Is it weird to share a hotel room with only a double bed with a small child

Was hoping to book a stay in one of the center parks hotels with my son who is seven. All the twin rooms have gone but there are still some with only a double bed left. Would it be weird for us to get that one?

I’ve shared a hotel room bed with both my parents as an adult lol

LegoLandslide · 07/06/2025 08:49

My 6yo thrashes like an Octopus all night long and on that basis I wouldn't share with him unless I absolutely had to. But in general terms, sharing with Mum wouldn't raise eyebrows.

Ducksurprise · 07/06/2025 08:51

I have shared a double with my 16 year old son, I know MN thinks this is awful but I can't see the issue. We change in the bathroom and then keep to our sides. I wouldn't do it for a week but one or two nights is fine

LightningInABottle · 07/06/2025 08:53

I really miss having a cuddly seven year old climbing in with me! Nothing weird about it at all.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 07/06/2025 08:56

Not at all. DD will be 17 this summer and we’re planning an overnight in London. If we can’t get a twin we will be fine sharing a double. Only issue for me is her habit of starfish sleeping and randomly flinging her limbs about in her sleep.

Don’t overthink this OP.

No but check policy, that may be over occupancy

Unlikely for a double with two people I’d imagine

I also have an octopus child! Although when I told him that he told me he's actually part kraken 🤦‍♂️

Zanatdy · 07/06/2025 09:00

Not at all, I shared a bed with my kids (both genders) much older than that. My DD is 17 and we went to brighton at easter and we were going to share a double bed but we got upgraded, so I got a sofa bed!

Mummypie21 · 07/06/2025 09:00

My 7 year old boy still co sleeps with me sometimes especially when we're on holiday. I've even had him on one side and his 3 year old brother on the other side.

PopThatBench · 07/06/2025 09:05

I have a 7 year-old and I’ve shared the same bed as her countless times. The only weird thing about it was her bloody sleeping position, I woke up with one foot in my neck 😂

StonwEd · 07/06/2025 09:07

I went interailing round Europe with my 10 year old son 10 years ago for weeks and multiple times we had to share because lots of places are set up with doubles rather than twins. We still talk about it as the best holiday ever - was nothing weird about it at all

Miyagi99 · 07/06/2025 09:31

No! I’ve shared a bed with my daughter on holiday at least once a year since she was little (due to limited space, funds or them getting the room wrong) and she’s an adult now!

fedup1212 · 07/06/2025 09:32

He’s 7. It’s not weird. The fact you’re questioning if it’s weird is weird though IMO.

How is two in a double bed over occupied?!

OhHellolittleone · 07/06/2025 09:33

I think it’s only weird to share a bed with anyone in your family if you overthink it. Or think that beds are intimate or sexual.

tbh if my husband told me he was sharing with his mam cos they were at a family wedding or something… well I’m just not sure how it’s inappropriate. It’s just a bed. They wear PJs. I’d happily share with my close family or close female friends. I’d definitely share with my kids (currently young, but won’t be forever).

NotSmallButFunSize · 07/06/2025 09:34

Literally just planning a trip where either me or my sister will share a bed with our mum - we are both over 35!

Who cares what CP think?!

I share with friends when away too, in a double bed or in a tent. I don’t think it’s weird to share at all, you’re just going to sleep there!

UpsideDownChairs · 07/06/2025 09:42

Not weird at all. Mine are 15 and 11 and when we go away we only get one hotel room, and one of us takes the pull out bed, and the other 2 share the double - could be any combination depending on what the pull out bed is like, how annoying they've been to each other that day, how big the bed is etc.

TBH, it's super handy to have kids who just want to sleep and don't really care if they have to share a bed.

Busted2006 · 07/06/2025 09:43

Weird really isn’t the right word is it?

My 12 yo son wouldn’t bat an eyelid at sharing with me if there was only one bed.

A double bed is for two people, so why would it matter to centre parks? There are two of you.

toomuchfaff · 07/06/2025 09:47

Anyone that says its weird, dump them from your life.

Chints · 07/06/2025 09:48

Not weird at all, but if your you or your child wants more space take a blow up bed or similar.

CommentHere · 07/06/2025 09:49

Within your family and wearing Pyjamas, no bother at all at any age.

Padamae · 07/06/2025 09:49

Your small child - not weird at all.

somebody else’s/ a random small child - bit weird!! 🤣

Cyclingandrunning · 07/06/2025 09:54

Aw, my daughter and I were away for the weekend and we had a double bed, it was lovely and we were up late chatting (she is 17!)
