no its not my house and it is already sold but the price seemed very low to me? I would be interested in something like this but I wonder if there is something wrong with it that I’m not seeing?

It has a whiff of post-war pre-fab about it - have you asked about its construction? ‘Timber-framed style exterior’ = I wonder if the beams in the living room have been added in an attempt to give it a more authentic Tudor feel, and are the beams on the front of the house real or mock Tudor? It has a feel of cheap construction throughout.

The estate agent description reeks of a money pit covered up as a ‘much-loved’ home. ‘The property has been a much loved home over many years but areas will require updating for some.’

It's a tiny house that really is barely more than two beds. The location is rank and it needs to be stripped out and refurbished. If a builder buys it, they might get a lovely house with refurb at cost but that won't change the location.

OnTheBoardwalk · 21/06/2025 09:19

Totally haunted by the creepy ghost doll on pic 8

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 21/06/2025 09:19

It's the location and the fact that the entire house needs renovating!

DontTouchRoach · 21/06/2025 09:27

It’s in a cheap part of the country, it’s right on a busy roundabout and it needs tens of thousands spent on it, probably including new central heating (oil central heating? No thanks).

And no, definitely not a listed building! The beams on the outside are fake. It looks maybe 1960s / 70s.

Also bedroom three is minuscule. It’s only 6ft wide.

Owt · 21/06/2025 09:30

Thanks everyone, I’m so glad I didn’t buy it now but then I would hope I would have seen these issues if I’d gone to view it. I also thought the beams were original.

I'm another in a village with no gas. Everything is electric - not so hard to understand, surely? But the oil fired CH will be a nightmare, I had it in my last place and it cost squillions to run and the oil lorry has to be able to delivery, which looks as though it might be a bit of a problem here without causing traffic chaos.

Really? We find we spend far less with oil than we used to when we were on gas central heating!

We also have an induction hob, which we've found much easier than gas and the heat seems to be more even and responsive. We don't have a septic tank either, I think they are rarer these days.

I think it's just because of the location and the work that needs doing, I do think it could be made very nice though.

I wonder if it is a listed building? When would you say it was built? What era?

I was be stunned if it was listed.

On The Market (where it was listed last year at £245k and obviously didn’t sell) says it was built in “the late 1800s” - so it’s just a run of the mill Victorian farm worker’s cottage. There are millions of them around. This particular one is in a bad location and a bad state of repair. Looking at the Land Registry, they are also selling additional land off separately, so you may also be looking at a housing development going up next door.

Depends on the type of house. My last house was draughty, huge and the heating was very hard to control - so you either heated everywhere or nowhere. It was a very old house. I guess in a modern, insulated house it will be better. I've never had gas anywhere I've lived so no idea how cheap gas CH is. But I know that it can be hard to get an oil delivery when you need one and you need to make sure that your automatic caller on the tank is working so you don't run out of oil completely. It can be miserable in a cold winter to run out of oil and find that you need your boiler to be reset because of an airlock and the lorry can't get up the hill to you because of snow...

Maybe I'm prejudiced against oil fired heating by some horrible experiences!

Yes I think you may be, but understandable. We find it really efficient for our old draughty cottage. We've never had difficulty getting an oil delivery, we just order it online and they turn up a couple of days later. We've never run out of oil as we have a measure on it that alerts us when it gets to a certain level.

That’s what I was going to say. The house is empty apart from the evil doll they left behind, which has cursed the house 😂

Gemmastylist · 21/06/2025 09:49

It's clearly haunted OP.

Owt · 21/06/2025 09:50

I’ve gone from loving this house to hating it 😂 thanks everyone, I’m going to post every house I like the look of on here now so you can all talk me out of the bad ones 😂 I’m a sucker for anything old looking

Must be the area, although it's not much cheaper than similar in my area. That 3rd bedroom looks tiny; the bathroom is downstairs; the kitchen needs replacing; the whole thing is dated.

InMyOpenOnion · 21/06/2025 09:55

It's in poor condition in a bad location in an already fairly cheap area. Also, owners may need to sell quickly for some reason so have priced accordingly.

ButteredRadishes · 21/06/2025 09:56

Needs new kitchen, bathroom ...big bit of plaster missing in living room... Surface mounted radiator pipes in bedroom, would want them chased in behind wall personally,
... horrible light fixtures. Everywhere. Shed is single glazed... Downstairs bathroom only.

Oh... AND THE WEIRD DOLLS PRAM STARING AT YOU WHILST YOU SLEEP

For some reason I thought it had a driveway. That must have been a different one I was looking at.

Nope, same one - look at the little windowed extension with the curtains

Absolutely the same building

That little extension/garage may have been built on the drive or part of the garden

It's been extended. Clearly used to be 2 up, 2 down type of affair.

It's was extended at some point to put a bathroom in and make the kitchen bigger.

We were exactly the same moved into ours a few months ago and love it, but searching was a nightmare. I discovered i was spending more time on google maps and google earth trying to find properties advertised on Rightmove as most of the time they incorrectly put location as the real location has issues.

ButteredRadishes · 21/06/2025 10:04

Bubblesgun · 21/06/2025 08:46

A lot of work to be done
bathroom downstairs - i d move it to the box room
ground floor flow is wrong. Whats the black square if you look at floor plan?
garden looks good. Lots of work thougj
overall lots of potential but would needs
a lot of money for me to make it work

The black square will be the fireplace chimneys

ButteredRadishes · 21/06/2025 10:07

..also this weird blowing/bulging make me think there's moisture issues... You can also see the chunk if missing plaster

Can anyone spot anything wrong with this house on Rightmove?
Queenage · 21/06/2025 10:09

It’s in the midst of a thousand caravan parks too

AgnesX · 21/06/2025 10:10

Needs some modernisation is probably an understatement. Starting with the front door.

Katemax82 · 21/06/2025 10:15

Demonic China doll in a pram in one of the pictures?

Thelnebriati · 21/06/2025 10:15

There's no broadband, and the location isn't as pretty as the photo suggests.
