Swimming pool and kids

Hi all,

Just curious to know whether you all think I am being unreasonable or not.

Partner arrived home with the pool attached in the picture and filled it up.
We have 3 kids ages 3, 6 and 17.

I am not happy to have a pool of this size with my younger two, especially the 3 year old.
there is a cover for it but it is one of those plastic sheets that would barely hold up the weight of a leaf don’t mind a small child and I also feel this could be more dangerous if you were to get caught up in it.

I have since emptied the pool as we are in a disagreement over it.

He has said he will build a solid lockable cover for it (eg something like plywood on top and around sides).

what are your thoughts and many thanks in advance.

Yanbu accidents happen and i wouldnt be willing to risk it with small children It's all well and good saying a 3 year old and a 6 year old should be supervised at all times but things happen all it takes is someone knocking on the door, or nipping to the loo, or making a drink and stuff can happen in seconds and this is why people child proof their homes.

Used to have an outdoor pool. I learnt from pool fb sites that the only truly safe option is to have no safety except for your eyes.
You literally know where your little ones are and have eyes on them 24/7.
Anything else can fail.
Which kinda shows how tricky pools are. I've relaxed a lot since we moved

If he insists you know where to direct the kids every time they ask to use it - ‘yes I’m sure daddy will play in the pool with you’

Did you miss that OP has a 3YO? It’s not about them asking to use it, it’s that a child that young can’t be around the pool without constant unwavering supervision. To the point where opening the back door because it’s hot whilst cooking dinner would be a no go because the 3YO could slip past whilst your head is in the fridge. Drowning is silent, happens quickly and you’d be an idiot to trust that a preschooler would ask before going near the pool. With kids that young and in the absence of a real pool with a proper fence stick to a paddling pool that can be tipped out as soon as you’re done supervising.

Did you miss my previous post where I said most of that?

Honestly yes I did miss it. Your first post was so sensible and I agree with everything you said there. I didn’t clock that a follow up of ‘if he insists’ and ‘I’m sure daddy will play with you’ could be written by the same poster because it’s so at odds with your brilliant first post… He shouldn’t be able to insist because it’s so bloody dangerous and how on earth would that work when he’s not home… Maybe I’m missing something but I really don’t get it, sorry.
