Euguughhhh - they drive me nuts. I know I could leave but the group is 50% useful stuff (we have an A-road on our morning commute that is frequently closed due to accidents and the page always knows first, that kind of thing) and 50% utter shite. Does anyone else have these kinds of people or do I just live in a bonkers place?!

  1. One woman has set up her own cleaning company with her daughter (good for them - this is something I think is great). What irritates me is that, even though it's the two of them and no one else, they keep posting adverts that say people should use them because "unlike other cleaning companies", they pay their staff a "fair wage"... but they are their staff. I've never had a cleaner but my understanding is that you either go through an agency (where you pay a higher amount and the cleaner themselves get about minimum wage) and you get security that they'll find someone else if your usual cleaner is sick/holiday/maternity/whatever and they have solid insurance and that kind of thing, or you go direct to a self-employed person (you pay slightly less but the cleaner gets it all - after their costs) but there's less security (i.e. if they're sick then they're sick and won't be coming). This cleaner is trying to portray the best of both for herself... Just annoys me to try and claim some kind of moral highground when they don't have one.
  2. The people who post completely irrelevant, chain-mail jokes - usually pretty sexist ones about women being unable to drive... They aren't relevant to the group (and they aren't funny) - if you can't control yourself, just share them on your personal Facebook page.
  3. The people who see blatant vandalism or theft and go "oh, get a life" or "we were all young once", "I bet you ain't perfect". Like, you know, I'm a fully grown up adult and I've never once set an abandoned building on fire, egged anyone or left upturned trolleys all over a road. On top of that, as a grown fucking adult, I have the brain capacity to realise that setting things on fire and blocking emergency vehicles could do serious harm (even if that's not in the minds of those teens when they did it). On top of that, I know full well that when people my age (back when I was a teen) did anything like this, every decent adult would've obliterated them for being little shits... so, if teens are always going to do stupid things, when did adults stop doing their part of the routine?! Lo and behold, when the vandalising abandoned buildings turned into abandoning their business or when doing stupid thing turns into threatening them, they completely fail to recognise that they allowed that to progress by excusing the poor behaviour when it started.
  4. Parents bitching about the local school's "ridiculous" behaviour policy where their child was sent to the isolation room for politely asking if they're allowed to breathe or for raising their hand to point out a stray puppy was on fire. Like, no, your kid can't behave and it's embarrassing that you can't see you're being lied to.
  5. The people who refuse to answer questions that are asked. Things like one bloke asking if there are any recommendations for local garages and the first comment is "I don't have a car so I can't help, sorry"... like, why comment?! I once asked for recommendations for childcare - either a nursery or a childminder - and all but one comment was people saying to make sure the childminder has a DBS check. Like, ok, I'm not an idiot, that's not what I asked.
  6. Non-stop incorrect legal advice at every turn - "you can't do that, it's a violation of GDPR", "tell them to press charges", "I'll go over there and make a citizens arrest". I just can't take any more of it!
  7. People asking questions that are literally on Google - "does anyone know what time Tesco closes?" (not on Christmas or things where Google might not be accurate), "what's the phone number for the GP surgery?", "is it an inset day at the school today?" (cue 19847 different comments about the five potential schools that could be being asked about, none of which have an inset day and all of which have their calendars on their websites).

I just wonder if people were always like this and had different outlets (I don't really remember a time before Facebook) or are people getting weirder? Or is this just my local page and everyone is normal where you are?

I know it's gone midnight, this is slightly lighthearted...

Oh no I mean ring doorbell or a photo where they’re actually committing the crime not a random photo

In that case I agree, totally justified to post

British woman dies of Rabies after being scratched by a dog when she was on holiday.

“Quick, someone offer her a glass of water!”; the mad antivax woman in pp post 😆 sure, that’ll do it!
Onviously, in real life not in the slightest bit funny.

Wonderful news as I'm about to board a flight to Morocco 🤣

Someone on my local page has just posted asking if a cat that has appeared in her garden is a stray. I quote: "It has a collar and a bell but it looks a bit sad". FFS!

