Naked bike ride

Was in London yesterday: naked bike ride. Fine.. not my thing (or many other women). They finished the ride/protest/whatvever and then conjugated near B palace.. and just seemed to be happy wafting their micro penis’s about for kicks and giggles/

A lot of horrid middle aged naked men kicking about just felt unnecessary.

What's the material difference between a man opening his coat and showing his penis to a child, and a naked man on a bike showing his penis to a child? There is none.

Of course there is. It’s very concerning that you think it’s the same.

What's the difference?

World Naked Bike Ride week, it’s been going for years, there was one in Manchester too

I do not want to be going about my business and inadvertently be confronted with a gaggle of grim genitalia. Of either sex.

This ‘bike ride’ nonsense is just an excuse for people who should know better to get their kicks in Central London and it just encourages unsavoury behaviour. I would arrest the lot of them and ban the event for good.

Yanbu.

Seeing as most people don't get their pants off in public I'm guessing that most people think it's weird. Also, the fact that most businesses have rules on people wearing pants.

Anyway, as its not illegal then they can crack on but they're going to get judged and took the piss out of.

Because currently as the law is written, there is no way of knowing whether the naked man riding his bike towards you is doing it because he simply enjoys the breeze, or whether he's doing it to get a sexual thrill from exposing himself.

A simple solution is to make it so that either way he is breaking the law and entirely remove the risk of it being the latter. This approach would protect potential victims. The current approach protects the potential perpetrators.

Do you not see what a slippery slope it is to make things illegal because the person doing whatever it is might be having thoughts that range from simply sexual or naughty, to actually perverted/abnormal...

We really cannot, nor should we, police peoples thoughts, or punish people for what they might do.

After all, we've all had thoughts from time to time that, if we actually did those things, they'd be illegal - and we all have access to a variety of things, equipment, body parts even, that could be used to cause others harm, extreme fear etc or otherwise break the law.

Where does it end? Rules about what length trousers or skirts you can wear in public, how low cut a top can be, banning breast feeding outdoors because you might be feeding your baby or you might be getting a kick out of making someone else feel uncomfortable...

Honestly, if I was ‘confronted’ by a crowd, or even gaggle, of cyclists, even naked ones, I think the very last thing I would be looking at was their genitalia !

You're misunderstanding. I'm advocating for taking the thought element out of it entirely.

The action would be the thing that breaks the law. Like driving without insurance. Doesn't matter whether you intended to or not. Doesn't even matter if you knew you were doing it at the time. The crime is that you did.

That way, you can be in public and think about how sexy it would be to be naked on a bike in front of everyone as much as you like. Fantasise away. Wank about it at home later. But just don't do it.

I live in London and I had no idea it was happening. Well publicised where? Not everyone reads the Guardian.

A quick Google yielded these results, along with several local FB pages. There was also a Daily Mail article, but I know the Daily Mail is persona non grata on MN. It's been going on for 21 years according to the articles if you feel that you weren't properly notified then you probably need to take that up with your local city council.

If you were confronted by a crowd of people intending to indecently expose themselves to you and you don't look, did the crime even happen?

witwatwoo · 16/06/2025 19:19

It’s been going on since 2001 in over 200 locations in 35 countries. If you dont like it complain to the organisers

Yeah, this seems to be a rehash of the logic that it would be your fault for having eyes if you saw a penis in the female toilets.

Yes. Many parallels.

Thank God they cancelled this weekend in Cambridge!
A fair full of families and children do not want to see that. Disgusting!

It hasn’t been cancelled, the date’s been changed.

Definitely for the best. Perverted

Astrak · 16/06/2025 20:04

If you don't want to see a collection of male genitalia, just avert your eyes. Cross the road. Go into a shop. This was for charity. If I had been there, I would have put some money in the ?buckets and gone on my way.

LlynTegid · 16/06/2025 20:07

I think as an event it has lost its original purpose. It started out as a protest against car dependency, the naked bit about vulnerability of cyclists (or indeed pedestrians). I knew a couple who took part in some of the earlier rides but then stopped going.

I went along the route one year walking from Hyde Park to get to Green Park station. On the roundabout were a number of photographers, all male, and I would guess they were not there to photograph the men who the OP described in rude terms.

How do you determine when people intend to indecently expose themselves?

XenoBitch · 16/06/2025 20:16

There is an annual one in Bristol too. It is cleared by the police too, so those thinking it is a chance for middle aged pervs to show off their "micro penises" (nice bit of agism and body shaming BTW), then take it up with them.

The law says when they intend to cause alarm or distress.

daffodilandtulip · 16/06/2025 20:19

I don't see the point and there's no chance I would do it, but at the end of the day we've all got a body 🤷🏼‍♀️

Certainly no reason to believe that arrests were made.
