Mine is spas or spa days. I used to love them. Went to one recently and was so bored.

Dh and I camped (tent) recently and the place was so peaceful and beautiful I realised I enjoyed this much more than spa days or stays. The weather was good admittedly. But even so walking in the beautiful dales was so therapeutic. Also the wild swimming under waterfalls was blissful. Dh and I often camp but have found the best site. Cost less than £60 Inc electric hook up. First time we've used electric.

Dh and I walk lots. Loads of long distance walking. I also walk with friends. So it isn't a new realisation that I love the outdoors. Just a sudden realisation that spa days bore me now.

Have you outgrown anything? Or found a new love of something?

Shopping.
Buying stuff.
Worrying about stuff I can’t change.
Spa Days.
Camping
uncomfortable beds
arguing

anything that makes life more stressful

I don’t get this - I can’t understand how people, for whom music meant a lot when they were younger, get stuck in the music of their past and don’t listen to anything new. If you ever go on the 6 Music Instagram page there are a lot of people like this commenting on the current output - the classic 6 Music dad syndrome. I can’t imagine only reading books or watching films from the 80s or 90s. I really believe keeping up to date with everything culturally relevant makes you feel younger.

Believe me, I keep up to date with lots of ‘culturally relevant’ stuff being at Uni. But you do you. 😁

Outgrown pubs and clubs.
Fonder of early nights, period dramas and tea.

This! And the occasional slice of Victoria sponge with my cup of tea.

Julen7 · 27/05/2025 18:16

Festivals, what a relief not to have to do that shit anymore

HRTQueen · 27/05/2025 18:18

I have also lost my desire to travel. I used to love travelling and have been lucky enough to travel to many countries

but a holiday in the tropics with a 10+ hour flight holds no appeal its just too much faff

and yes agree with the drama from other peoples lives I really have no interest, clubs gosh no, out later than 11 is another no, out in big groups I have never enjoyed but will now say I do really fancy it

I have little desire to do much but I am more content than ever its really nice 😊

menopausalmare · 27/05/2025 18:19

I have outgrown my old dresses.😬
I have no interest in popular 'culture' - I'd rather have a smear test than watch Love Island etc.

Uricon2 · 27/05/2025 18:19

60+ . High heels, talking 4 inch stilettos. I always said they would have to be taken off my cold dead feet, but feet now have ideas of their own that involve puffiness and psoriasis. Still think they look great (the heels not my feet, they really don't), but not for me any more I don't think. Ah well.

Many things mentioned upthread too 😂

Have never understood the fascination with "spa days". Minimally trained strangers patting me etc - just horrors. And why - for heaven's sake - would I need to get undressed and have my nails painted with nasty chemicals (or whatever) to enjoy a conversation with my female friends?? If I want intimate touchy-feely, I have a lovely (male) husband at home. And, for the rest, many female friends, with whom i have perfectly normal phone and email conversations.

Even at their best, I view spas as being rather like a dentist's appointent. Too much nasty/painful fiddling. In context, in many places in Europe, spas tend to mean something really rather diferent. Better than what's so offered in the UK but by no means pampering. And they have properly qualified fitness personnel. I'd still avoid those, as well.

Also, why - for heaven's sake - do we need supposedly to be "pampered". That's surely not a healthy concept.

I can’t be bothered with long haul holidays, I have had a few thought they were very exciting but now sitting in a plane for hours on end , no thanks, happy to do short haul ones and I love a cruise! Only time for 2 weeks I don’t have to lift a finger and since the rest of my life has been and still is the opposite, it’s heaven.

Eating out is a pain as a coeliac usually some rubbish pasta that I could easily cook at home,so over that mainly.
I still like clothes shopping ( too much ) but I hate food shopping now and I’m over housework I realise I’ve spent far far too long cleaning!

Great thread, OP!

