AIBU to be disappointed in new cleaners?

So about a month ago I booked a cleaning company to do a 2 hour weekly clean. I told them I am looking for cleaners to help me with specific cleaning tasks that I can't do due to an injury. I am at home every day and manage to do day to day light cleaning but struggle with tasks that are considered more of a deep clean. They agreed and said "no problem" and all was well. It was agreed they would work from a list put together before they come by me. When I compile the list, it's in order of importance and I've told them because I dont know their timings, it's not a problem if they miss things off the jobs nearer the bottom (if they have ran out of time) in order to do the jobs at the top to a good standard.
They have been twice so far and each time I have felt a bit disappointed when they have left for the following reasons.. (these examples are from both 2 hour cleans)

I asked them to give the main bathroom a good clean including the blinds. They didn't touch the blinds as they are slatted blinds and still very dusty.
They cleaned the main bathroom with a dry cloth and, as I was watching TV from the bedroom next door, all I heard was the sound of a bottle being squirted. No hot/warm water used at all as I would have heard it.
When I asked them to give the kitchen worktops a good clean, they only cleaned in front of the toaster, because I found a big pile of toast crumbs underneath and behind the toaster.
When I asked them to give the kitchen/dining room floor (cream porcelain tiles) a good clean, they left it very streaky and they had only mopped around the legs of the chairs and table, instead of lifting up the chairs onto the table before mopping. So dog hairs and paw prints were still there around the chair legs after they left.
I asked them to give the kitchen cupboard fronts a good clean. (They are cream wooden units and were a bit grubby with fingerprint marks and dogs rubbing against them) When I walked in the room to get a drink, I saw they were using a dry cloth and glass cleaner for this job.
Stairs carpet was hoovered using just the pipe/ nozzle from a Henry hoover which created random horizontal lines on each step. So the corners were completely missed and dog hairs were not hoovered up in the corners/edges.
I follow a few cleaning accounts on social media who are very thorough with their cleaning and also a couple of traveller girls who are EXTREMELY pedantic about their cleaning, so I wonder if I'm being too picky because I've been so used to watching their work, or do I need to say something? Everything just feels extremely rushed and sort of slap dash.

I’d find a different cleaning company and stand over them on their first visit.

I posted on the housekeeping thread earlier today and didn't realise how quiet it was. Hence the "reposted for traffic"

Who are the traveller accounts ?

feelinghopeless2025 · 11/06/2025 20:49

How big is your property? My cleaners can’t do my whole place on 2 hours, so depending on how much you had on your list maybe they just didn’t have time?

Or maybe you just need a different cleaner who meets your expectations- when I’ve had cleaners before it’s pretty normal to trial a couple till you find one that works for you.

I wouldn’t waste time comparing to travellers accounts on social media though- generally their houses tend to be spotless because the women spend the majority of the day cleaning.

I would never expect them to do the whole house in two hours. That's not the goal. I just have a list of say three or four items on there. Mainly the bathrooms and kitchen floor because I can't do much in the way of bending/mopping. I do accept the traveller girls are more extreme cleaners, but I was surprised to realise these cleaners only clean around things?

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all, you’ve given them a list of things to do and they haven’t done them by the sound of things. I’d try another cleaner and maybe explain to them what this one did wrong so it’s really clear what you want xx

Mainly Shannon Brittan and Angelaann Doherty. I also follow Kayemarie. She's not a traveller but she is an amazing cleaner.

The thing about using the nozzle of the hoover to do the stairs? I don't see what else they should've used? But obviously they should be got into the corners.

I also wouldn't expect someone to lift chairs up onto a table to clean the floor. Move them around yes, but not put upside down onto table. They might have thought it could damage the table?

But you're clearly not satisfied. The blinds should've been dusted and they should've used the correct cleaning products across the board.

I suppose you can literally guide them through things and point out what's missing. One last time. Assuming teething problems. But then if they're still not doing it right I guess don't use them again.

u3ername · 11/06/2025 21:09

If they are less experienced cleaners you can absolutely watch them the first few times and tell them how exactly you expect things to be done - they will probably appreciate the guidance too.
I’ll try being extra specific and if it doesn’t work then I’d say it’s not working for you.

ButterCrackers · 11/06/2025 21:11

They sound useless and sloppy and also they don’t know how to clean. Find another team. It’s not worth wasting your time with these two.

Freddiefan · 11/06/2025 21:13

I got a cleaner and the first time she came she was amazing. After that she was on her phone most of the time.

CherryBlossom321 · 11/06/2025 21:16

It sounds like you’ve communicated clearly and they’re not doing as you’ve asked. I wouldn’t be asking them back.

Gongpostal · 11/06/2025 21:34

Cleaner here, I don't think you're being unreasonable at all! Most of the things you have requested we do in our normal weekly cleans. The only thing on your list that we would consider part of a deep clean is the blinds, they can be a bit problematic and need a special tool sometimes but if that was requested it would be done. Floors - although as mentioned we don't put chairs on tables due to possible damage they are pulled out then cleaned under, when the floor is dry put back. I suggest finding another set of cleaners perhaps not through an agency? We work on reputation so need to have great feedback x

It's the bare thin pipe of the henry hoover without any attachments on it. It's a current trend to use this on carpet done from side to side to create an arc pattern on carpet. It doesnt really work on stairs carpet, as you can easily see where hasn't been done as the hoover lines are very prominent and also the corners are completely missed. Hard to explain but hopefully you get the gist.

There are hoovering trends?😳

I personally, about twice a year just use a hand brush on the stairs.😳

Whatifitallgoesright · 12/06/2025 01:44

Just cancel and try someone else. No water when washing is weird. Also I'm a chair on table cleaner myself as its just a faff moving chairs around unless you've a big kitchen. Blinds though....

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/06/2025 01:48

Far from satisfactory. I’d find someone else.

Trendyname · 12/06/2025 02:15

Doesn't sound very good job so change the cleaner.

From my own experience, each time cleaner leaves, I had to do another round of cleaning on top.
I also work from home, so have noticed cleaner focusing more on cleaner areas first and towards the end doing very sloppy jobs of those which should have been prioritised. Most companies hire students who have no real interest in cleaning. Those instagrammers do great jobs because they enjoy and do it in their home.

Jollyjollyjollygoodie · 12/06/2025 02:19

Get a different cleaner. I’ve had cleaners in today and they’ve gone above and beyond. I’m very satisfied. If you’re not happy, get someone else.

Yes you are being too picky. Ask yourself would you be able to do everything you asked in that time frame without your injury? I highly doubt it. Also how much are you paying these cleaners?

The op is using a cleaning company so it will be the cleaning company rates. It sounds like surface sloppy cleaning. If the toaster can’t be moved then the cleaning company should confirm this cleaning standard. Cleaners can generally do more than the client because they are professionals and don’t get distracted.

But they aren’t a robot. If she can’t clean to her standard or time frame then she shouldn’t expect cleaners too either.
