Superking Duvet NOT Superking!

SuperKingNot · 05/06/2025 10:53

PLEASE HELP. It’s driving me mad!

I have bought two ‘Superking duvets’ only… they aren’t Superking. When I put them inside the sheets, at least a quarter of the sheet isn’t filled, and so either me or DP ends up with a floppy bit of sheet with no duvet in it. It looks shit and it’s cold.

How do I fix this?? Do I need to upgrade to a queen duvet instead?!

Image for reference of what I am talking about. Both the duvet and sheet are ‘Superking’.

Any chance either the duvet or the cover is from IKEA?

Stopitbella · 05/06/2025 10:54

The lines on the duvet need to be diagonal, not horizontal, have you tried that?

I had the same issue with my sk duvet until I read that on here!

BleachedJumper · 05/06/2025 10:55

Oh how annoying.

Did it have measurements on the packaging? I’d be getting a measuring tape out and if it is not the advertised dimensions/standard superking size, returning as faulty.

Ineedanewsofa · 05/06/2025 10:55

I learnt this on here recently - Superking duvets are meant to go in the cover with the lines horizontal, not vertical! It’s solved this issue for me

Yes. This. Sometimes my husband does it the wrong way round and we end up with an annoying sheety bit. Lines should go across the bed.

SuperKingNot · 05/06/2025 10:57

aha! I shall investigate and report back. I didn’t even know duvets had lines…

Are you in the UK? The UK doesn't have a queen size. Super king is the biggest.

It's one of the following

  • the duvet is running the wrong direction.
  • the duvet and the cover aren't from the same country's sizing. European (eg Ikea) , US and Australian sizing are all different to UK sizing
potoftea · 05/06/2025 11:00

It took me over a year of annoyance to finally get out a tape measure and realise the 3 different super king duvet covers I bought, are all different sizes, and are also a different size to the actual duvet itself.
I thought superking was a particularly size, but now I realise it varies a lot.

Do you mean vertical?

Yes, I’m fresh off a night shift and I don’t know which way is up 🤣

SuperKingNot · 05/06/2025 11:01

There’s a massive difference between the duvet and the sheet, will rotating it make that big a difference?

VERTICAL. Not diagonal. I’ve been awake for 48 hours.

Yes, it seems to! It did with mine. It now fills it rather than flappy bits at the edges.

goodnessidontknow · 05/06/2025 11:07

Super king duvets have a longer width than length, turn it around and you should be fine 😄

Surprisingly, yes.

itsmeafterall · 05/06/2025 11:14

We've just hit a sk bed. Got 2 single quilts instead of bliss and transformed sleep.

Much easier to change and wash /dry covers too.

chickenwings2 · 05/06/2025 11:15

Omg I’ve had this problem too gonna try this

Sounds a bit obvious but have you definitely put it in the right way. The lines on the duvet should go across the bed, not down the bed. I’ve made that mistake myself before.

Our lines need to be horizontal otherwise it doesn't fit!

Blodyneighbour · 05/06/2025 11:40

My sister has super king duvets and the go on a different way. They go on sideways.

isthismylifenow · 05/06/2025 11:47

Yes, as others have said you most likely have it in the wrong way.

But Queen is much smaller than a SuperKing, so I don't understand that comment.

I am in another country so we have

Single
3/4
Double
Queen
King
SuperKing

I tend to size up the next size for the cover, so it falls better over the sides of the bed. So I have a king size bed, king size duvet, and use a superking cover. i find the exact size for the bed only just fit and don't lay over the sides well.

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/06/2025 12:31

@isthismylifenow that is an odd solution - why not just use a superking duvet in a superking duvet cover? By using a larger duvet cover than the duvet inside it, don't you find you end up with six inches of empty cover at the top? I regularly have that issue as my thinner duvet slips down a bit, even though it is the right size!

No I don't find it a problem as the top and bottom are not massively different, its just the sides that are longer on the cover. If I use the same size cover as the bed, it just fits the bed and doesn't reach down the sides iyswim. And I can't handle seeing top the base protector. I do have a very chunky duvet inner though, so I can't speak for the thinner ones.

The only reason I don't use a SK duvet as well is that I already had the king and so don't feel it is necessary to replace it as it works pretty well for me.

you should have the dimensions from the place you bought it? It's obvious if it's not a square?
