To think it is too bloody hot?

Where I am it is also very humid with humidity close to that of Singapore. I had a shower, stepped out and am sweating and clammy again within moments. I tried to do some housework but I'm drenched in sweat and having to keep changing my t-shit, DH is the same. I can live with high humidity and even the heat but the heat and humidity has to go!

Yes, we're not used to this type of heat unless on holiday. I've been dripping at work and then coming home, cold shower helped a bit.

The UK is generally unequipped for hot weather, certainly schools, where windows can only be opened an inch and the buildings have no fresh air circulating, awful!

So nice to walk into a supermarket with AC, bliss 😊

owlexpress · 21/06/2025 22:28

Bit overdramatic OP. Yes it's unusually hot, but the forecast said it would be hot. Plan, dress and adjust accordingly. If it's roasting hot, leave the housework for a day or two. I got two washings dried today. I've barely sweated today, I hate to say it but weight and fitness levels are also a factor.

I live in new build (notorious for keeping the heat in) but close windows and blinds in the morning and then open them again around 9pm when it's cooler. Sitting in my lounge now and it's very pleasant. And we're more humid than Singapore, apparently.

Literally cannot believe someone has cancelled a holiday to Majorca over the heat... They're set up for summer heat, it's much better to be in 28 degree heat somewhere with air con and a pool.

Greenfingers37 · 21/06/2025 22:38

We’ve just realised that, having spent a week in central Europe in 30 degrees plus temps that it just doesn’t suit us any more. Constantly looking for shade and dripping with sweat.
Horses for courses.

jaundicedoutlook · 21/06/2025 22:58

It’s been pretty hot in Sevenoaks today - 28c and high humidity. The dog has been panting and needed a big drink from the tap when having a paw clean after running round in the shade in the back garden, and DDs managed to polish off all my chilled barley tea in the fridge, before I got the chance to drink any of it. DH is hopeless in the heat and disappeared into his office, which is the only room in the house with actual aircon, claiming overdue work (which I suspect to be BS and he was really just pussing about on the computer).

The plan was to have a BBQ, but the parasol broke on the garden table, meaning we’d have been sat out under the direct sun, so we had chilled noodles instead and watched a bad film.

All told, it was fine, but the forecast is for it to be cooler tomorrow, which I’m looking forward to!

findmeaunicorn · 21/06/2025 23:06

I feel ill with it - lethargic, no appetite, dizzy, irritable 😠

RampantIvy · 21/06/2025 23:10

We have had a few days of 28 degrees here in Yorkshire and it is still 24 degrees, but tomorrow's high is only 20 degrees.

We didn't get the thunderstorm that was originally forecast.

I'm off for a cool shower before bed.

dudsville · 21/06/2025 23:11

I'm lying here with a fan on and all the windows and curtains open. I've only got a sheet on me but it's too warm. The really stupid thing is that we have a mobile air con unit. I was too hot and lethargic to dig it out and set it up. I'm so it tomorrow and leave it in situ for the rest of the summer. Tomorrow I have to do a pile of ironing as I love cotton and linen dresses and pjs and have a lot to do from this past week. I'll melt.

WibbleyPie · 21/06/2025 23:19

I've been at work - in hospitality - all day and it's been so hot.
Certain areas are air conned but not everywhere and most of our customers have been outside. We've been given baseball caps, sun screen, were told we could wear shorts, more regular breaks and access to a shower, but of course there's always one knob head isn't there and we had a complaint that the staff didn't look 'professional enough' waiting on outside in 27•c , wearing shorts and baseball caps. I mean I'm not sure how professional heat stroke looks either, or if some people just think that the heat doesn't affect hospitality staff or something.

The walk in fridge has been everyone's favourite place today!

orlamug · 22/06/2025 02:11

@owlexpress to be fair some people find it harder to cope with the heat. I'm fine in sub zero temps, I have excellent circulation and naturally run hot so this weather does me in. Add to that the humidity which again varies across the country then its fair enough if some people are finding is tough. Some people really struggle in cold, winter temperatures.

Nothankyov · 22/06/2025 02:17

@orlamug nope not too hot! Love heat can’t get enough of it.

dontforgetme · 22/06/2025 02:48

It’s fucking roasting and I can’t sleep.

XWKD · 22/06/2025 02:54

I'm not a summer person. I like sunny winter mornings here in Ireland. I like autumn and spring too.

bittertwisted · 22/06/2025 03:53

I bloody love it, probably good it’s rare because I would get nothing done. You know people live in hot countries and survive

PersephoneSmith · 21/06/2025 21:59

Which theatre? Did you see anything good?
I was at the Mayflower in Southampton, it was proper chilly 🥶

I went to see The Mousetrap at St Martin’s in London, very good performance. What did you see?

dottiedodah · 22/06/2025 05:27

I am South of London, it's summer weather, but not that hot frankly. Kids are still playing sports outside, we even had sports day yesterday. No one was badly affected. We put a hat on kids and give them water.

On Friday it was 40c in my garden so yes very hot. Yesterday wasn't as got but so much more muggy it was almost worse.

You aren't in the UK then?

People in hot countries are more acclimatised to the heat plus buildings and lifestyles are set up for warm weather. The UK isn't and often the UK is also very humid which makes the heat much harder to deal with.

mondaytosunday · 22/06/2025 10:36

@RichHolidayPoorHolidayreally? It was 31 in my SW London area with barely a cloud in the sky and I was totally zapped of energy and the animals were spread eagle on the flagstones. Average London summer temp ranges from 16 to 23 so 31 is certainly not typical. Hope your kid won a race or two!
@orlamugthe humidity is 58% here.

Quadrophenia. Very good. I’ve not been able to see The Mousetrap, my wheelchair won’t fit in their space 😒

Come to Scotland.

No ‘UK’ heatwave here.

it’s been 17C most of the day and raining.

Where are you? Perth has had lots of sunny warm weather.

Tbf, they’re accustomed to it. People in the UK generally aren’t. Makes a difference.

Depends where you are - my bit of Scotland was 27C yesterday and 25C and very humid today.

15 here.

RampantIvy · 22/06/2025 10:56

It's currently a comfortable 20 degrees in South Yorkshire, with much needed rain forecast.
