Scissor Sisters tonight ... suddenly going solo

I've had tickets booked for ages to go and Scissor Sisters tonight. Plan was to grab some food first and then onto the concert. Friend has had to pull out last minute- no fault of hers. I still want to go. Can a 50 year old eat out and go to the concert alone? AIBU to think I can still go and have a great night? There's no emergency on friends part by the way. Her Dad had a fall this morning, is home and ok apart from understandably shaken. She doesn't want to leave him alone. I would do the same

Go. I went to the theatre on my own last week. Was great

bluesky9 · 24/05/2025 17:49

Thanks all. I know I'm being ridiculous, especially as I did it at the same venue seeing Paul Heaton a few years ago. I know I can do it and will love it, but you know when your confidence suddenly abandons you?!

Also, thanks for all of your experiences of going it alone. I will be proud of myself by the end of the night. I'll definitely report back on their utter fabulousness

OP Im 52 and i go to concerts by myself all the time. I love it. You are there with people who love the singer/group just as much as you and just want to have a great night of singing and dancing. Live music is one of the things i absolutely love participating in although, to be fair i always stay in a local hotel overnight afterwards so im not travelling on the trains alone late at night.

We were there last night. Do not miss it! They’re brilliant and everyone is really friendly. Jake Shears is just the best front man. I think he might have been Tigger in a past life.

I was there last night too! It was fantastic.

Go @bluesky9 - you will really enjoy it.

BIWI · 24/05/2025 17:52

… oh, and I’m 65, so no need to think you’re too old! Grin

Mynewnameis · 24/05/2025 17:53

I saw 3 concerts on my own last year. Sometimes get lucky with friendly neighbours . I imagine ss will be a friendly gig

BobbyBiscuits · 24/05/2025 17:54

Definitely. Something like that as well, it's really upbeat and dancey, so the crowd will probably be really up for it and fun.

If you've got a spare ticket you should try and give it away on a scissor sisters fan page?

Otherwise just go along and enjoy it! I saw them when they first started playing the UK many years ago and it was great. I'm sad that Ana has left though! X

BIWI · 24/05/2025 17:54

Make sure you’ve got your sequins on

Missedthis · 24/05/2025 17:55

I’m jealous.

I love the Scissor Sisters.

<angles for the spare ticket>

😂

Can a 50 year old eat out and go to the concert alone?

No, sorry, this is not allowed at all. 🙄

Yes, I think there’s something in the bye-laws. No hawking, begging, or 50-year-old women going for a night out without a chaperone.

Arlanymor · 24/05/2025 17:55

Wear red lipstick, enjoy the freedom of going solo and report back please!

You’ll have an epic time, I promise, and next time you hear a Scissor Sisters song on the radio you will be transported back to the time when you went out and were a bold, confident lady doing your own thing. Have fun!

Clearinguptheclutter · 24/05/2025 17:57

Yep. Last week I went with a friend to see Kylie. Obvs it was great to go with her but I had wanted someone to go with- once there I realised it would have been perfectly ok to have been there alone

the only downside would be not being able to “debrief” after. I’d want to tell someone how it went!

Goodbiscuits · 24/05/2025 18:00

Definitely don’t miss it! I went last night and it was fantastic

Squigface · 24/05/2025 18:12

Hell yes you can!! Have an amazing time! X

Disturbia81 · 24/05/2025 18:14

I’ve done loads of gigs solo, gives you more chance to just be in the music. Have fun 🩷

ApricotFlan · 24/05/2025 18:20

After missing one too many gigs I really wanted to see because I didn’t know anyone else who wanted to go, I decided it was time to get over it and stop missing out. No one else will give a second thought to the fact you’re on your own! So go, enjoy the music and have a great time 😀

I’m jealous you’re getting to see the Scissor Sisters!

CMOTDibbler · 24/05/2025 18:24

I’m 52 and going to a gig on my own this week (on a converted cargo ship which will be interesting), and I can’t wait! No one else to worry about as I try to get front and centre either

bluesky9 · 24/05/2025 18:25

Thanks all. I'm rolling my eyes at myself to be honest! Just having a post concert beer at The Ship with a lovely couple of strangers. I'm going in with the aim of a fabulous night! I don't recognise myself from a few years back - post lockdown, when I did the same thing. I've pulled myself together ( no big girl knickers required) and I'm off in. I'll report back

I'm glad you have gone. Can't wait to hear all about it!

Jasrun · 24/05/2025 18:31

I holiday and do most things alone. It’s absolutely fine. Enjoy

bluesky9 · 25/05/2025 10:49

It was amazing!

Hurrah! So glad you went and enjoyed it.

Who were the special guests?

CalamityGanon · 25/05/2025 11:37

@bluesky9Wasn’t it just! Jake’s solo stuff is brilliant too as are his solo performances. Huge Paul Heaton fan also and seen him (several times) at Leeds too and as well as numerous other places.

CalamityGanon · 25/05/2025 12:26

@bluesky9But who decided that a Scissor Sister’s gig be all seated? Paul Heaton’s demographic is older and he never has all seated gigs. Having said that it’s the only gig I’ve ever been to where everyone stood up as soon as the came on, stayed standing up and no one complained!
