Scissor Sisters tonight ... suddenly going solo

I've had tickets booked for ages to go and Scissor Sisters tonight. Plan was to grab some food first and then onto the concert. Friend has had to pull out last minute- no fault of hers. I still want to go. Can a 50 year old eat out and go to the concert alone? AIBU to think I can still go and have a great night? There's no emergency on friends part by the way. Her Dad had a fall this morning, is home and ok apart from understandably shaken. She doesn't want to leave him alone. I would do the same

At the 02 on Friday, as soon as they came on stage everyone stood up!

Pickledpoppetpickle · 25/05/2025 13:36

Well, this 54 year old takes at least one trip a year on her own so yes, it’s fine. No one will notice, let alone care.

Damnloginpopup · 25/05/2025 13:37

Take your mama

BIWI · 25/05/2025 13:38

@Pickledpoppetpickle cancel the cheque

Spinachpastapicker · 25/05/2025 13:44

I’m delighted you had a great time. I do things by myself too and always enjoy it.

I love threads like these, it's given my day a little boost. Glad you had a good time @bluesky9. That 1st SS album was on my play list for about a decade, so much fun!

bluesky9 · 25/05/2025 14:14

@BIWIit was Alison Goldfrapp. Really was t familiar with her at all, but she complemented them really well and set the night up brilliantky

Yes, she opened the show at the O2 - but we also had special guests Self Esteem and Sir Ian McKellen performing with them, which was amazing.

maddening · 25/05/2025 14:18

We were there last night too - it was an excellent show and thought leeds arena was great too

I was widowed at 50 and all of a sudden had no one to go to things with. Learning to go by myself has been liberating. There's a sense of peace/calm that comes over me when I go on my own, know I'm OK on my own and there's no one else to consider.

WhineAndWine1 · 25/05/2025 14:22

I remember reading an article in cosmo about the table for one fear when I was about 17ish I’m now 40. I thought back then it was nonsense I take myself out all the time for dinner, cinema and the theatre. I’m about to go on a solo holiday in 4 weeks and I’m excited. Please don’t be put off by being solo x

OatFlatWhiteForMe · 25/05/2025 14:23

Nicola Robert’s joined them in Manchester. Who was it last night?

HRTQueen · 25/05/2025 15:12

I'm so glad I did it. Onwards and upwards now. I'll definitely do it again.

I was at a gig alone a few weeks ago and I was surrounded by people who were also alone! I love it!
