To often feel ill/sick when the weather gets suddenly hot?!

Suuudohnym · 13/06/2025 14:57

No health issues, healthy weight, in fact I’d say I’m quite fit. But whenever the weather gets suddenly hot like today, I lose my appetite ( but still eat and drink plenty of water) and can sometimes feel hot, a bit sick and shaky.

Anyone else?

Why is that? It’s not like it’s desert-like conditions today - just a lot warmer than it has been.

It’s the opposite for me. I feel so much healthier when the weather is warm. Just more alive and energised. I just want to nap all the time when it’s cool.

Fastingandhungry · 13/06/2025 15:03

I’m the same @Suuudohnymautumn and winter is my happy place!

WhistleBlower8 · 13/06/2025 15:06

I have heat intolerance caused by a genetic condition. Causes my blood pressure to drop which makes me feel dizzy a lot. I also get fatigued and have blood sugar crashes. It's horrid.

I spend all summer trying to push through the symptoms and then in autumn/winter I'm absolutely fine.

I find electrolyte drinks/sachets help, adding more salt to my diet, eating little and often rather than large meals. I have fans all over the house to stay cool.

Baggingarea · 13/06/2025 15:41

OP have you spoken to your doctor about your heat intolerance? There are some conditions such as ms which cause it.

TheCheeseTax · 13/06/2025 15:52

We are kakotheres...

Goodadvice1980 · 13/06/2025 15:54

Yep same here, apparently hot weather increases the bad bacteria in the gut 😩

CatMum27 · 13/06/2025 20:19

You’re not alone OP. I can manage up to about 25 but anything over and I get a host of symptoms - swollen ankles, fatigue, digestive problems, headaches. It’s always been that way for me and I have coping strategies.

i just wish that people wouldn’t call me weird for not being a fan of summer. I want to like it but all of the above coupled with hayfever and the fact that my fair skin results in bulk buying factor 50 means it’s not my favourite. Some people suffer in the cold, some suffer in the heat and some seem unbothered by either.

SilverBlue56 · 13/06/2025 20:22

Me too.

I do have chronic fatigue syndrome so I guess it's probably related. But I feel worse x 10 if it's hot. Especially if it doesn't cool off at night.

In addition to being too hot, feeling sick, headache and tired I also go red and look disgusting.

justasking111 · 13/06/2025 20:22

My gut plays up. Not fun when you're abroad on holiday. This week we've had 13c jump to 18c the next day. Now it's hot and muggy I feel blah.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/06/2025 20:31

Yanbu but there are hundreds of threads on this exact same subject on Mumsnet and it's incredible that you seem to have missed them all. The instant the temperature goes above 19 degrees you will see thousands of your soul mates all out moaning.

Suuudohnym · 13/06/2025 21:48

I didn’t know this was a thing!
Although to be fair, I wasn’t clear - I usually feel like this for the first couple of days of high heat, and then I kind of acclimatise to it. Feel sorry for those of you who get it for the whole summer!

I didn’t look, to be honest!😆

I get this but in humid conditions, when the air pressure is different.

Maybe that’s it - the change in pressure??

Hot weather can often induce anxiety; it's a feeling of suffocation.

Simplelobsterhat · 14/06/2025 08:19

Lots of migraine sufferers find high humidity or air pressure a trigger. Not sure if your symptoms quite fit migraines but there is a physical affect. So maybe it's the change in pressure? Some people are probably more susceptible than others.

Katemax82 · 14/06/2025 08:20

The hot weather makes me feel bloody awful! Add yo the mix flies coming in the house and my husband oiling himself up to do the gardening, its hell

Girasoli · 14/06/2025 08:23

I'm a migraine sufferer who gets affected by the change in air pressure, so I sometimes feel ill the first hot day after a few cool days/or the other way around, but it's just the first day...otherwise I am fine in the heat as long as I wear sunglasses.

Chocolateorange22 · 14/06/2025 08:25

I don't do hot weather so I tend to slow down a bit. Get the speed cleaning done before it heats up, throw the curtains and windows closed at the hottest part of the day and I just muddle on the best I can. However DH (early 40's) came in from work saying he felt unwell. He works in a garden office and has done when it's been hotter than this. He'd drank enough and wasn't in direct sunlight but felt sick and lightheaded walking back into the house. Very weird as he loves the warmer weather.

NeedWineNow · 14/06/2025 08:40

My DH does if he gets overheated and tired. He gets what he calls a ‘funny tummy’ and feels wobbly. He’s usually fine when we’re on holiday, it’s only ever here.

I’m exactly the same!
Roll on Autumn.

Gosh... that sounds quite... spiteful?

What if she HAS 'missed them all'? considering the fit of the vapours that go on if anyone dares post on a 'zombie thread'.... I thought she just wanted a bit of a topical chat about it during a hot, humid patch.

".. thousands of your soul mates"

'Moaning'.

🙄

Thank you for proving the point I was trying to make. A certain temperature makes people feel physically unwell and they’re checking whether others feel the same. But that’s “moaning” apparently 🙄 Heaven forbid women talk to each other about their health concerns.
