To quit my job

Fedupofmyjob · 05/06/2025 16:47

I am so fed up of my job. Client facing role in a big 4. Sick of politics, but also constant deadlines, having to keep up utilisation, client facing, etc.

I not sure how much longer I will be able to remain on this job. Feel like dropping everything tomorrow. It is taking all my will power to stay here.

How do I cope until I find a new job?

Just resign. It's not worth being in a job you're unhappy with.

Resigning will spur you on into finding a new job, you won't have to make up lies to go to interviews and you'll be able to give a definate starting date to your new employers which will give you an advantage over other candidates.

Fedupofmyjob · 05/06/2025 16:59

Thank you. I think I need to do this. It is really impacting my mental health. I have to go through lots of meditations to get myself together to work.

Do you have the finances to see you through a spell on unemployment?
Can you find a new job easily?
If yes then I would go ahead and quit. If not I would seriously think about speaking to HR and trying to transfer or similar?

Hello @Fedupofmyjob I feel
your pain as you will see from my user name

on 2 months notice and have a big load of deadlines coming up

copi1ot · 05/06/2025 17:29

In a similar situation I did the Launchpad course from Career Shifters. I thought it had some good ideas, great community but a pricey. I think earlier bookings get a cheaper rate. May be of interest to you?

jeaux90 · 05/06/2025 17:37

I did this once, the pressure was good to land the next role. Lots of ex big 4 in my world (Vendor Tech) all say the same as you.

Fedupofmyjob · 05/06/2025 18:24

Thank you.

A transfer to enabling services will be ideal. Wondering if they will allow that though.

My performance review wasn’t very good and I think they want me out due to age; this has killed any motivation I have left. Feel like dropping everything tomorrow.

I don’t have as much money as I would like as have been putting a lot in my pension. I hope I can find a job easily as have good experience. DH in good salary though so we won’t starve but I am used to have my own money and independence.

Get signed off if you're struggling and look for another job. Whilst you shouldn't stay in a job thats affecting your mental health, the job market is brutal at the moment and the saying its easier to find a job when you have a job is true.

Just apply elsewhere. Ive always worked in internal audit for banks/ building societies and we have a ton of people come in from the big 4. I haven’t heard anyone regret the lifestyle change! I don’t understand why you’d just leave without another job.

HappiestSleeping · 05/06/2025 18:35

Depending on what you do, the job market is tough at the moment. Be prepared for a long period of not working. Or think about retraining. I agree that life is too short to spend the day in a job you hate, but there is a reality of money to deal with.

Fedupofmyjob · 05/06/2025 18:37

Switch to in house. Contact hays etc. shorter house, less stress. Pay often not massively less (sometimes more).

Then there are tons of positions unless you are senior management? Set yourself a task to apply for a job every day this week.

mynameiscalypso · 05/06/2025 18:41

Ex Big 4 here. You’ll never look back. My DH is also ex Big 4 and now in an industry role. He’s hired 100 people in his finance function over the last 6 months so there are definitely opportunities out there.

Yes, this is why I have been holding on to this one. Not sure how much longer.

Maybe I should get signed off? Speak to HR?Menopause is probably not helping. I honestly feel like crying.

Trying with all my will power to not let colleagues down and having to deal with my clients.

Do I need a drs note?

Thank you. I need to do this.

May have to take a few days off to get myself together. I am really struggling but feel terrible about letting people down and having to deal with my clients. Can’t wait to get home so I can cry it out

Edited

I’ve heard so many stories from ex big 4 colleagues having a regular cry in the work bathrooms. No amount of money in the world could make me put up with feeling that way day in day out.

jeaux90 · 05/06/2025 18:49

Menopause will definitely be part of the issue. Are you on HRT? It practically saved my career.

spoonbillstretford · 05/06/2025 18:51

I always found just looking for a new job made me feel better. Big 4 will be good on your CV but there is far more interesting work out there.

FlatStanley50 · 05/06/2025 18:52

I was you. Accountant, ex Big 4. I went off sick and then left without a job. Walked into a new (temp) job the very next day which kept me going until I figured out what I wanted to do. Ultimately I retrained but I did get another perm finance role post the temp job. It is not worth your mental health. With big 4 on your CV you’ll be snapped up.

Not on HRT. I think menopause doesn’t help but I think is also the job. New clients and deadlines all the time, utilisation, feedbacks, performance reviews, where they rank you 1 to 5. I was sort of coping until I got my annual review.

I honestly feel like dropping everything tomorrow. May have to take the day off.

Temping is a great idea @FlatStanley50

Not sure what I am waiting for. I have 4 years experience in big 4 and plenty of industry experience.

Do I go off sick or just quit?
