To think we’ve romanticised marriage?

It seems like marriage is often portrayed as the ultimate goal for happiness and stability but does it really live up to the hype? Are we overselling the idea of marriage as this fairy tale ending, when in reality, it’s just another relationship with its own ups and downs? AIBU to think we’ve romanticised marriage to the point where it’s viewed as the only path to success or fulfilment?

@everychildmatters I got married at 22. Just thinking about our silver wedding anniversary party plans!

@DarkForces I think that was the "norm" years ago; my in-laws celebrate their 61st WA this year and they were also married young. I can't imagine being married that long (not that we ever will be!)
But I think times have changed as has marriage. There are far more pressures on everyone these days, especially financially. And of course far less expectation to stay together if things aren't right.
