Ordered Philadelphia, they sent me low fat Philadelphia. I was raging. 😉

Worst sub ever.

At Christmas, ordered net of chestnuts; received tin of water chestnuts. Close, but no nutty roasted goodness.

I placed an order for delivery on Monday. There were 22 substitutions, all of which I had to return, and all of which I re-ordered for delivery yesterday (I get free deliveries, so why not!)

I ordered a couple of the new Italpizzas, which have not been available on the last 3 orders I have made, so I don't think they exist!

I got most of the items I wanted in the second order, but apparently they don't have any smoked streaky bacon AND there is nothing to substitute it with!!!!! So there is no other type of smoked streaky bacon, there is no uncooked streaky bacon, there is no back bacon whether smoked or unsmoked, at any price whether economy or luxury. No bacon at all! And they didn't even try to substitute it with spam or pepperoni. Or cat food.

I know it is silly to arrange a delivery for Monday as they have always run out of things and not got the new stuff in yet, but I had people coming to lunch so had to change the day of my delivery.

JohnsShirt · 13/06/2025 11:40

Ordered a birthday card and got a knitting magazine

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 13/06/2025 12:46

Do they do it for a laugh - to bring a little comic relief to what is probably quite a dull job?

It must either be that or they're having a competition between themselves to find the most ludicrous substitution.

"Yaaaayy, well done, Terry - they ordered a copy of People's Friend magazine and you sent them a trampoline instead - you win this week!!"

I ordered a clear blue pregnancy test about 5 years ago and they subbed it for durex! Talk about close the door after the horse has bolted!

Someone has a great sense of humour!

😁 Gotta inject some humour into a dull day!

This is my experience too, Mondays are by the far the worst day for half your delivery getting subbed!

We use Asda and I've noticed we get a lot more 'not available' rather than them sending a sub these days. I suspect it's when the sub would be a more expensive item and they don't fancy having to price match it to what I actually ordered.

ilovesooty · 13/06/2025 13:03

I usually untick the box so don't get substitutions.

Killed the thread.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 13/06/2025 13:20

I ordered a cauliflower and got a lettuce.

Not dreadful as subs go, but I had wanted to make cauliflower cheese for my veggie daughter. Lettuce cheese was never a goer...

Same shape….I guess. 😨

There is another thread on the go atm saying which foods should / shouldn't be hot.
I recon lettuce cheese would be high on the list!

hyggetyggedotorg · 13/06/2025 13:26

Years & years ago now but my best one was being sent a box of plasters - normal fabric band-aid type plasters - when I’d ordered a box of Pampers.

Not quite the same 😂

RainbowZebraWarrior · 13/06/2025 13:26

Ordered a macaroni cheese ready meal for DD. It was subbed with a ham hock hot pot. I said I didn't want it. The driver asked me why. I said because my DD is vegetarian. He said "Ah, keep it anyway. You never know, she might like it" 🤔

😵‍💫say what??

I choose 'no substitues' as my dietary needs are too complicated, but twice recently they've sent a substitute anyway (which I've had to send back with the driver). Weird but not a big deal.

Drummend01 · 12/06/2025 10:19

My mum got a St Tropez self tanning mousse subbed with carrot batons a couple of years back. I hope the pick and packer did it deliberately and had a good laugh over it 😂

😂😂

I suppose too much of either make your skin go orange!!

Ineedanewsofa · 13/06/2025 13:35

Alcohol free beer subbed for the same brand alcoholic version 😬 I did actually complain about that one.
At xmas I ordered 2 boxes of 6 mince pies and got subbed 4 boxes of mini mince pies - ended up with 48 tiny mince pies! They all went though…

My sister's step mother used to regularly serve poached egg on lettuce.

@DilemmaDelilah I think we need to know which supermarket you use, so we can avoid it! TWENTY TWO subs?

Haven't used Asda for a while because there were always lots of substitutes.
Jamaica ginger cake instead of Jamaica ginger beer was my favourite. Ginger beer was for DH, I hate the stuff but really enjoyed the cake.
