Does anyone know of a product for menstruation like this?

I really struggle with tampons and I find sanitary towels are a bit risky due to heavy flow and make me really lack confidence.

Is there a product that is basically like a nappy anywhere? Like nappy pants or something? I’ve been searching online and I’m due to go abroad on Saturday so running out of time to find something suitable! Does anyone know of anything like this existing?

Do you mean...period pants? In which case, yes they're widely available.

Lammveg · 12/06/2025 20:41

You've searched the Internet and not found anything? What did you search for? Try 'period underwear'.

TrixieFatell · 12/06/2025 20:41

They do period pants but if you wanted disposables they do postpartum pants that look like.a nappy

BoobsOnTheMoon · 12/06/2025 20:42

Or if you mean something disposable, just use tena pants (or any of the incontinence pants out there).

@BoobsOnTheMoon you have to wash those though I think? I need something for holiday where I can’t wash them.

@TrixieFatell thank you! I wasn’t sure if those would be effective for a full period. I will take a look again!

I've used tena pants for overnights when it's a bit of a crime scene. I haven't tried them during the day though.

Always does a range of disposable pants, 'Discreet Boutique'. Described as incontinence pads, but I used similar for my bleeding before my Hysterectomy.

@SilviaSnuffleBum thanks, I was put off by those as they seem to suggest they are not unscented which is a big factor for me as I am prone to irritation

Id imagine if they are suitable for post partum bleeding they could deal with a period. I've not used them but they do seem to be popular with the new mums I meet.

Paaseitjes · 12/06/2025 21:19

I got given medium absorbency incontinence pads postpartum. They're horrible to wear though, like the awful 80s period pads and you need giant knickers. Would a mooncup plus normal pad not be better?

DoYouReally · 12/06/2025 21:31

I have really heavy period.

Period pants are great.

The primark ones (heavy flow in a pack of 3) are far cheaper and far better than M & S ones and most other brands.

WingBingo · 12/06/2025 21:33

Period pants rinse well in cold water.

Timeforsnacks · 12/06/2025 21:38

M&S have a bit selection of period underwear.
In the morning put a pad on the underwear aswell for an extra layer of protection. You don't want to get caught out on holiday not knowing where the closest toilet is etc

Couldn’t you rinse them in water and dry them in the bathroom and wash them properly when you get home?

Acheyelbows · 12/06/2025 21:49

I've worn several pads and pants before due to extremely heavy flow and travelling.

I use an Always maxi pad 2 with wings, a Boots maternity pad on top positioned middle and more towards the back on the first pair of pants, then a reusable bamboo period pad with PUL backing in the second pair of pants. It means I can dispose of the soaked ones easily whenever I get to a bathroom and replace with fresh sets that don't take up too much space in hand luggage. Period pants would be an added security.

Dark trousers are also a must. I wouldn't say it's comfortable but it's doable for journeys. A tampon wouldn't last half an hour.

ButterCrackers · 12/06/2025 21:52

Try incontinence disposal underwear. You can put a pad in it as well. I’ve done this with a super plus tampon and winged pad. Horrendous. Period pants don’t have the coverage at the front and back.

TiredArse · 12/06/2025 21:55

You can buy Evana transexemic acid from pharmacies. That should reduce the bleeding.

Littlemunchkinsmummy · 12/06/2025 21:56

I brought maternity pants after the birth of my first child. They didn’t work for me personally. I’ve also tried doubling up a couple of years ago when the mini pill was wreaking havoc on my period but it really hurt my thighs. The lilets maternity pads worked best me with a very heavy flow whilst changing them every 2 hours.
Have a great holiday!

Wowwee1234 · 12/06/2025 22:19

Have you considered or tried a menstrual cup? Excellent for heavy periods. Maybe not for this holiday, but in future.

But also, see a gp. If your periods are this heavy, it's not right

Cheeky wipes period pants cover from the waistband at front and back. I've used them with a pad in as well so I could change the pad but also had the extra security.

Candlesandmatches · 12/06/2025 22:34

Always do an absolutely massive sanitary towel. Always Ultimate night. They could be an option. They are massive and very very thick and absorbent.

Good to know. I went through an awful time with heavy periods - flooding, clots. I’m now on the pill - a game changer. I’ll keep this brand in mind for my daughters.
