To think this is really cheeky

So where I live the local farmer allocated a bit of extra garden to the rear of the houses. Currently all I do is cut the grass while i decide what to do with it. So next door asked me today if they can put up a trampoline in my bit of garden . Part of me thinks say yes as their garden at the rear of their house is awful and full of junk . But then another bit kicks in and thinks no sort your own garden out . Advice please

I would say no. What are they doing with their share of the farmers field, is it separated from your actual garden

softlyfallsthesnow · 26/05/2025 18:59

It wouldn't stop at the trampoline though, would it? Give it a few weeks and there'd be more junk piling up next to it.

Don't even think about it. Just say no. And mean it.

@eldermillenialmum Their garden is awful

So what? Let them clear up their garden if they need the space. If you say "yes" it's only a matter of time before their crap finds its way into your garden!

Koazy · 26/05/2025 19:00

No you can’t. Sorted

ManchesterGirl2 · 26/05/2025 19:01

Yabu to even consider it. They should sort out their own garden to put the trampoline in.

@eldermillenialmum Their garden is awful

Lucky then that there's a solution to this which is as simple as them sorting their awful garden out, so that their kids can have a trampoline.

AnonWho23 · 26/05/2025 19:04

Absolutely not. I wouldn't because it's your land to use as you please. If they want their kids to have a trampoline then they can clean up their own garden. Aside from that I'd be concerned about legal liability If the child is injured while or your land.

FOJN · 26/05/2025 19:06

But then another bit kicks in and thinks no sort your own garden out.

This is the correct answer. No need to tell them to sort their own garden out but if they have space filled with junk they can't be bothered to clean up then they have no business asking to use your garden.

Just say no. Don't offer a reason they'll think it's a negotiation.

Redpeach · 26/05/2025 19:07

Why can't they clear up their garden

Threecraws · 26/05/2025 19:08

I don't think it is cheeky particularly but I wouldn't agree to it as you will never get the land back

ClaredeBear · 26/05/2025 19:11

Take the easy way out and tell them you have plans for the area. As PP have said, you’ll have a terrible job getting them off the land if you allow them to use it.

Lovelycupofcoffee · 26/05/2025 19:13

@Oldraver so all the houses were given an extra strip of land at the rear of the house. They didn’t want it so let the neighbour have it . They now need extra space as their garden is full of crap.

Lovelycupofcoffee · 26/05/2025 19:14

If I see them over the next few days I will tell them

@eldermillenialmum Their garden is awful

every single garden in the UK would be awful if the owner didn't keep them tidy and not dump crap in them!

outerspacepotato · 26/05/2025 19:16

You do NOT want a trampoline anywhere near or definitely not on your property. Not at the end of your garden, no where near.

It's not just the noise. They're terrible accidents waiting to happen.

MoominMai · 26/05/2025 19:36

Remember that ‘’possession is nine-tenths of the law" so you’ll be hard pushed to get it back I reckon!

Laura95167 · 26/05/2025 19:43

Someone comfy asking to use your land for their kids won't like it when you decide you want it back

These kinda people get an inch and take a mile.

Don't do it

Stopitbella · 26/05/2025 19:52

I sometimes wish I had the absolute cheek of some people. Who the hell would ask that!

It’s not your fault their garden is awful. If they want somewhere for their children to play, they should sort out their own space.

MovingBird123 · 26/05/2025 19:53

No! They could tidy up their garden if they want. You are entitled to enjoy yours however you want. Having their trampoline there sounds like a nightmare.

TheyFuckYouUpYourMamAndDad · 26/05/2025 20:06

Bloody hell OP…I just can’t fathom why you are/were even thinking about agreeing to this! 🤯

Give your head a wobble and stop being such a people pleaser 😩🥴

GloriousGoosebumps · 26/05/2025 20:48

Have I misunderstood your post at 19:13? They had a similar strip of land but gave it to their neighbour? Clearing out their garden is the obvious solution but they could ask the neighbour to give back the land.

Dangermoo · 26/05/2025 20:50

Then there will be another boundary, that they literally push, if you show weakness.

Freeme31 · 26/05/2025 20:50

No

Livpool · 26/05/2025 20:53

Tell them to piss off!

ThinWomansBrain · 26/05/2025 20:55

Offer to rent it to them - with the stipulation that it is for the trampoline only so that it doesn't become a junkyard extension.
At least if it's beyond the bottom of your garden, screechy bouncing children will be further away.
Didn't they get allocated extra space at the end of their garden.
