Haven't used Asda for a while because there were always lots of substitutes.
Jamaica ginger cake instead of Jamaica ginger beer was my favourite. Ginger beer was for DH, I hate the stuff but really enjoyed the cake.

I’d be telling him every week it was substituted

I read this on the internet but I believe it’s true : tampons subbed for a twix chocolate bar

That was my friend's brother when he was self isolating. Ordered some single Twix fingers and got subbed with tampons. Yes they are long, thin, individually wrapped and begin with T. That's when the similarities end.

Unless there are other people that had this sub.

Nacoesdoesdim · 13/06/2025 15:38

Good idea 😀
I have been known to tell him certain items are out of stock (total fib).

I ordered a cauliflower and got a lettuce.

Not dreadful as subs go, but I had wanted to make cauliflower cheese for my veggie daughter. Lettuce cheese was never a goer...

They could at least have sent you broccoli!

LittleBitofBread · 13/06/2025 15:51

I've never had a hilarious substitution; I still await to my chance to contribute threads like this.

I did once though order a six-pack of large bottles of mineral water. Well, I thought I'd selected the large ones, but when I got home (DP took the shopping in, not me) they were sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor, and I'd ordered the little individual ones…

It was like the Stonehenge scene in Spinal Tap.

baggybags · 13/06/2025 15:56

If the replacement is more expensive do you have to pay the difference?

RJ2025 · 13/06/2025 15:57

Ocado once sent some face cream as an alternative to my usual face cream - but it was “for 60+” I was only in my early 40’s! I was mortified!!

Actual bananas instead of foam bananas and shrimps sweets 🤔

😆

CanIbeRio · 13/06/2025 16:03

Funniest one i heard was my one from my Tesco delivery man - he said someone from the Tesco he works at subbed a pregnancy test for condoms 🤣

DilemmaDelilah · 13/06/2025 16:05

@cornflakecrunchie it is Morrisons. They don't have a 'no substitutions' option.

Growsomeballswoman · 13/06/2025 16:09

Proper Greek yoghurt dubbed with the shitty fat free stuff 😢

Icantfindanewname · 13/06/2025 16:10

Tesco once sent me 2 x Beef and ale pies. Bit of an issue, as i'd ordered 4 vegetable burgers, so I could feed the only vegetarian at a family BBQ. Cue rapid trip to the supermarket, which is what I was trying to avoid in the first place 🙄

They also used to regularly send me huge pork joints, 2-3 times the price I'd ordered. A quick phone call, hack meat in half, and bargain meat for 2 weeks of Sunday dinners.

Depends on the supermarket. Yes in Morrisons, no in Waitrose and Asda.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/06/2025 16:43

Ordered a huge bag of Walker’s Sensations chilli crisps. Got a 30g bag of cheese and onion crisps. I. Was. Raging! 😜

I had ordered separately marmite and peanut butter. They gave me... Marmite flavoured peanut butter (I kid you not!) I tried some, it was absolutely disgusting - I can't imagine it's a collaboration that lasted long.

Sadly it is no longer made because I loved it.

I haven't had a mad substitution for ages but I love some of the suggestions.
One year in October I was recommended Halloween sweets and whisky.

Ordered a macaroni cheese ready meal for DD. It was subbed with a ham hock hot pot. I said I didn't want it. The driver asked me why. I said because my DD is vegetarian. He said "Ah, keep it anyway. You never know, she might like it" 🤔

Aargh, I once received a pack of pork chops instead of vegan ham. The driver was similar and said you can just keep it as if it was a big treat - even with I pointed out my entire order was completely vegan 😑

Auburngal · 13/06/2025 19:05

I don't think any supermarket has settings for dietary requirements or allergies.

Auburngal · 13/06/2025 19:06

My friend ordered a l litre of Bombay Sapphire Gin as on offer. She got 2 70cl instead. Happy friend.

Goodlorditssummer · 13/06/2025 19:14

400g chicken breast was substituted with a tin of chicken dog food? I do have dogs but I don’t order their food from the supermarket…..
But on the plus side, one Christmas I ordered 12 bottles of champagne from a well known retailer. Over the course of 3 days, they delivered me 36 bottles! I did call them and let them know. They told me to keep it. Twas a good New Year 🤣🤣

No , not with tescos at least.
