Euguughhhh - they drive me nuts. I know I could leave but the group is 50% useful stuff (we have an A-road on our morning commute that is frequently closed due to accidents and the page always knows first, that kind of thing) and 50% utter shite. Does anyone else have these kinds of people or do I just live in a bonkers place?!

  1. One woman has set up her own cleaning company with her daughter (good for them - this is something I think is great). What irritates me is that, even though it's the two of them and no one else, they keep posting adverts that say people should use them because "unlike other cleaning companies", they pay their staff a "fair wage"... but they are their staff. I've never had a cleaner but my understanding is that you either go through an agency (where you pay a higher amount and the cleaner themselves get about minimum wage) and you get security that they'll find someone else if your usual cleaner is sick/holiday/maternity/whatever and they have solid insurance and that kind of thing, or you go direct to a self-employed person (you pay slightly less but the cleaner gets it all - after their costs) but there's less security (i.e. if they're sick then they're sick and won't be coming). This cleaner is trying to portray the best of both for herself... Just annoys me to try and claim some kind of moral highground when they don't have one.
  2. The people who post completely irrelevant, chain-mail jokes - usually pretty sexist ones about women being unable to drive... They aren't relevant to the group (and they aren't funny) - if you can't control yourself, just share them on your personal Facebook page.
  3. The people who see blatant vandalism or theft and go "oh, get a life" or "we were all young once", "I bet you ain't perfect". Like, you know, I'm a fully grown up adult and I've never once set an abandoned building on fire, egged anyone or left upturned trolleys all over a road. On top of that, as a grown fucking adult, I have the brain capacity to realise that setting things on fire and blocking emergency vehicles could do serious harm (even if that's not in the minds of those teens when they did it). On top of that, I know full well that when people my age (back when I was a teen) did anything like this, every decent adult would've obliterated them for being little shits... so, if teens are always going to do stupid things, when did adults stop doing their part of the routine?! Lo and behold, when the vandalising abandoned buildings turned into abandoning their business or when doing stupid thing turns into threatening them, they completely fail to recognise that they allowed that to progress by excusing the poor behaviour when it started.
  4. Parents bitching about the local school's "ridiculous" behaviour policy where their child was sent to the isolation room for politely asking if they're allowed to breathe or for raising their hand to point out a stray puppy was on fire. Like, no, your kid can't behave and it's embarrassing that you can't see you're being lied to.
  5. The people who refuse to answer questions that are asked. Things like one bloke asking if there are any recommendations for local garages and the first comment is "I don't have a car so I can't help, sorry"... like, why comment?! I once asked for recommendations for childcare - either a nursery or a childminder - and all but one comment was people saying to make sure the childminder has a DBS check. Like, ok, I'm not an idiot, that's not what I asked.
  6. Non-stop incorrect legal advice at every turn - "you can't do that, it's a violation of GDPR", "tell them to press charges", "I'll go over there and make a citizens arrest". I just can't take any more of it!
  7. People asking questions that are literally on Google - "does anyone know what time Tesco closes?" (not on Christmas or things where Google might not be accurate), "what's the phone number for the GP surgery?", "is it an inset day at the school today?" (cue 19847 different comments about the five potential schools that could be being asked about, none of which have an inset day and all of which have their calendars on their websites).

I just wonder if people were always like this and had different outlets (I don't really remember a time before Facebook) or are people getting weirder? Or is this just my local page and everyone is normal where you are?

I know it's gone midnight, this is slightly lighthearted...

Say you will take them on when you see their DBS and insurance. I bet you will get silence.
At 12, give your own kid pocket money. Chores around the house etc.

I don't think I'd get silence - I think I'd get attacked, en masse. Poor kid

Trying to flog wine glasses covered in glitter - why ?!

I once saw an ad on Etsy for Febreeze bottles covered in glitter. Why??

But yep, local crafters and their "original" wine bottles covered in napkins and glue, plain Gordon's Gin bottles with lights in.... and my pet hate.... a box frame with Scrabble tiles making up the names of your family.

Also, the posts like 'A family fleeing from <current awful country> have just moved into a house. They are all very scared and.shocked and the dad lost an arm getting his kids out. Has anyone got any old furniture to donate?'
Replies always along the lines of 'I carnt belive this. R vetruns r living on the streets n this lot walk into a council house. They shud b sent back'

When this happens on our page people post photos of free furniture and then get responses saying - sorry they don't like that - has anyone got something more modern 😂. Winds me up that people are supposedly desperate but not that desperate!

If you think Facebook is bad, have you seen the posts on NextDoor? They are ridiculous, and more people on their without a clue of how to use social media!! Lots of lost cats, mysterious ring doorbell footage, topped off with a lot of moaning about things / life...

Next door is a racist cesspit. I had to get off it because it made me dislike my neighbourhood, which previously had always seemed very friendly and welcoming.

They belong in the sort of home where the owner has mounted several photographs on a frame and refers to it as a "collage" as opposed to a "montage".

🫣 I've got one of those - a handcrafted one by a housemates girlfriend. Currently in storage. Doesn't really go with the taxidermy and erotic art, but it's the thought that counts .....

I don't mind the artwork, it's the calling it a "collage" which makes my pee blood boil. I feel like I want to ask if they enjoyed screwing up all the photos and sticking them down to make a new textured image.

I keep seeing posts being shared including in local groups like “two foreign looking men tried to snatch my child in the park” they then go on to describe a scenario of 2 men being in the same place as this child while they play, and maybe seeing the child with their foreign eyes. With no evidence they were foreign or not.

