To think that 6 working days is a long time to have to wait for a new debit card?

Two fraudulent payments were attempted on my debit card tonight. No idea how or why. My bank flagged them up, and contacted me. I confirmed that I didn't recognise the transactions, they blocked the card and promised to send me a new one. All good.

But it's going to take 6 working days to send me a new card. AIBU to think that it's a bit U to expect me to be without a debit card for over a week? I do actually have another card that I can use, but it's annoying because everything is linked to the account that I can't currently use!

I don't understand why a card couldn't be printed and popped into the first class post tomorrow!

ETA: if it makes any difference, this is supposed to be a "premier" service.

My DP lost his and it took over a week to arrive. Unfortunately he'd never set up Google Pay, just seeing that could have worked quicker. Instead I had to give him my credit card to use.

YANBU but I had fraudulent activity on my card a couple of years ago and I recall having to wait about a week for the replacement card to arrive. It's infuriating but I think this is the norm.
My bank suggested that I withdraw cash from my account to tide me over and I went into the branch with my passport and a utility bill to do this. It was better than having no other way of paying for things.

Have you taken on board what people are saying about being able to access the new card details very quickly in your banking app and therefore use that card on your phone? Happened to me not long ago and I was pleasantly surprised. Get the app if you haven’t already and all will become clear.

You’re getting good practical advice here OP but you don’t seem to have come back.

This is one of the reasons why it's not a good idea to use one card/account for everything/most things. It's far too easy for your 'spending' debit card to be lost/stolen/hacked/bank problems and then it's an inconvenience until it's replaced.

Always make sure you have a minimum of 2, possibly three ways of payment. As a minimum, separate your DDs from your spending either with another account, or use a credit card that's paid off in full every month. Or do both of those things. That way, if you have a problem with one, you have a fall back, rather than being completely stuck if something goes wrong.

Agreed. And we have a cash stash as well.

Thank you all, the new card has indeed appeared in the app and I've been able to add it to my Google Wallet. So all good, and thanks to those who have flagged it.

I'm not quite sure why I'm getting advice about having other cards available as I did say in my OP that I have another card, so that wasn't really the issue. I just prefer to use the account which was linked to the card which got cancelled.

Anyway, all is well now and I'm happy to have my ability to pay on my phone restored!

This happened to me - couldn't even use phone to pay as it's linked to the card and I was going on holiday.
But, I have a banking app, and as soon as the new card is 'issued' (normally a couple days) - it's ' issued' as soon as the new numbers/cvv are created - it will appear on your app and you can use it to pay for things. Hope this helps.
