Will my neighbour ring the police on me for this

I know I know i'm terrible and deserve 25 to life, I'm an awful person, morally bankrupt. The heat has forced me to open all windows and all I have heard is people's shitty little dogs yapping all evening on and off. I just lost my temper, couldn't take it anymore and yelled out the window:

'take your dog inside before I take my rifle outside' and sure enough, the little shit stopped immediately.

Spare me the moral rant, I know I'm a bad person and I don't care, just wondering if I should expect a visit from the bobbies. And I have no rifle or any sort of criminal or even traffic background.

I live next door to a school OP. Every. Single. Day. A woman brings her fucking howling dog on the school run.

She ties him to my neighbours fence - on the inside on the neighbours drive. And he absolutely howls and howls the whole time she walks in the school, drops her kids off and walks back.

I can regularly be heard at 8.30 and 3.10 shouting "shut the fuck up" to nobody in particular out of the bathroom window.

I feel your pain - after 2 years of this I am ready to kill somebody... anybody will do - just make the howling stop!

u know how to make it stop. be creative

I heard a neighbours yappy dog barking away this morning when I was in the shower. I also shouted shut up - am fed up hearing it. Doubt they heard me but don't care if they did either

yep hes like brian from family guy, he understands English.

Love Brian. Hate yapping dogs. Hate screaming kids (not babies) when they’re just being spoilt brats.

Adrinaxo · 19/06/2025 22:22

This is hilarious

petsarebetterfriends · 19/06/2025 22:24

I'm lucky enough not to really hear the yappy dogs around me. It doesn't really bother me. However, I know it does most people.

On a more serious note though, whether the police are called probably depends on your history with the neighbour. If my neighbour did it, I wouldn't feel at all threatened and would think they just lost their cool. If the neighbour was a bit intimidating and I thought they might just be capable of it, I might call it in.

TheJinxMinx · 19/06/2025 22:27

My neighbour's dog does this. They don't care and leave it out for hours. Next time id say il ring the rspca or what I find works is giving it a little treat with food they seem to shut up and are a bit happier. Feel you pain OP. If I wasn't such an animal lover, rifles at the ready 😂

Splicer · 19/06/2025 22:28

That’s quite a clever dog. Maybe it was the tone of your voice.

Cherrysoup · 19/06/2025 22:29

Allowing dogs to bark endlessly is on a par with kids being allowed to scream constantly. My lot get brought in for barking (very rare). Next door encourage theirs to bark and never take it in. It’s very annoying.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 19/06/2025 22:29

I wouldn't worry about it tbh, yapping mutts are just inconsiderate and I often wonder if people can actually hear their own dogs
There's a dog over the back of us that barks when I have the audacity to go in my own garden, it regularly gets told to shut the fuck up.

Lighteningstrikes · 19/06/2025 22:29

It would drive me insane too 💐

aredcar · 19/06/2025 22:29

When I was kid, my parents inexplicably bought a hen and a cockerel for the small garden of our mid terraced house. Unsurprisingly, the cockerel cock a doodle dooed every morning, usually at about 5am. One day, a neighbour got so pissed at the cockerel he bellowed ‘SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!’ at it.

The cockerel carried on but it did then dawn on my parents that perhaps the cockerel was a bit annoying to other people and they gave it away to a farm.

so, you never know, maybe shouting out the window will do the trick

AdoraBell · 19/06/2025 22:31

Speaking as dog owner, YANBU. Heat like this makes most of us frazzled and impatient.

I was swearing at everything in the kitchen this afternoon.

Ghosttofu99 · 19/06/2025 22:33

myplace · 19/06/2025 21:52

I wouldn’t worry. I don’t think throwing your trifle in heat induced frustration is a criminal offence.

God I miss the laugh button 😂

SusanChurchouse · 19/06/2025 22:33

I’ve lived next door to a yappy dog for over 10 years. It does test your patience. Last year, just as I was thinking I’d served my sentence, they decided to get a puppy. I now have yapping in stereo.

Unicorndreams24 · 19/06/2025 22:34

I hate small yappy dogs they go through me!.. I do have a dog and he only barks if someone knocks on the door! This heat is unbearable and enough to make you flip! You had a moment of stress don’t worry about it!🙂

YourZanyFox · 19/06/2025 21:52

As if, i'm on mumsnet for goodness sake. I just couldn't fucking take it anymore

Well, being fair, being on MN wouldn't preclude you from having a rifle.

spicemaiden · 19/06/2025 22:35

I completely understand. Over the road frequently has their dirty little terrier yapping away at bloody 4am

LiveLoveLaughQueef · 19/06/2025 22:38

Maybe they could add it to the census 😂

HelpMeGetThrough · 19/06/2025 22:42

I’m with you OP.

Twatty barking dogs and their equally twatty owners.

Martymcfly24 · 19/06/2025 22:42

Yanbu I understand your pain. After years of toddler early mornings ending my dd is now awake at 6:45 am every bloody morning due to the fucking dog next door being left out for a wee at that time and barking every morning repeatedly.

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 19/06/2025 22:44

If this is ndn confession time I hosed my ndn's yappy fucker twice this week.
No guilt..

Nicely done!!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 19/06/2025 22:46

Does your neighbour own or rent, OP? I know someone whose dog yapped so much that neighbours complained to the council and her landlord said she had to give the dog away.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 19/06/2025 22:48

Has the heat gone to your head? I get it
A courier stole my phone today!!

Vaxtable · 19/06/2025 22:50

Know how you feel. Last year a kid was screaming, full on tantrum and parents kept the kid in the garden! In the end I shouted out the window stop screaming

did the trick the6 took the kid indoors