I will never understand why these people think so many bloody non British people want to steal their kids.

There were several posts on my village FB posts about a man following kids and I ignored it because they said he looked Eastern European so I thought it was the usual racist rubbish. It turned out there was a man, he tried to abduct a primary school-age girl to take her to the woods. He was white Scottish.

It's illegal to let your cat out?? Why?

They kill native birds and wildlife. A lot of native animals are endangered because of feral cats. We have a massive feral cat problem, from stray cats that have gone feral and live in the outback. There is hundreds of millions of feral cats in Australia causing so much damage to our native animals.

Andoutcomethewolves · 17/06/2025 11:13

TBF re the lost pets posts, my sister had her dog stolen from her garden and the local FB page identified where he was (thankfully ok, just with a slightly (or very) mental woman who thought he was being mistreated - he absolutely was not!). It went viral to the point that when I slipped over and gave myself concussion and a head injury when walking him a couple of weeks later the paramedics were both like 'Oh my god! Is that the dog X that was missing?? Oh hello boy!'. Meanwhile I'm just sat in the ambulance waiting to go hospital while they pet my sister's dog 🤣

We've actually set up an alternative FB group for Bristol as the main one (Bristol Mutual Aid) was getting so annoying. The new one is 'Bristol Mutual Aid - the one not run by terminally online nutcases' (I didn't come up with the name btw but it's pretty accurate, they banned people at the drop of a hat and the original site was just begging posts)

The endless “is this cat lost” posts, including a photo of an obviously well looked after pet!

Yep 'This cat keeps coming into my garden, I think it must be a stray' - no, that's what cats do, especially if you feed them 🤦

bowchicawowwow · 17/06/2025 19:10

we have posts about loose sheep, sheep on their back, cows in the wood, cows in gardens. Also, stray dog don’t chase just report. Also complaints about bonfires, cockerels and wood burners

Absolutely terrifying but thankfully very rare. I wonder if an accurate description of the perpetrator would have meant he was caught he acted. Mind you, how do the police go on the look out for someone who “looks foreign”?

Every time I see a post about “a foreign looking person is trying to snatch kids” I always wonder if they’ve reported it to the police and not just the fb huns. Either way it’s usually dog whistle racism from what I can gather.

We have one lady on ours who has to comment on EVERY POST and acts as though she’s an expert on EVERY TOPIC.

Once someone was asking about the best place to get travel vaccinations locally and her first response was “I can’t think of anywhere you would travel to these days where you would need to be vaccinated against anything”. Somebody else then listed a load of countries for where it’s strongly advised to get vaccinations for diseases such as rabies and cholera and also take anti materials and the lady’s response was “oh, I guess if you can afford it, it’s worth getting vaccinated rather than risking having to take a week off work when you come back because you’re ill.” Seriously that’s what she thought. Rabies, no problem really, just rest for a week and drink plenty of fluids!

I’d love to see this woman trying to offer water to a rabid dog (or person!), because doesn’t it cause some sort of water aversion/phobia? Not sure of name, aquaphobic? Probably not! But yeah good luck on the fluids when she catches rabies 😆

The one that really gets me is Nextdoor. It's an absolute cesspool: most of the people who go on there are spoiling for a fight and illiterate. The racism and xenophobia is eye-watering and the posts immediately trigger long screeds about "sending them back" etc.

Someone posted a couple of weeks ago: "there's a black teenager on a bike outside my house. Should I call the police?" I live in South London so black teenagers aren't a rare sight. I find it astonishing that people manage their day to day lives with this level of paranoia.

By contrast my local Facebook page seems positively civilized.

Oh god, yes. I don’t use FB but I do ocassionally like to dip a toe in to my local NextDoor cesspool. Maybe once or twice i may have wound them up and watched them go 😂

yeah because that’s the issue not the fact they’ve just committed a load of crime..

😁 i didn’t t think of that. Rabies can cause aquaphobia you’re absolutely right! But not always - the symptoms can be really varied and vary from animal to animal and person to person. Aggression is one as is being overly passive. Essentially if the symptoms start, you’re going to die and probably not comfortably or
peacefully. The only reason I know so much about it is because I got bitten by a cat in Morocco and had to have my post exposure course. Luckily I was pre vaccinated so it was much much easier to deal with but still scary. The same lady seemed to also think Malaria is nothing to worry too much about even when going to a Malaria zone!

I agree with you to an extent. Especially if the police are looking for the perpetrators However, we had an incident on a local group just last weekend where (as it transpired) a group of teenagers had made a fake profile and put up a photo of another teenager they were bullying telling everyone completely falsely that the boy in the photo assaulted someone and tried to do something unsavoury to a 7 year old. The photo was of this lad at work at a local fast food place just smiling and serving a customer. Best not to post any crime related photos or videos unless the police have okayed it in my opinion,

Similar happened in my local group. Someone got a photo of some kids firing catapults at swans in a local beauty spot.
Several cries about taking photos of kids and posting them online.

The more batshit posts are people complaining about people taking photos in public places (it is allowed!), with their own photographic evidence of the perpetrator

There was a post I saw where a lady was complaining about a man stood in her street who was taking photos of her house. Someone pointed out the estate agent's car in the back ground, and that he was probably taking photos of her neighbours house if it was about to go on the market.
The fact she caught him doing this on her own Ring doorbell seemed to be lost on her.

Oh no I mean ring doorbell or a photo where they’re actually committing the crime not a random photo
