Their travel system is excellent and cheap.

Unbeleevable · 23/06/2025 13:40

Yanbu for not feeling up to it. I hate intense heat too.

if you are going to whinge and be miserable company - cancel it.

if you can tough it out by taking long siestas and going out early a.m. or late at night then go!

is there a pool at your accommodation?

make it more of a lazy mooching holiday instead of sightseeing. You’ll probably have an amazing time

Poopeepoopee · 23/06/2025 13:51

Don't go. It's just too hot.

PinkyFlamingo · 23/06/2025 13:55

Why do you need to visit surrounding areas? Just relax.

blubberyboo · 23/06/2025 13:55

YABU, doubt and nerves often creep in for many people before a journey and googling will always throw up some negatives that you focus too much on.

Any travelling requires adjustment and compromise to your expectations. If you cancel this you will just keep talking yourself out of all sorts of travel. Often the things we dread turn out to be great experiences.

Go and take some of the tips here

Starlight1984 · 23/06/2025 14:14

Why on earth did you book to go to Spain in June / July if you don't like hot weather?!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 23/06/2025 14:16

I think the weather sounds fairly predictable?

I agree with others - I’d just make it a quiet relaxing break!

Whyherewego · 23/06/2025 14:19

32 degrees isn't too bad on holiday especially in a country that is expecting heat ie there's plenty of shade, aircon etc
Don't go out in the middle of the day, have a siesta and getting the taxi for trips isn't that stressful, am sure the hotel will be happy to organise.

Vanillaradio · 23/06/2025 14:20

Looks like fairly typical weather for Spain this time of year tbh! Like others said- go and relax! You have many options like enjoy the resort and area, hire a car, do organised bus trips if any- 5 days will fly by.

Starlight1984 · 23/06/2025 14:21

Poopeepoopee · 23/06/2025 13:51

Don't go. It's just too hot.

😂

Book to go on holiday to a country where people go to for sunshine and hot weather in June / July.

Cancel because you don't like hot weather.

worriedMiL33 · 23/06/2025 14:47

@Starlight1984 I know, you are absolutely correct.

I do feel so stupid, was expecting, ~27/28° but 32°!!

I'm sure I'll melt 🥵

Soonenough · 23/06/2025 14:51

There will most likely be air conditioning that you can retreat to . Pool will cool you off . Sit in the shade . That's what they are predicting but might not happen . It would be a shame to cancel . Just be dressed appropriately for day and evenings should be cooler .

doodleschnoodle · 23/06/2025 14:52

32 degrees on holiday in a country where temperatures like that are normal is nothing like 32 degrees at home while you carry on normal life. I am not a huge fan of the heat but I’ve been on holiday loads when it’s been early 30s, it’s not an extreme temperature for summer in many places, and it’s fine, you are on holiday, you can stay in the pool, have a siesta in air con hotel room, cool drinks, all that stuff.

Starlight1984 · 23/06/2025 15:22

It was 30° in our back garden on Friday and we don't have air con, swimming pools or the sea to cool off in. I would far rather be in Spain than the UK when it's hot!

BlueberryPup · 23/06/2025 15:24

32 degrees in Spain will feel quite different from the UK as the buildings are meant for heat so designed to be fresh. If you are worried, it is worth it asking the hotel if there are any rooms with air conditioning, even if it means an upgrade. During heat waves in my own tropical country, I quite enjoy setting my AC at 26 degrees. It makes quite a difference without weighting on my wallet.

SaturdayDream · 23/06/2025 15:26

Yabu. I’d go without you.

TeenLifeMum · 23/06/2025 15:28

Omg 32 degrees is lovely, not melting, when you’ll be moving at holiday pace, drinking cocktails by the pool. It’s often 40 degrees in Europe and I’ll concede that walking round Paris in that heat did make dh and I swell up with sausage fingers and feet. We just stopped for drinks in bars (non alcoholic) a lot.

Katiesaidthat · 23/06/2025 15:37

32C in the North? Is it Bilbao? That isn´t too much, bear in mind air con is everywhere in Spain, not like Britain. Just hire a car (those are also air conditioned) San Sebastian and Santander are in the 20s, just go spend the day there. Also public transport in Spain is good and cheap, but if you have paid 500 for the trip you can afford to hire a car!
