I'm starting a go fund me to send Starmer on a one way trip into space. Who's with me?

Lighthearted. Ish.

OP posts:
StScholastica · 20/05/2025 08:31

I quite like him.
Didn't mind Rishi or Teresa either.
At least they all seemed serious and professional.

It's the twisted evil shits like Farage that I can't cope with and the smug incompetent nonchalance of Boris and Hancock et al.

Carry on Sir Starmer.

Is this thread the result of the fact that it's quite a good deal.

Without doubt. Inspired, if not sponsored, by the Mail and Telegraph.

Carry on Sir Starmer

I say!

I didn't mention physique.
Voices actually do matter, even if you aren't aware of that. A perfect example can be seen with the first leader of the DDR, Walter Ulbricht.

No, I never said that you said that. Read my post.
I don't think there's a problem with Starmer's voice. That's not in my top main concerns for a Prime Minister.
I am aware of Walter Ulbricht and his high pitched voice. Shall we discuss the 1953 Uprising and the issues of the DDR? It could be an interesting tangent.

Sir Keir tends to the overweight, he was advised to lose weight in the run up to the election. I think he is just going back to his " set point", some people do get heavier when they are stressed, other people find the weight drops off them. Can't see it matter one way or the other TBH.

This. Some people on here are judging on superficial qualities. Which is a shame

Sure, start a thread on the DDR if you like, save this one heading off on a tangent. Not sure it would be that popular though. 😬

Let's see:
"To what extent were the economic policies of the DDR a success 1953-61?"
My yr12s have just completed this essay. No marks to anyone referring to his voice or physique.

What the hell does his weight have to do with it? Imagine saying the same about a female prime minister.

Do we need to imagine? Plenty has been said about our female priminsiters looks over the years.

StandFirm · 20/05/2025 17:57

Interesting that my previous post saying that only paid trolls from hostile nations would not want the best for the UK got deleted... Is that not just a statement of fact? It was not aimed at anyone in particular and yet someone must have complained. How prickly.

Fishing was cited as a big reason for Brexit. I was a remainer btw. But I can imagine even more people are disgruntled with him now.

Its only the old folk businesses are jumping for joy. Finally they can trade abroad without so much red tape.

We studied 'the interwar years', essentially the rise of facism in Germany and Itay, when I did Higher History in S5 - while it definitely was interesting and also an important topic, I probably find the Ulbricht/Honecker period(s) more interesting. I was actually considering studying history at Uni, but ended up going down a completely different subject route.

Helloworlditsmeagain · 20/05/2025 18:16

Youngsters can travel and study abroad. Our food and bills will be cheaper. The Brexit vote was a selfish vote and finally my vote for labour has been worth it.

Yes, more opportunities can only be good.

Clearly, that's meant to be Italy.

KarolKickie · 20/05/2025 18:26

I think he’s done a good job, three trade deals, cuts to welfare, there just isn’t the money. Cuts to immigration- again there isn’t the money.

it’s not the 90s and Gordon has a pot of gold to sell. These are hard times and if we don’t deal with it then Reform will get in

Ah! Interesting. I find the post war Germanys fascinating, such an interesting time. Although at university I did Renaissance and Reformation, and my post grad was in that field.
As well as A level History, I teach A level Politics, which is reassuringly popular.

What on earth are "old folk businesses"?

Lins77 · 20/05/2025 18:40

I'd rather send Farage.

I'd contribute to that for sure.

You can tell he doesn't care because he's the only PM to gain weight once elected.
All others start looking a bit gaunt, a bit more grey. The stress tends to show.

Not our Kier... Bouncing around from policy to policy like a fucking Teletubby.

I've haven't ever studied politics in an official capacity, though I loved economics at school - in fact when I was considering history I was considering joint honours with economics. I don't regret my degree and PhD in the area I choose, but do sometimes wonder if life would be different had I chosen the other appealing path....such is life though! 😀
For now I'll be happy with podcasts and documentaries, it's good German practice too.

At least he finally spoke up about Gaza! Finally

Helloworlditsmeagain · 20/05/2025 18:52

To buy fish and chips is £13.50. £10 for cod and £3.50 for chips come on we are being robbed.
