Does my son’s knee scrape look infected?

He did it on Tuesday at school.
It was a nasty one , but since then it doesn’t seem to be improving much.

Just wondering if it looks infected or just normal for a graze?

looks normal for a graze to me

DownWithCremeEggs · 17/05/2025 17:48

Not a medical professional but it looks absolutely fine to me.

Neveranynamesleft · 17/05/2025 17:49

Have you been putting anything on it such as Savlon or whatever ??

BombayBicycleclub · 17/05/2025 17:49

No

AzureOtter · 17/05/2025 17:49

Totally normal.

Not sure why you'd think it was infected or be worried enough to ask strangers.

LuckysDadsHat · 17/05/2025 17:49

Looks normal to me. My child did the same on Wednesday on her elbow and it looks like this.

Sell123 · 17/05/2025 17:49

I'm a nurse. The redness looks like normal inflammation that would be expected in a healing wound.

rubyslippers · 17/05/2025 17:50

Looks like a normal scab
a pharmacist can always have a look at it whilst GPs are closed

mynameiscalypso · 17/05/2025 17:50

Standard graze. They always take longer to heal than you’d expect.

yeshimabet · 17/05/2025 17:51

Not to me but then I’m just a nobody. Big markers for infection are:

Swollen, hot to touch, redness getting bigger around the graze, tracking.

Grazes are horrid as they’re deep and the new skin is oozing underneath whilst it’s growing. Then every time it gets wet it oozes some more. It needs to dry out.

Trailfinderexpress · 17/05/2025 17:51

Looks absolutely fine. It’s healing. It’s not swollen.

MigGril · 17/05/2025 17:51

Looks normal to me, but I would cover it. Wounds heal faster when moist.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 17/05/2025 17:52

Looks fine.

StickyCoffee · 17/05/2025 17:55

No but put a hydrocolloid plaster over it. More waterproof, promotes healing and doesn’t come off like a normal plaster.

Dinosweetpea · 17/05/2025 18:20

No, it's fine.

Endofyear · 17/05/2025 20:18

Looks normal to me. If redness is spreading, it feels hot or you see pus, I'd get it looked at by a pharmacist - they will tell you if it needs antibiotics.

pilates · 17/05/2025 20:21

Normal

KimberleyClark · 17/05/2025 20:25

Looks like a normal healing wound to me.

Toomanydogwalks · 17/05/2025 20:27

I’d put a plaster over it too, I find I get less scarring when I keep wounds moister while they’re healing. Not sure if anyone else does too.

tripleginandtonic · 17/05/2025 20:35

Does it hurt when it's touched?

Womblingmerrily · 17/05/2025 20:43

Looks good - visible healing

MaisieMouse87 · 17/05/2025 20:48

Looks normal to me and like any other graze my kids have had. If you're worried put Savlon or Sudocrem on it.

Zanatdy · 17/05/2025 20:50

Doesn’t look infected to me, the redness will go down

Survivingnotthriving24 · 17/05/2025 20:52

Don't do this, hydrocolloid dressings are only to be used on wet wounds. It will adhere and rip off the healing skin when removed.

MereNoelle · 17/05/2025 20:54

Looks like an absolutely bog standard grazed knee. Has he never had one before?
