Anyone else hate thinking of what to have for tea every night please

Poopeepoopee · 17/05/2025 16:45

Yes, all of us lol.

Auroraloves · 17/05/2025 16:46

we”re having chilli tonight

Spies · 17/05/2025 16:46

Me! It's quite possibly the worst part of being an adult. I miss the days of not only someone else deciding what we're going to eat but also cooking it.

Yoyokitten · 17/05/2025 16:46

Yes I do, and usually leave it until late before I think about it 😀

Same

Lins77 · 17/05/2025 16:47

Constantly.

I always think I'll do proper menu planning for a fortnight ahead or whatever. I never actually do it.

DustyLee123 · 17/05/2025 16:47

I absolutely despise this. I keep threatening to go to M&S every week, for 7 bung in the oven meals for me, and everyone else can sort themselves out.

Screamingabdabz · 17/05/2025 16:47

Why is it just your job? Is there another adult in the household?

Timeforabiscuit · 17/05/2025 16:47

I ask chat GPT

Gamechanger

Jobsworth7 · 17/05/2025 16:48

Yes. If it was just me I'd probably chuck some pasta on every night and just vary the additions!

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 17/05/2025 16:48

Also having chilli tonight but yes I hate having to decide. The whole planning, shopping, putting it away, cooking it, tidying up after...I hate it all

ToffeePennie · 17/05/2025 16:50

Me. And I hate it. If I had my way I would eat my 3 favourite things on repeat (cottage pie, spag bol or jacket potatoes) but I have to take my husband (autistic) and kids (autistic and a flighty 7 year old) into the equation. I never know if my tea will be well received or not.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 17/05/2025 16:52

Me: Will you cook tonight?
DH: Of course, what would you like?
Me:
DH: Ow! Why did you do that?

Which is why we get Hello Fresh and let them choose.

MumbleJumble123 · 17/05/2025 16:53

I have a 4 week meal plan that I made about a year ago (with a shopping list at the bottom).
It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. We do sometimes make changes if we see a recipe we want to try or if our schedule changes but it gives a really good starting point (I have ADHD and we had a lot more food waste when I just went to the supermarket and hoped for the best!)
4 weeks is long enough that it doesn’t feel too repetitive but takes the stress out of always planning from scratch.

I’m happy to share mine if you want to PM me (it’s just a word doc so easy to alter to suit your family)

ZebraPrintt · 17/05/2025 17:06

Yes I hate it so much. No one else in the house seems to have any input either

FutureCatMum · 17/05/2025 17:06

Yep this is one of the (minor) challenges of living alone. No one else to make suggestions or even cook when the kids are away.
I mostly meal plan but on the weeks I don’t it’s easy to fall into making the same meals then I get bored of them.
After much deliberation I’m looking forward to a fish butty for tea.

FloraBotticelli · 17/05/2025 17:13

Yes please @MumbleJumble123, have messaged you!

Yes this is all such a chore - thinking, shopping, best before dates, budget, varying appetite, family preferences, food waste, cooking, clearing up… it takes up so much time.

I would graze/fast a lot more if it was just me, but it’s me plus child to think about unfortunately!

GoldLash · 17/05/2025 17:14

I’ve always hated it

Endofyear · 17/05/2025 17:17

I did it for 30 years, the worst thing is when you ask the family what do you fancy for tea and they all say 'I don't mind'!

Now it's just me & DH and we often just have cheese on toast or cold meats/salmon/mackerel and salad. Bliss!

HousedInMySoul · 17/05/2025 17:17

Yes, I remember my mum saying she'd had enough of having to think of what to cook. I was a teenager and just wondered what her problem was. Now I know! Meal boxes do help with inspiration, though

Ecrire · 17/05/2025 17:18

we are having Eurovision nibbles dinner tonight in front of telly! Just me DH ds9 and dd5 and inevitably Dad of

user65342 · 17/05/2025 17:23

Yes, so I do a meal plan for the month ahead with weekly shopping lists. What we are having gets written on the kitchen calendar and that is what we have.

NeedABabelFish · 17/05/2025 17:29

Me! I get so fed up with it. I try to meal plan sometimes but I even find that a bit of a chore because DH and I have totally different food preferences (DH - ADHD and prefers boring beige food. Me - vegetarian and prefer tasty colourful food) and trying to think of meals that we'll both enjoy is hard work Confused

Katemax82 · 17/05/2025 18:28

Screamingabdabz · 17/05/2025 16:47

Why is it just your job? Is there another adult in the household?

If i leave it to my husband we have burgers. Every time!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 17/05/2025 20:14

Pizza but I'm actually craving a curry so might make one instead