FacebookLocals · 19/06/2025 23:08

Someone posted on our local page to say that children/teens were jumping in front of cars and refusing to move unless the driver paid. She was saying they’ll get hit if they don’t stop.

One of the mums then commented genuinely telling her that her little Angel was there and wasn’t doing any harm, another parent actually had a go at her for being “tight” and not paying the little scrotes.

😃 My husband showed me this, so glad I was pre vaccinated when I was bitten and scratched by the Moroccan moggy. In all seriousness, I can’t praise the NHS and PHE enough for how they leapt into action when I called my local surgery the day after I got home. A nurse called me back in 5 mins, I was at the surgery that afternoon having my first of 2 post exposure vaccinations.

Yeah! Very lucky! I was going to go back and comment on your post about how lucky that was for you. Or, maybe not “luck” as such, but, y’know, science. And believing in it, and not being as ignorant as the “make them drink water” mad woman!
oh! You know what she reminds me of? When you were little and in school and you fell over or bumped something, felt sick, etc etc, I bet she would’ve been one that used the wet blue paper towels on everything?! And then just carried it on to every single other area regarding any of her, or her family’s health issues😂

😁 i didn’t t think of that. Rabies can cause aquaphobia you’re absolutely right! But not always - the symptoms can be really varied and vary from animal to animal and person to person. Aggression is one as is being overly passive. Essentially if the symptoms start, you’re going to die and probably not comfortably or
peacefully. The only reason I know so much about it is because I got bitten by a cat in Morocco and had to have my post exposure course. Luckily I was pre vaccinated so it was much much easier to deal with but still scary. The same lady seemed to also think Malaria is nothing to worry too much about even when going to a Malaria zone!

Edited

I asked my oh if aquaphobic was actually the word, turns out it’s hydrophobic! That instantly sounded familiar.
im probably giving my age away by saying this, but when I was much (much, much, much…you get the gist!) younger the things I was insanely scared of were rabies, nuclear war and quicksand 😂

eta: I’ve never actually looked in to it, as I’ve never been to Morocco, but when my daughter went to Morocco a few years ago I don’t think either of us thought of rabies! I’m assuming she didn’t because she’d have told me about having it. And I’m quite sure had there been a local stray cat she would have likely not been able to resist petting! Lesson learnt now, tho, thank you!

I was lucky. Lucky it happened at the end of my trip and lucky I could get through to the GP the morning after we came home, Speed is the key with rabies. When I called the GP, my opening words to the receptionist were “I’m sure this is nothing to be concerned about, but I thought I’d better just check,..”when the nurse called back, her opening words were, “I don’t want to panic you, but can you come in today?”, I’ve always been really careful about being vaccinated against everything I possibly can especially for travel. I always take Malarone in malaria zones too. We go away quite a bit, to often quite wilderness type, off the beaten track destinations. Animals can come up to you and jump on you without you being able to do much about it: street cats and dogs, monkeys are a big risk in many countries too. I’ve had 9 rabies vaccinations in my lifetime inc the 2 post exposure shots and I get my boosters every 3 to 5 years as recommended for me specifically by PHE after the cat incident. Scary thing is a few people will believe that woman’s comment about travel vaccinations and rabies and other diseases just meaning some time off work, especially with vaccinations like rabies being quite expensive. Oh yes, the blue paper towels 😁

Oh yes, you’re right, hydrophobia, I remember now. Yes, no petting animals abroad, not worth it. Get vaccinated and have a plan if you do get bitten or scratched.

PS. I was scared of those things too, plus pylons and railway tracks. Do you remember a tv mini series called The Mad Death about rabies in the eighties I think, it terrified me!

Oh yes the pylons and railway tracks. I’m absurdly phobic about level crossings! I’m not sure I recall The Mad Death, tho if it had anything about rabies and it was scary then id likely have watched it! Used to sneak my parents’ horror books from far too young an age and I loved Cujo by Stephen King, that was about a rabid dog. Brilliant stuff!
