Men pissing on toilet seat, why?

BrickHare · 15/06/2025 23:16

Just why? Why can’t they wipe it up? We have a communal toilet at work which everyone uses, however piss is always on the seat after a male has been. I know this because there’s only one toilet in the staffroom and everyone can see who uses it. This never happens after a woman has used the loo. It’s disgusting that other people are having to clean it up. Suggestions at what to do?

As a regular user of public toilets I can tell you that is not just a man thing.
There are clearly women out there who are just as messy, gross and completely disgusting.

Bagelmonster20 · 16/06/2025 11:04

This is why I cannot stand unisex toilets. We have them at work now and they are always unpleasant. There is a Waitrose with clean single sex toilets across from the office so I go out to them instead. I haven't been pulled up on this (yet) but will have plenty to say if/when I am!

I will always favour places with single sex toilets OP for this very reason.

GinnyandGeorgia · 16/06/2025 11:25

I have only ever used female toilets so I can't comment on male public toilets (and my boys at home are told manners)

but toilet seats covered in pee is far too common in the ladies toilets. I am a woman, it's not difficult not to pee on the seat for a start 😂even if you squat and don't sit!
but apparently women can't wipe either.

or can't close the lid when they flush.

Women are just as bad. I am not even going into the obvious signs someone was on her periods. Shameful and filthy people (the problem is not having your periods, we all do, is leaving places in a state so the next person in the loo will know!)

InterestedDad37 · 16/06/2025 11:29

Yep, it's inexcusable and thoughtless 👍

Lonelydave · 16/06/2025 11:33

DoreenDo · 15/06/2025 23:39

Yep there's one area of the offices which has mixed sex toilets. Seats left up and piss on the floor constantly. It is absolutely disgusting. Men are pigs

Going to get in to trouble - but surely that should be 'some men are pigs', in the same way that 'some women are gold diggers'?

We can't all be perfect, but as a chap I get equally annoyed at some behaviour my fellow men do, the loo thing, is just laziness and if they don't look after that bit, well their life can't be great. It's a hr and a general office issue, throw it out there and embarrass them, you'll soon notice the change.

Dbank · 16/06/2025 11:42

Because they don't care about it, and are rarely challenged.

It's horrible and lazy, I would put a notice up saying "Those with willies, please ALWAYS, lift seat before pissing...no one wants to sit in your wee."

Enrichetta · 16/06/2025 11:48

HeyWiggle · 16/06/2025 01:15

Mixed loos are vile, smelly, sticky floors, piss over the seat, shitty skid marks, just awful. Thankfully the women's loos usually have dry seats and floor, no skid marks. Very rarely I find a blocked loo which might be due to flushing issues?

I totally agree, and I’m absolutely pissed off by the National Portrait Gallery having switched to gender neutral loos.

What’s more, when I complained about this I was treated first with ‘incomprehension’, then bemusement, and finally a clear implication that I was being weird and unreasonable.

TheCurious0range · 16/06/2025 11:54

I hate this too, when we moved offices the new toilets on each floor were completely self contained and unisex (like a little room with toilet sink, hand dryer etc). I work in a professional environment and some of the men were vile, the amount of piss and pubes was disgusting and I know it wasn't the women as they were the same women I'd shared toilets with for years with none of those issues. To be fair it was male colleagues who started calling out men who did that, John I've just been in the toilet after you and you've left piss all over the seat go and clean it up mate, etc. After a while a couple of the guys suggested at a team meeting we unofficially designate a male and female (only one has a sanitary bin anyway so that made the choice which was which) . It was a vocal male colleague who said it's bad enough for me but I don't have to sit down in there, it's not fair on the women in the office.
There are other toilets out in the hall behind the lifts that people tend to use if they need more than a wee and they are designated male female.

I was surprised because it's not something DH does at home, the only time we've had spillages that need mopping were when DS was learning to wee standing up and his aim wasn't great! Even then I would do the first wipe then tell him he needed to, to get him in the habit.

GinnyandGeorgia · 16/06/2025 12:07

The ONLY female toilets I have seen sparkly clean are, aside from the ones in nice place with permanent staff in there, the ones from my office because I am the only woman 😂

There's no way people can use public toilets and pretend women are "clean".

It's not just disgusting, I find it very sad as it's the place you have to take young children and it's revolting there.

PomeloOud · 16/06/2025 12:10

Men should only stand up to piss if there’s a urinal. This should be the law.

Some men think sitting down is an affront to their masculinity. Those men are morons.

Cleanupafteryourself · 16/06/2025 12:36

Name changed ...

