To ask for my money back? Botox not worked .

Australiaday · 16/05/2025 13:12

I had Botox last year administered by a beauty therapist and I was blown away. It exceeded my expectations.
The therapist is currently on Maternity leave and I felt I would like to get Botox done as 6 months on my frown is back.
I went to a qualified nurse two weeks ago. I paid £300 for 3 areas and it just hasn’t worked. At my top up I politely explained that I had hoped the results would look like my previous ones but there are clearly still many wrinkles and lines ( I’m 40)
Two weeks on from the top up and I’m so disappointed.

My first experience of Botox was incredible and £100 less!!

What can I do ? The nurse owns her practice so there is no one ‘above her ‘ to complain to. I’m worried she will shut me down . Can I ask for a refund .

Tell her that it hasn’t worked. I’m sure she’ll top it up for free.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 16/05/2025 13:18

You can try. I had this once - tried a new place and they argued that the remaining wrinkles were static therefore not affected by Botox. But when I went back to my old place, it worked fine. But be prepared for that excuse.

ButteredRadish · 16/05/2025 13:19

I had Botox on my scalp (on the nhs) it didn’t work either. Sooooo painful

AlmostAJillSandwich · 16/05/2025 13:20

If she's injected how much you paid for into the right places then no, i think its cheeky to ask for a refund for not liking the results.
You've had the product and her time, that shouldn't be free just because it doesn't look how you hoped/your body reacted differently this time.

It hasn’t worked at all. You don’t pay for a certain amount e.g a syringe I don’t belive. I paid for 3 areas and absolutely nothing was achieved. I paid £100 less and had brilliant results before.
if I paid furniture , clothes or a car and it didn’t work I would get a refund. So this service has not worked at all but I should get on with it ?
I don’t believe she administered correctly or have enough .

In the event I had severe wrinkles and needed extra areas done I’d pay.
i get if you have long hair it will cost more to dye as you require more product.

Definitely inform the Nurse you aren't happy. If she cares about her business she should get you back in for another consultation.

TeenagersAngst · 16/05/2025 13:31

I’ve had Botox several times, once I went to a different clinic and it just didn’t work. They were happy to top up three times but even I got fed up after they and gave up.

I don’t think it was to do with the amount injected, I think it’s that different places use different products and different brands. Don’t forget, there are black market products around although I would hope a nurse with prescribing rights wouldn’t feel the need to resort to that.

WtafIsThat · 16/05/2025 13:48

Do you know which type of Botox it was? Was it a different type than the one you had previously?

Maybe she put less in. The person I go to under doses to prevent droopy eyebrows.

Can you feel it when you raise your brows etc?

reesespieces123 · 16/05/2025 14:02

Entirely depends on the terms and conditions that you presumably signed before the appointment.

Different places use different brands and some charge differently. I have only had it not work once and that was with a topop up. I asked about if it didnt work after the top up and he basically said you would have to pay for more! I didn't go back to them again.

When I next had it elsewhere I asked if it had perhaps been watered down and she said no- but different brands have different strengths (and prices) the place where it hadn't worked there was the injector ( a doctor )) and the salon he worked our of - which meant the money was being split two ways - so she said they probably had bought cheaper stuff to keep the cost to the client down but for them to make money.

All the other times I have had it - it has been a nurse prescriber - either mobile or working out of their own home and I have asked to see what they were using and not always needed a top up.

The last person I saw - I paid for the vial - I had 3 areas - but next time - I will pay for what is usually used on 3 areas but have it injected in 2 - as my eyes are nt bad but the 11 lines - needed more than she would have thought but that was because I had not had any in over a year.

I think you will be hard pushed to get your money back - you may get her willing to give a bit more.

Madformaltesers · 16/05/2025 15:36

Try and find out what brand you had first time and then this time.
my first time was great, second and then third rubbish, all different brands

Sunderella9 · 16/05/2025 15:46

I’ve had it work sometimes and not others with different people. Agree with others saying it’s likely down to the product used. Typically after a 3rd injection (second top up) it’s worked. Some places advertise a charge if extra top ups are required - avg seems to be about £30

ThejoyofNC · 16/05/2025 15:50

There is no guarantee with services like this so I'm not sure you'll get far asking for a refund.

You paid for 3 areas of Botox and that's what you received. You didn't pay for a specific outcome so I can't really see how you'd have any right to get your money back.

MyVIsForVendetta · 16/05/2025 15:55

I’m a nurse that does Botox and there could be a few reasons for this.

  • she could be using a different product, there’s three main ones, Botox, Azalure and Boccoture (there’s also others)
  • she could be putting more saline into the solution
  • she could be using less units in each area
  • shes shit
1HappyTraveller · 16/05/2025 15:59

It hasn’t worked AT ALL or it hasn’t worked to your satisfaction?

If it’s the former I would inform the nurse in case it’s a dodgy batch.

If it’s the latter it’s a bit tough really. You can always feed back but I doubt you’ll be getting a refund.

Alwaysinamood · 16/05/2025 16:29

You could actually be immune to it - ie it won’t work wherever you go !

Except it has worked for her.

I don’t understand how you even came to that theory. 🤔

Ihopeyouhavent · 16/05/2025 17:05

This is why changed clinics. Used to work great, and then stopped working, my new therapist said lots of people "water" the botox down now.

I now pay about £280 for 3 areas and it lasts 4months and starts working within 2 days. i love it.

QueenieL · 16/05/2025 17:08

I’d go back. I’ve had it from a few places - one didn’t give good results at all but he’d admitted that he only ever puts the slightest bit in for very natural results and you need to go often. Like the idea of natural but not nothing - and especially not having to pay every few weeks for more.

My now regular person is a nurse and only once in one area have I felt like it didn’t work with her. She gave me a really good top up at the 3 week post check and all was great.

Can you scrunch your forehead and wiggle everywhere? Does it feel like it worked but not look like it has? I’d definitely go back for a chat.

Bechange997 · 16/05/2025 17:11

Botox does not always “take” ie work even if it’s worked before and some people can develop resistance even if they’ve not had much. I would read her T’s and Cs in regard to not being happy with results. If you don’t go in all guns blazing she may offer to top it up for you for free.

it also may have been her fault/ she may not have injected correctly. Maybe worth asking around if anyone else has used her and what they thought.

I would presume you have resistance.

He only puts “a tiny bit in” so he can use the vial you paid over the odds for, between 2-3 clients and make the most money.

don’t fall for the bullshit

You can't compare furniture to humans!

There is no guarantee botox will have the desired results. Some people also build up botox resistance after just one go!

All humans react differently to botox and you won't react necessarily the same as the first time.

Speak to the person who did it, but unless you can prove their technique or product was at fault then you're not entitled to a refund. It might just have been your own botox resistance that prevented it working.

HotHoney · 16/05/2025 17:56

Sounds like she used a cheap tox

It was Boccoture that was used .

I just feel so disappointed. But maybe it is an expensive lesson learnt and as soon as the First Lady is back from maternity I will go back to her.
