Loud talking outside at 8am - AIBU?

sleepchaser · 19/06/2025 13:21

I'm up at 630am every morning for work. I walk the dogs at 730/8am. Every single morning, Saturday's and Sunday's included, a group of 4 elderly ladies take their morning walk, usually emerging at around 745am/8am. To say that they shout their conversation, is an understatement. The volume of their chat and the cackling is off the charts loud : imagine shouting as loud as you could physically manage. This is right next to multiple apartments, where many people will still be in bed (esp on the weekend). AIBU to think that this is so anti social? I am very careful not to make a peep at this time!

8 am?
Tbh I wouldn't notice. Lot of children out here being very loud at 8 am.

Openthisdoor · 19/06/2025 13:24

You are not being unreasonable but unfortunately there’s nothing you can do about it, and 8am is considered pretty reasonable when it comes to noise abatement laws.

5128gap · 19/06/2025 13:30

Your casual ageism/sexism is very unreasonable. Their age is irrelevant and to describe women's laughter as 'cackling' is inappropriate. Why not simply ask them if they could speak more quietly around the apartments, because if you weren't already up walking your dog they might have woken you. Or something.

Chocolateorange22 · 19/06/2025 13:30

I think it depends where you live. I'm in a village so if someone dog starts yapping at 6am it's really noticeable. However if it were in towns I'd lived in over the past I'd probably not notice it as it would be mushed in alongside vehicle noise.

Allergycream · 19/06/2025 13:46

Some mornings school mornings i get mums shouting kids screaming etc.
Not all the time but it happens.
Last time was 2 mums on the school run so loud shouting at the kids kids shouting back.

8 am? Our local school bus has already collected and gone and many are on their way to work. Middle of the day here.

Seriously?! at 7.55 a.m. during the week.

Mental. And so rude.

LlynTegid · 19/06/2025 13:50

You could talk to them about it. Say that you are overhearing things that should be private. They might respond and understand, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Though 8am is reasonable for most people.

People seem to have no concept of how loud they are being these days
We live on a busy, but still residential road - route to the station and bus stop nearby. Over the last 20 years people have got louder, and make no adjustments for the time of day or night.
They walk along practically shouting to each other, bellowing into phones, playing music.
We have double glazing, but can clearly hear them. I am often woken at night and in the early hours by noisy passers by.

LegoHouse274 · 19/06/2025 14:01

I think YANBU and that's as someone with 3 young children and I live in a busy and noisy area. It's just inconsiderate. Obviously my kids can be bloody loud (7 and under) but I do try my best to keep them quiet (as in, not louder than a normal speaking volume!) if we are out the house at that time - 5 days a week we are for school/nursery runs, weekends not usually out then though. It's just courtesy.

This. Or, if they’re not actually disturbing the OP, as it sounds as if she’s always already up and outside by this time, she could just let people in the apartments ask them to keep it down, if they’re being woken by the conversation? Because at the moment it sounds as if she’s taking imaginary offence on behalf of other people.

SixteenClovesOfGarlic · 19/06/2025 14:07

8sm being someone's 'middle of the day' 😆 You're really missing out on the bliss of lie ins.

I hate noisy people, regardless of age. This would make me so angry.

ResidentPorker · 19/06/2025 14:08

What’s the relevance of their age and sex?

MauriceTheMussel · 19/06/2025 14:09

Nah, this isn’t ok.

I live in Zone 1. I don’t let the dog make noise in the garden until 8.30am earliest

GoodEnoughParents · 19/06/2025 14:09

8am isn’t early ! I’d say most people are up and about by then

CremeEggThief · 19/06/2025 14:10

YABU tbh, especially if you're up already.

I'm a late riser and get annoyed by people talking too loudly outside my house for my liking quite often, but at the end of the day, it's a public place, so there's not much I can do about it. So I let it go.🤷‍♀️

I live in inner city London, on a very quiet street. I would (and do) notice if a dog starts yapping at 6 am!

Applewatch · 19/06/2025 14:10

My neighbour does this, walks her dog at 7.00am and stands right outside my house (open windows in the summer) and starts yelling hellooooo and talking really loudly to anyone who may be walking past my house on their way to the village shop.

That and the cyclists that come through our village on a weekend morning absolutely yelling at each other at 35mph.

Are they? Teens, people in their 20s and 30s without kids? I think I rarely got up before 10 at the weekend from 18-30!

ResidentPorker · 19/06/2025 14:08

It's called being descriptive, much the same as if she described them as being children, teenagers or middle aged. Cackling is also describing what type of laughter it is, no need to be professionally offended unless you are one of said cacklers!!

DontTouchRoach · 19/06/2025 14:16

I'm not an early riser myself, but you're being ridiculous. It's a group of people going for a walk. You can't possibly expect people not to talk and laugh together when they're out during the day just because there are 'multiple apartments' nearby. They're just human beings going about their ordinary human lives during day time. They're not standing under your window yelling at 3am ffs.

We get this too. We're always early risers so not bothered about it. But it does make us laugh.

Also an early riser so not overly bothered as it's not going to wake me up or anything, I just think what inconsiderate arseholes people are shouting outside your house or cycling past shouting their heads off at 7.00am. If I had children or had been on a late shift at work etc, I would be really annoyed to be woken up by it.

BoudiccaRuled · 19/06/2025 14:22

Sounds like they are having a great time!
Stop being such a lazy grump.
