To ask for my money back? Botox not worked .

I had Botox last year administered by a beauty therapist and I was blown away. It exceeded my expectations.
The therapist is currently on Maternity leave and I felt I would like to get Botox done as 6 months on my frown is back.
I went to a qualified nurse two weeks ago. I paid £300 for 3 areas and it just hasn’t worked. At my top up I politely explained that I had hoped the results would look like my previous ones but there are clearly still many wrinkles and lines ( I’m 40)
Two weeks on from the top up and I’m so disappointed.

My first experience of Botox was incredible and £100 less!!

What can I do ? The nurse owns her practice so there is no one ‘above her ‘ to complain to. I’m worried she will shut me down . Can I ask for a refund .

It hasn’t worked AT ALL or it hasn’t worked to your satisfaction?

If it’s the former I would inform the nurse in case it’s a dodgy batch.

If it’s the latter it’s a bit tough really. You can always feed back but I doubt you’ll be getting a refund.

It hasn’t worked at all. Like nothing . And it cost £300.
I am not being dramatic but nothing has happened. The first time I had Botox my head felt so heavy for the first few days. This time I didn’t feel anything but assumed it was just a different reaction. But no changes in the ones at all.

I once went to a national chain and felt they were so tight with the number of units they put in, it didn’t work as effectively as my usual lady. End result is I don’t go back there as they charged for top ups and I felt it wasn’t good value for money.
i bet she didn’t put very much in!

desiderata328 · 16/05/2025 17:59

This is why I gave up with it in the end. Some of them are just so stingy with it or use inferior products. You can definitely ask for a top up. Many practitioners under inject and expect you to go for a follow up appointment. I’ve never been refused a top up when it hasn’t worked. They’ll never in a million years refund you though.

Did they or you do ‘before’ photos? If so use them to illustrate to the practitioner that the treatment didn’t work.

Any decent practitioner would want this feeding back to them. The product could have been stored incorrectly, or it could be a faulty batch. Let them know and see what solution they offer. It should have done something.

Absolutely go back to her.

Film your frown, your raised eyebrows and your smile.

100% go back to her.

Id be gutted if my product didn’t work on someone.

FrankyGoesToBollywood · 16/05/2025 20:10

It sounds to me like she hasn’t actually used the right product or she hasn’t injected in the right place. Does she have any other reviews saying similar? I’d be suspicious as Botox should have quite a visible effect!

bumbers1 · 16/05/2025 20:35

Ask how many ml she used the first visit and then for the top up. I have a massive frown and so have the max (30ml) at the initial appointment and then 10ml at the follow up a couple of weeks later.

I really really hope you mean units! 😉

Stickortwigs · 16/05/2025 20:51

Have you contacted her to tell her?

Maddy70 · 16/05/2025 22:37

Just tell them it's not the result you have had previously. You need a top up

Itsoneofthose · 16/05/2025 22:59

Firstly you should speak to her. Ask her what product she used and what dosage. It may be that the product was different to what you had previously. There are a variety on the market. . It may also be that she has injected you in different places to what your original nurse did (a different treatment pattern). Plus, there is no such thing as a Botox ‘top up’ so I’m not sure what people are referring to here. You should have signed a consent for prior to the treatment which will most likely have mentioned varying results and therefore you’re probably not entitled to a refund. She may do something as a nice gesture though.

Why do you feel there is no such thing as a top up??

Every practitioner I know does top ups.

Including me.

Not everyone’s facial muscles present the same in strength and movement, so the client coming back to have a top up in a different places to get best results is almost a given.

It’s only when i have done someone’s face many times that I know exactly where to put it every single time to prevent them needing to have a second trip back to me.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 17/05/2025 09:13

Go back for a top up.
Sometimes they're cautious which us understandable with the risk involved.

I was left with a dropped eye once, scary, now the doctor is very cautious, avoids my eyebrows.

Thee is always a 2 week check up, if required.

PeapodMcgee · 17/05/2025 09:16

What are the terms and conditions in the consent form you signed?

Kazzybingbong · 17/05/2025 10:17

I’ve had the exact same experience. My first time was about 10 years ago. She was a nurse and came to my friend’s house. It was amazing, it worked perfectly. I used her for a couple of years until I got pregnant.

When my daughter was about one, my husband gifted me some Botox from a very fancy place and it was three times what I used to pay. And it was awful. My eyelids were heavy and my forehead felt heavy too but I also still had lines. I got the top up and nothing changed. They called back a couple of weeks later to see how it was. I told her I still wasn’t happy. She said we’ll get you back in. Grey I thought! She then said it would be £350 or something! I was fuming. As if I’d pay that when they clearly weren’t very good.

I’ve not had it for years now as my first girl doesn’t do it anymore and I just don’t have recommendations from anyone so I’m just wrinkly these days 🤣

Every time I’ve had Botox, I’ve gone back for a top up.

WtafIsThat · 17/05/2025 13:07

I always have a top up as well, if it’s needed. I go back after a couple of weeks and my Botox lady has a look and tops up if needed, or not. And don’t pay for it.

jasmine465 · 18/05/2025 10:58

As others have said, a review and top up if required at 2 weeks post administration is the norm.

I certainly offered this to all my clients, especially new clients as you never know exactly how much they will need for the desired effect. The 2 week review would be remote if they were fully satisfied, yet if they still wanted more of an effect they would come back for a top up appointment. As Botox is a prescription only medication, the vial prescribed for them would be kept in the fridge for the 2 weeks in case needed for the top up - your nurse should have done this too.

Contact her today and explain you’re not satisfied with the results and would like a top up - it’s the industry norm and she should be used to clients doing this. Hope you get it sorted!

Except it has worked for her.

I don’t understand how you even came to that theory. 🤔

Immunity can develop over time. I have been having Botox in three (and at one time four) places on the NHS for 20 years for medical reasons - and much bigger doses than the cosmetic injections for wrinkles.

They tell me, I can develop immunity at any time, and once I have, it will never work again. They tell me:

  1. On no account, can I have another botox injection within three months of the first one
  2. I cannot have botox within three weeks of a vaccination - such as the flu jab
  3. Don’t rub the injection sites - it disperses the Botox
  4. Take it easy for several days afterwards (it can feel like flu afterwards)

A professor of neurology from the top unit in the country now does mine - last time, one of the injections didn't work. It happens sometimes. They have to push through the scar tissue, and maybe he did it slightly to one side?

There are different ideas, as to where the injections should go - most consultants do one of mine in the trapezius in the neck, on the basis gravity pulls it down and along the shoulder too. One consultant from the same top unit did the injection for the trapezius in my shoulder - it was really painful for weeks!

Based on the fact, they won’t do any Botox injection again within 3 months, they wouldn't give me another one, even if it hasn't worked!