I have had this 5, times with 'guests' at my house, first time urine all over the seat, after I cleaned this up and put seat down the same person went to the loo again, but this time urinated not just on the seat but a woven basket of new toilet rolls next to the loo. All soaked, all thrown out, also the carpet under the basket was of course wet (lots of people had carpet in the loos then)

Same again with the same person in a different house I had, seat and another basket of 6 toilet rolls soaked thankfully tiled floors. DH had a word with all the guys there (6 in total a family gathering) no one owned up to it, but I knew who it was.....but then bugger me the same person done it in another loo. Thanks FIL, a strange bitter man he was.

A boxing day a few years back, a friend of DH and his wife popped by for a drink, after a couple of hours they we getting to ready to go he went to the loo....yes you guessed it all over the seat and the floor, how can you miss, and even if it was an accident surely you would clean up your own mess??? Not been invited back since, my DH cleaned that up.

BilderbergPoop · 16/06/2025 12:39

It’s the lack of cleaning up that’s the issue, not the hitting the seat - although that could also be easily avoided.

If I go to the toilet and I make a mess, I clean it up for the next person. Really weird people think it’s ok to leave a toilet in an absolute state (and it’s not just men).

amalii · 16/06/2025 12:45

@hellohellooo and you said nothing? I would’ve demanded he goes and cleans his piss or he finds somewhere else to spend his two weeks.

I had a plasterer the other day, he pissed on the toilet seat of course didn’t clean it up! I was so angry, I told my dh I’m not cleaning his piss so my dh did it. Like are they blind? Can’t they see where their disgusting piss has landed. You’re in someone’s home, how can you do that!

They do it because it pleases them to know that there's a woman who will have to clean it up. They know that she most emphatically doesn't want to, but will have to before she sits down. It makes them smirk.

sammylady37 · 16/06/2025 12:55

A work colleague mentioned that if she sees unexpected visitors coming up her driveway she runs to the downstairs loo to ensure the kids haven’t left it in a mess. Her ‘kids’ are women aged 22 and 20 and an 18 year old man. And she thought this was funny.

Whosenameisthis · 16/06/2025 12:56

I have to say some women’s loos can be bad for piss on the seats.

too many hoverers not cleaning up after themselves.

men I find at least lift the seat.

it’s a problem with mixed sex facilities though as more women will hover to avoid men’s piss, and then get piss over the seat as well.

worst one I ever saw was a women’s changing room in a very old sports centre. For some reason women would not send their sons into the men’s as it was open plan and the perception was it was full of paedo’s 🙄. So mums ignored the “no over 8’s” and took their teenage boys in.

i have never seen so much piss in public toilets. I would rather have found a tree outside.

Projectme · 16/06/2025 12:57

Suggestions would be to speak to the perp(s) directly. If you have to, stop them coming out the loo and ask them to go back in and clean up their piss. and put up signs in the toilet that any mess needs to be cleaned by the person who makes it...their mummy isn't in the building to wipe up after them...

DoreenDo · 16/06/2025 12:57

@Lonelydave ok then "some" are and there has actually been an email about toilets being left in an unsanitary condition
The problem will be those who do it , either don't notice or care or both.
It's really difficult as if you're not that way inclined or trained to check when you've "been" then you either don't know, care or even think it's a thing. Especially if someone else cleans up your mess

Oh I agree, and the easiest way to deal with this is not with an email or whatever, it's a meeting and actually gathering everyone into the same area and calling it out - no one likes being known as the office dirty bastard.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 16/06/2025 13:02

They need to sit down! We should all teach our sons this.

Mulberryblackbird · 16/06/2025 13:03

If you can see who is doing it, you could point it out each time and ask them to return to clean the toilet so that you can use it.

I used to do this in my local pub, although they were women pissing on the seat. I'd just call out that they'd forgotten something, then tell them to clean up after themselves. It worked.

TomatoSandwiches · 16/06/2025 10:51

My eldest went through a phase of "forgetting" to flush or wipe his pee droplets especially at night so he had a few weeks of me waking him up at random times of the night to clean it up, when it because inconvenient for him to "forget" he suddenly stopped doing it.

So well done, great you put effort in to stop this awful habit

I find thus so strange. I have a husband, 2 now adult sons. At no point have they ever pissed on the toilet seat. Nor did my dad, my brothers. My sons over the years had friends visit, as did my daughters. I never had to clean piss up. I don’t know who these people are!

Ditto. Never seen it in my life. Same for the unisex staff toilets in my workplace. Never seen any mess from anyone. There are always posts on Mumsnet moaning about it though.

Who are these people and how do you know this?

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 16/06/2025 13:09

Well I often find piss on the toilet seat in the women‘s so I don’t know why you’re letting them off…
