To report dishonestly claiming PIP benefit

JellyBeans169 · 27/05/2025 23:32

she is dishonestly claiming high rate daily and high rate mobility PIP allowance. She exaggerates all her ‘illnesses’ and ‘pain’ to ensure she keeps this allowance. I have heard this from her own mouth that she is NOT entitled to high rate of daily or mobility allowance. She has been reported before and manages to lie her way out of it. constantly lying about what she can and cannot do - which from my experience around her she can achieve it all. She walks her kids to school over 2 miles a day, she does all the house shopping, she jumps around on the kids trampoline, she takes the 2 dogs for a walk every week, she has 2 younger children at home that she can physically cope with on her own.

should I report her?

Yes 100% this is dishonestly claiming she is not entitled to any of it and had admitted to numerous people/family members that she should not be getting it.

Presumably she would have had to provide extensive medical evidence to be awarded it in the first place?

Lavender14 · 27/05/2025 23:36

I'm not sure what you think reporting her will do since she's obviously supplied sufficient medical notes from professionals to state she is entitled.

I work with a lot of people who appear not to be in need of pip, but on their bad days they absolutely would be. And since its a blanket benefit you either have or don't have they can't exactly just claim for the days when they can't leave the house. In my experience it's a difficult benefit to get for genuine claimants as it is.

I wouldn't report her but you're clearly not a friend to her either so just distance yourself.

Bridgetjonesheart · 27/05/2025 23:37

Hmmm it’s very difficult to be awarded PIP without strong supporting evidence. They definitley don’t just give it out willy nilly so something is off.

Lavender14 · 27/05/2025 23:38

Also just to say, I've worked with lots of people who felt they didn't deserve pip. I disagreed and feel as a professional they absolutely did deserve it. Sometimes people don't like to appear weak, some people will say inflammatory things to create a reaction, some people just don't want to get into their medical history.

People are only awarded points if the descriptor applies for 50% of the time though so they have to be having difficulties on the majority of days.

Yes you do which is why these threads are mostly bullshit

DrummingMousWife · 27/05/2025 23:42

Report her if you think she is lying, then the PIp assessor will just look at all the supporting medical evidence and make a decision on that.

Maverickess · 27/05/2025 23:47

Walks the dogs once a week? Thought it was supposed to be daily, I mean I don't know about anyone else but getting that small detail right would have made this OP really convincing..........

I understand but not all illnesses or disabilities work like that. I have a friend who has a serious health condition, she can be fine for a long time but then end up out of work and in intense pain etc for months at a time. It's seriously impacted her career and her future planning, may not be able to have kids etc. Her day to day is about pacing herself to try and avoid flare ups even though in theory she can do more. I think it's really important that genuine people in those grey area situations aren't refused additional support because they don't fit nicely in a box. I think many mental health conditions are also a good example of that, the application process for pip is lengthy and invasive and quite frankly sometimes unmanageable for people at their most vulnerable if they don't have much support so you can't expect people to use it like a sign on and off benefit. Such as UC depending on hours worked.

They take it seriously if they investigate reports. You’re saying she ‘lies her way out of it’. Be careful it’s not you that ends up in trouble for false reporting.

But it’s not going to be false if I know she isn’t entitled to it but continues to lie her way through any assessment. She states she cannot walk further than her front door - yet she takes dogs for a walk, walks over 2 miles to the kids schools everyday, walks to the shops and back again with a large shopping and 4 kids. Why is it that someone cannot sit outside her house once or twice and see her continue to achieve all these things she Claims she cannot do?
maybe I just don’t understand I don’t see why someone would be so dishonest as there are lots of people who do struggle daily and a little bit of extra money would be advantageous yet she is lying about it all. Confuses me.

I don’t understand the desire these days to catch people out - especially people like friends and family who are meant to care about the person.

You aren’t her friend, so the first thing I would do if I were you is drop that label. You are just jealous of the fact she receives a measly amount from the government for an illness she is unfortunate enough to have. They won’t have given it to her because she has invented an illness, it doesn’t work like that.

What is it to you? Do you think it’s a desirable life to lead? Working is a privilege denied to many. Do you want to claim PIP? Unfortunately there will always be people who ruin things for genuine cases

So what. It's about what you can't do on your worst days. I have a muscle wasting disease. Some days I can walk up a hill albeit looking a bit weird but certainly you would not know that day what was wrong with me from looking. Other days I have to crawl up the stairs on all fours, am too tired to make lunch or dinner. No-one sees that as I am at home those days.

Agix · 28/05/2025 10:37

You'd have to show evidence of her doing the things she says she cannot. I.e videos, pictures etc.

You don't need all that much medical evidence to get PIP, I have no idea why people keep saying that on mumsnet.

Windymillersthatchedcottage · 28/05/2025 10:38

I get PIP but it wouldn’t be obvious why from looking at me. I feel like a fraud but I was honest in my application so I think I must be entitled to it. Threads like this don’t help.

This. They usually require hard medical evidence and even then, sometimes it isn't enough to claim PIP.

OP.... if this person has managed to "fool" all these medical proffesionals and pass the assessment ( where they try to trip you up ) then I don't think you reporting is going to do anything.

I suspect they look at people's medical records before they start investigating

Agree , I know at least 2 people who are playing the system . Film her , get the evidence and then report .

You do need evidence. I have a very serious condition but because I don't need to see the consultants etc for it (what are they supposed to do there's no cure and they can't help, I just have check ups of my heart and lungs) I didn't have enough evidence to claim it.

Can I ask if you know what the conditions are that you are reporting on?

Report her if you feel that strongly about it, so the relevant authority can investigate.

I'm intrigued to know what you can claim PIP for with little evidence?

I’m not reporting them , I’m saying that the OP should film this woman doing all these things if she intends to report .
