Surely this cant just be age related like everyone keeps telling me

I sailed through pregnancy 10 and 12 years ago

This has been hideous

I have been basically in bed, signed off work since the minute my test came back positive as I can’t keep my eyes open and everywhere hurts

Feel sick the entire time from the minute I wake up to the minute I try and sleep

9 weeks and it feels like it’s getting worse not better

Has anyone felt like this and then it’s turned a corner??

Not sure but why can't it be age related?

Kefirismagic · 15/06/2025 21:17

I feel for you. I was like this with all 3 of my pregnancies and I was 25, 28 and 30 so I'm not sure it's to do with age. I did start to perk up again between 14 to 16 weeks though. So fingers crossed you will start feeling better soon.

Gosh well done to you for doing it 3 times over feeling like this

I’m not sure I could have managed that at all - I’m very glad this is my last!

I was like this during both pregnancies. The first was slightly better and eased off from 18 weeks to being absolutely grand by 20 weeks. The second time I was 41 and it was awful until I was 30 weeks. It eased off then for the last few weeks. I lost a lot of weight and was so worried about the baby. Dc2 was bigger than dc1 though, so obviously not too badly affected!

I just don’t understand the theory behind it being to do with age especially the constant feeling of nausea which is meant to be HCG related??

My pregnancy at 40 was my easiest of 3. Not sure it I'd necessarily age...

PinkRose14 · 15/06/2025 21:34

My last pregnancy, my third, was my easiest one, late 30’s. Big age gaps, first child in my 20’s. I wouldn’t assume it was age related.

Ketzele · 15/06/2025 21:36

I was pg at 41 and felt nauseous till 20 weeks, but otherwise OK. Hope it improves for you soon, OP.

I was determined that Dd1 would get a sibling and then number 3 was a surprise, especially as Dh was booked in for a vasectomy. He was a very lovely surprise though and is now taller than me.

I never enjoyed pregnancy though and i used to want to throttle people who said " you're only pregnant it's not an illness" because I felt genuinely ill all the way through mine, with various problems, I never got that pregnancy bloom that other people talked about. I got spotty skin, a pair of crutches and a permanent sick bowl. So I have ultimate empathy for you, which I know isn't really going to make you feel better, but at least you know you'll come out the other side.

cryptide · 15/06/2025 21:48

I agree it may well have nothing to do with age. My first pregnancy at age 29 was a lot worse than my last at age 39, though none were great.

Have you spoken to a doctor or midwife about how awful you feel, OP?

PennyAnnLane · 15/06/2025 21:49

I had this with both my pregnancies, I couldn’t eat anything and vomited several times a day and slept the rest of the time, I was admitted to hospital a couple of times for dehydration. It did get better towards the end of the pregnancies.

Amba1998 · 15/06/2025 21:58

I don’t think hyperemisis is age related. Have you got some anti sickness tablets?

Usernamehistoryfull · 15/06/2025 22:05

I had this with my first (DD), and improved around 18-20 weeks in, like pp. My second and third have been boys and I've not been well but to nowhere near the same extent. Are you expecting the same sex as before, do you know? But even if so, every pregnancy has been as different as the children I've birthed, so I wouldn't expect that it's 100% age related either. Hope you start to feel more human again soon 💗 x

Brentinger · 15/06/2025 22:08

9 weeks was peak sickness time for both of my pregnancies - it will get better! From memory slightly better from 12-13 and then much better from 16 onwards.
Just hang in there and tell yourself it's a good sign, even if you feel horrendous.
Wishing you strength

Oldandpregnant · 15/06/2025 22:10

Thanks so much

I have a boy and am aware of the levels being higher apparently with girls but this seems too much of a difference to just be that!

I have my midwife appointment next week so i will mention this to her as I assumed the sickness tablets were only if actually being sick which I’m not - I just feel like it 24/7!

I sailed through pregnancy at 40/41. It’s not age, it’s just luck and potentially other health factors.

Ifitistobesaid · 15/06/2025 22:17

I don’t think it’s to do with age, I had a hell of a time trying to get pregnant but had
a pretty easy pregnancy with my daughter at 40 (up until the very end when I developed preeclampsia).

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 15/06/2025 22:18

Is it twins?

I'm sure I read the symptoms can be worse if the pregnancy is a multiple.

This. I had my only pregnancy at 40, and other than some manageable levels of sickness, I was fine throughout.

Aranciata · 15/06/2025 22:21

I was so ill from about 5 weeks but started to feel better maybe early in the second trimester.

Have you had a scan already? Is it a singleton pregnancy?

nam3c4ang3 · 15/06/2025 22:22

Dunno but I was sick till I gave gave birth so… unsure if age related tho.

PickAChew · 15/06/2025 22:23

This was my first pregnancy at 34. Constantly at a heavy limbs stage of sleepy, dizzy if I stayed upright for more than an hour and had to force myself to eat because I couldn't stand the smell or sight of food but if I didn't eat I felt worse.

carben · 15/06/2025 22:24

Yep - as above. I would be thinking possibly twins. Perfect age for them!

Chick981 · 15/06/2025 22:25

I felt (and was) a lot sicker with my second even though they were both boys and there was three years between them so not massively older

Laughpuddles · 15/06/2025 22:28

I saw so ill and had Hyperemesis with boys (hospitalised as well) . I was fine with my girl so it could be to do with sex if your child. Thinking of you as it is so debilitating.
