Has David Walliams finally wrecked what was left of his career?

He was part of the taping of the xmas special of WILTY yesterday and did a Nazi salute twice, as "comedy"

At least the show immediately told him that it was utterly unacceptable and the BBC and production have also condemed him immediately, rather than this coming to light in a few years time.

Combined with this and also being booted off BGT for the way he spoke to contestants, surely there's no way back for him now on telly?

Don’t like him as a person really but loved him in Come fly with me

mylovedoesitgood · 12/06/2025 16:04

No, he hasn’t been cancelled yet, despite many controversies. He must have the best P.R team in London working for him. Additionally, he makes a lot of money for his publisher, Harper Colllins. In the unlikely event of them dropping him, then he’ll be in trouble.

He has very good lawyers and since he makes really good money for Harper Collins, they won’t drop him.

People remember the show in show business—but forget that it’s a business too.

Appears that you can't mock Nazis now.

Anyone else and no one would be bothered. I think this is the case of the BBC waiting for a tiny mistake so that they can make a massive example of him and get rid of him.

But why would they need to do that? He’s not really on the BBC much these days, is he?

Haven't liked him for a long time..

It’s all a huge dogpile.

If David was another comedian, they would not care at all.

ToadRage · 12/06/2025 16:33

I liked Little Britain but like a lot of old comedy, doubt any of it would be allowed today, i find him cringey and creepy on anything else I have seen e.g. interviews, panel shows etc. Not met him in person and not read his books so I can't comment on that. I can't really see how a Nazi salute had anything to do with what was happening on the show and how anyone thought that would be ok, let alone funny.

These are other production companies that produce the programmes. A lot of parties involved.

With certain agents to get access to the bigger stars you have to give some of their lesser stars a job.

But looking at how the BBC (or someone) kept leaking stuff about GoCompare man to get rid of him, it just seems like typical BBC behaviour.

I think people are waiting for Walliams to get cancelled and then everything about him comes out. Probably the Channel 4 documentary is on ice until his cancellation.

Exactly, this is what I feel.

There were various stories about Schofield, Ryan Giggs etc, because the media were gagged from reporting on the real scandals and so they kept biting away by running much smaller stories.

How was he mocking Nazis?

I wasn't alive during World War 2.

Neither was I but presumably you went to school, read a book, watched TV?

Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining. I’m not up on this kind of thing!

Grammarnut · 12/06/2025 16:45

Obviously no-one watches re-runs of Monty Python anymore. So humourless and dour we have become. The best way to wreck something is to laugh at it. Must remember that the next time I meet a TiM in a frock, pigtails and 40+ years.

I think people are just trying to tear him down. I really feel like we get a sense of who he actually is on the podcast. Yes, he’s a bit over the top at times—but aren’t we all among those that we are friends with (based on the podcast)?

I think he toes the line at times. I don’t think he’d be a Nazi and have Jewish friends.

I don’t know David, but I cannot imagine how he’d feel if he stumbled across these forums or if family and friends did.

He’s a person too.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 12/06/2025 16:54

I think he toes the line at times.

You keep using this phrase. It doesn't mean what you think it means.

You mean he crosses the line.

cardibach · 12/06/2025 16:54

BigFatBully · 12/06/2025 14:16

YABU.

I don't really know what a "Nazi salute" is but I do have a qualification in business management and managerial experience. Walliams should have been reprimanded, told not to do it again and the editors carefully remove that segment from the broadcast edit.

If we keep "cancelling" everyone who says or does something that we don't like, we will end up with no entertainers left.

You don’t know what a Nazi salute is? How?

No… he goes around the line. To me, he doesn’t cross it.

I honestly think he’s funny.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 12/06/2025 16:55

That's still not toeing it.

You still don't have the right meaning. Toeing the line means to follow the line. To obey it.

None of the comedies you mentioned were from the 2000s?

And Little Britain has not aged well. Mocking the disabled, poor, elderly, and regularly using blackface?! Hilarious. 🫤

Harry Enfield’s lampooning of the nazis was.

Maybe I’m wrong. That’s a possibility.

I’m viewing it as there is a line in the sand and he dances around what is acceptable.

I find him funny, and I know there’s those that don’t.

TheKindPlumHelper · 12/06/2025 15:38

I don’t think he needs to be held to the stake.

"held to the stake"?

Can nobody on this thread understand actual english 😆 Or know what a Nazi salute is?