Definitely going out at eight or nine in the evenings… we go for lunch instead, which is much more civilised!
Fashion…I’m old enough that I’ve seen it come “back in and out” of style about 4 times. It seems true that we really only wear 20% of our clothing.
The sheer price of things like gig tickets and admission to things… all I see is blatant profiteering! I find myself saying “ How Much???” far too often!
Ordinary food being messed around with… making it so different that you can pay so much more… shovelling Wotsits on mac and cheese? Making burgers look a damn mess and calling them “smash burgers”? And de-constructing meals…? Sigh….

Wasn't really agreeing with much on this thread because most of the things like spa days and shopping I've never liked. But God yes, deconstructed meals...The disappointment of ordering a nice comforting apple crumble and receiving a plate with a swoosh of apple gellé, a thimble full of dust and a couple of spots of something that doesn't pass as custard!

Schweden · 27/05/2025 18:22

High heels. Give me my wide toe box trainers any day.

DeSoleil · 27/05/2025 18:22

I no longer Ski. Have done so since I was a child, every year but gave up a few years ago.

Verbena17 · 27/05/2025 18:23

I’m a few years off 59 but…..I’ve outgrown friends, other than my 3 best friends from school and a uni friend.
Other than those very few people I really don’t care much about seeing anyone.

I’ve also outgrown ‘stuff’. Absolutely love not wanting to buy anything I don’t need.

WestwardHo1 · 27/05/2025 18:25

Definitely long haul. It makes me feel not just jet lagged but ill. I can never sleep, the aircon dries my eyes and skin out, it does weird things to my digestion, I can't afford anything other than economy so the legroom isn't enough for my moderately long legs, and sitting on my arse for that long makes it hurt.

However on the flip side, back in March I went skiing for the first time for eight years. I'm just 50, and I was worried I'd have lost the love, lost my nerve, lost my ability. I was so pleased to discover I adored it as much as ever, so I'm going to ski as long as I'm physically able to.

Femalefootyfan · 27/05/2025 18:25

I’ve found I don’t like current music and never listen to radio stations that play it, I always listen to music from my growing up, teenage and twenties years.

Late nights; I struggle to stay up past 10pm almost all the time.

Stiletto heels, I just can’t do them anymore and I have some beautiful shoes that cost hundreds. They’re all in their boxes in my wardrobe. I used to trawl the websites practically drooling and save up to buy but now, not a chance in hell of any browsing, actually, I’m the same with handbags. I have some lovely ones that I wear but I don’t lust over buying any new ones, in fact I’m thinking of selling a few.

Not quite over 50 but getting there…

Shopping most definitely, particularly shoes and handbags. I used to spend a vast amount on designer handbags. What was I thinking?

I tried to go on a shopping trip with my DD on the weekend. Within half an hour I was suggesting we sack it off and go and find a nice restaurant for lunch and a glass of wine.

billycat321 · 27/05/2025 18:30

The Archers. Been a fan since childhood. (Remember the death of Grace in the stable fire , so that dates me!) Belonged to fan club for years. Went off it when they stared boring monologues during Covid. Now so many new characters who all sound alike- posh or Brummie. And plot lines that fizzle out with no resolution, unlike the Rob Titchener coercive control theme which was brilliantly done. And I will never forgive them for killing off Nigel!

Pigsears · 27/05/2025 18:30

Cats. Dogs. Animals in general.
The fantasy that I'm going to look like a supermodel

PollyPJ · 27/05/2025 18:31

Staying up late.

You can see reading this thread why most advertisers don't bother targeting us. 😂I agree, was never very into shopping, and I no longer do clubbing, or spa days, but I still love travel.

Definitelyrandom · 27/05/2025 18:31

Never been a spa person - the thought of sitting about in a bathrobe for a day didn't appeal to me.

Where I always used to read well reviewed modern novels through to the bitter end, if they irritate me now I bin them off. Recent examples are by authors I'd previously enjoyed - Sean O'Hagan, Anne Enright and Paul Murray. Novels full of characters with whom I had no empathy whatsoever.

Oh yes, I agree with this too.

I would always, always finish a book. Now a couple of chapters in, if it’s complete drivel or doesn’t interest me then I bin it.
