Loud talking outside at 8am - AIBU?

I'm up at 630am every morning for work. I walk the dogs at 730/8am. Every single morning, Saturday's and Sunday's included, a group of 4 elderly ladies take their morning walk, usually emerging at around 745am/8am. To say that they shout their conversation, is an understatement. The volume of their chat and the cackling is off the charts loud : imagine shouting as loud as you could physically manage. This is right next to multiple apartments, where many people will still be in bed (esp on the weekend). AIBU to think that this is so anti social? I am very careful not to make a peep at this time!

Also an early riser so not overly bothered as it's not going to wake me up or anything, I just think what inconsiderate arseholes people are shouting outside your house or cycling past shouting their heads off at 7.00am. If I had children or had been on a late shift at work etc, I would be really annoyed to be woken up by it.

Agreed. I don't think they realise how loud they are. You can hear them coming from the end of the road.

8sm being someone's 'middle of the day' 😆 You're really missing out on the bliss of lie ins.

I hate noisy people, regardless of age. This would make me so angry.

But they’re not disturbing the OP! She’s already out walking her dog. She’s imagining they might be disturbing the inhabitants of an adjacent apartment block. But presumably they can let the woman know if this is the case.

Dickieanddolly · 19/06/2025 14:29

As an older woman I'm in awe of these 'elderly' ladies who manage to walk at exercise speed and shout at each other at the same time. They must be in very good nick, cardiac and lung-wise, to be able to do both at the same time. Hats off to them.

Heaven help us from ageist, sexist young puritans, I say. You sound like the kind of young authoritarian person who hates seeing others having a good time, OP.

Don’t be silly. It’s perfectly possible to have a good time and be considerate of others at the same time.

You are not being unreasonable but unfortunately there’s nothing you can do about it, and 8am is considered pretty reasonable when it comes to noise abatement laws.

Agree. We should be considerate of people who may be laying in etc for whatever reason. But nothing can be done about it, nor should it be.

im rarely up before 9am unless I have an early start at work this pisses me off. Just because some people are up and about doesn’t mean the rest of the world are.
I have 4 men that car share and ditch their cars in the street between 0545 and 0615. They park up and stand about waiting on the driver, smoking and talking at the top of their voices it’s ridiculous. My neighbour is a foghorn as well. She usually chooses to stand outside my house shrieking at her feral child on the school run and shouting to her friends who are only a few feet away

i don’t think people have any decency anymore. There’s no consideration for others anymore. It’s a case of i’m up so to hell with everyone else’s

dottiedodah · 19/06/2025 15:06

Well I am normally awake by about 5 to 6 am .Up around 7.30.Car doors are slamming , children shouting /crying dogs barking! I dont know if this is just normal noise surely? Sure you might like to ask NDN what their thoughts are .Unless you live in a field though ,I dont think you would find it much different anywhere else!

Motheroffive999 · 19/06/2025 15:06

I have the absolute same.
I slam my window shut , it's just so inconsiderate.I know slamming my window is very childish but I am fed up with it.
I have such loud neighbours, about 9 of them in one house , detached , I can tell you.exactly what each adult and child is doing that day as I hear it word for word.
I even know when they are going for a poo

This made me laugh

Ha ha, we have “shouty lady” (as named by DC) who walks past our house every day at around 8am. Obviously we’re mostly all up and doing things by then but I just cannot see how she’s so oblivious.

we live at the very end of a dead end road, no turning circle just a big brick wall at the end, but she walks along the path on one side all the way to the wall, into the ‘corner’ of the path crosses over to the other side and carries on back out the road. She does this whilst talking to her friend very loudly on speaker, and it always really gossipy stuff, every day. I have no idea who would have that much scandalous content to constantly fill her daily walk.

AtomicBlondeRose · 19/06/2025 15:11

I live on a street that leads out into the country, and on a corner where the pavement is wide. Most of the time it’s really quiet but yes to the cyclists bellowing at each other as they pass and also dog walkers stopping to have a friendly yell at one another. I have a big garden so the pavement is quite far from the house and we can still often lie in bed on a weekend morning and hear people’s full conversations as they’re undertaken as such loud volume. There’s no real traffic so no need to shout!

Avantiagain · 19/06/2025 15:16

My son used to get on school transport at 7.45 and by that time bin wagons and council grass cutters would be out and the secondary school kids would be walking to get their bus. That's day time.

ByJoyousBiscuit · 19/06/2025 15:44

Loud talking is rude anyway. Shame some people are so used to have a tv blasting all day at home, they can't communicate at normal volume anymore.

8am is even more rude.

But why should people care about basic manners? They'l be quick to moan when THEY are inconvenienced by the same behaviour from other people.

Nsky62 · 19/06/2025 15:48

Sharptonguedwoman · 19/06/2025 13:48

8 am? Our local school bus has already collected and gone and many are on their way to work. Middle of the day here.

Lots maybe night workers, days off, or very unwell.
i recall bad menopause nights if off work, would lie in 7pm, 7pm worse, I’d sometimes justbecatching up on sleep

Anywherebuthere · 19/06/2025 15:48

No idea why people need to share their conversations with the whole area but 8am isn't actually early.

Lots of people are already up and about at that time.

BernardButlersBra · 19/06/2025 15:50

Selfish and obnoxious. I hate the attitude of l am awake so the whole world needs to be awake. Especially when the early risers get cranky about a pin dropping at 9.30pm

Ninkynonkpinkyponks · 19/06/2025 15:51

8am is fine!!
it’s not like it’s 6am. Most people up and about by then

Justchillinhere · 19/06/2025 15:58

OP if it's not bothering you because you've started your day why give it a second thought. If it bothers others they are free to voice their opinions to the group of chatty folk

Icanttakethisanymore · 19/06/2025 15:58

I think at 8am you would struggle to make a case that this is antisocial. You could ask them nicely but that's about it. All the antisocial / nuisance noise hours end at either 7am or 8am I think.

EarringsandLipstick · 19/06/2025 13:49

Seriously?! at 7.55 a.m. during the week.

Mental. And so rude.

What’s rude is shouting in the street disturbing others and being so ridiculously oblivious to life
