I see a lot of viral videos on fb and one of them is from the spud man. Now I like a jacket potato sometimes, but that still doesn’t mean I would camp out over night, or start queuing from 5.30 for a damn potato!! Even if the first order is free.

Why????

I'm still in awe of whoever it was at Magners cider in the 2000s who decided that it should be marketed over a pint glass of ice cubes. Same old product, new gimmick, wild success.

When magners came out ( or at least was reinvented ) about 18 yrs ago so well before sm, I worked in a big student union bar , we had a huge promotion on .
To start with , reps from magners came round on a Friday and Saturday afternoon and were handing out plastic pint glasses full to over the brim with ice and then pouring in about a third of a 500ml bottle of magners .
Everyone was clamouring to get some , but it was free so that's ok, right ?
However when the reps left we then sold it prepared the same way Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday daytime.

We were charging more than the price of a proper pint of Strongbow for about a quater of a pint of freezing cold watered down cider .
The promo was meant to last untill the Tuesday evening but we sold out by late Sunday afternoon.

It baffled me completely !

We were in a car/van dealership in Preston this week and the sales manager got all excited about the men filming themselves in the lot. Then then told us they were "the you tube famous spud men". I am nearly 50, don't watch you tube etc and was clueless. I said they probably here wanting free stuff for likes. Turns out the dealership were giving them a free pickup to pull their spud van. Some expensive Isuzu. The manager in the garage was all fawning. Put us off buying the vehicle we were looking at. Then this thread popped up and I am assuming its the same lot....unless there are more spud people out there. Can't see this being a forever thing.

Whenever a new crap food large chain eatery is opening in my city the amount of excitement and tags on the local rag Facebook page is unbelievable. I still don't get why people queue to get into Nandos for chicken and chips either.

They don’t. Do they?

I’ve had his jacket potato and it’s erm… a jacket potato 😂 we didn’t queue or get up early and it was just the same as any other.
I’ve got no idea why people travel for miles and queue for it, absolutely insane.

@CountryQueen I took a photo a year back of people queuing outside Nandos in a Cardiff shopping centre. I posted it on Facebook at the time because I couldn't believe it.
