Ok, so long story kept relatively sort -
there’s a woman who lives at the bottom of our cul-de-sac. Lives her entire life on Facebook, so is always posting on community pages.
i’ve seen several posts from her asking if anyone could spare a couple of hours to sit in with her whilst she drives as she’s learning, talk about doing her theory etc.
I’ve now seen her driving twice, alone.
now, partly because my children play on the street, and partly because I’m a nosey cow, I clicked on her (public) Facebook profile and there is not a single post about her passing her test, being able to drive etc etc, which wouldn’t be a problem ordinarily, but she is the type of woman to post when she’s caught up with her housework, or to tell people what she’s had for tea, or to complain about the weather.
There’s actually quite a few posts complaining about flashes and floaters in her eyes and her poor vision!
is there anyone I can call to tell my concerns to (that she’s driving without a full licence)?

Out of interest, do you or have you had any negative interactions with this neighbour?

GrouachMacbeth · 16/05/2025 08:35

DVLA online anonymously if you know, suspect medical.
101 if you feel dangerous driving.

"Oh don't report her, she's old and will die soon and sooner without her car" - SPLAT as she runs over ds and DD.

JoyousEagle · 16/05/2025 08:36

You can report anonymously to the DVLA online.

Gundogday · 16/05/2025 08:36

I’m guessing ring 101 or crimestoppers.

Swiftie1878 · 16/05/2025 08:36

101

Nope, no relationship at all - positive or negative.
only aware of her because of her Facebook presence.
to add though, even if I did have a positive relationship with her, I’d not ignore someone potentially driving without a full licence.

You seem to be on all these community pages a lot!

Yes report to dvla. Today.

ThatDaringEagle · 16/05/2025 08:50

So you are saying " potentially without a licence".

So to be clear on this, you're going to report your neighbour to the authorities because she didn't post the ( very likely) fact that she has got her licence, on her public profile on facebook!?

Jeez, some neighbour you are hey!!

P.s. if you're really concerned (& not just a nosey, total trouble making b) for starters, how about just asking your neighbour how her driving test went say? Or perhaps congratulating her that she's now got her licence, & then monitoring her reaction & response to this, leading on to a more intrusive chat if needs be, say?? Before jumping to ill conceived conclusions based on what evidence exactly.... oh just your suspicion, is it!?

Honestly, jeez...

PositiveLife · 16/05/2025 08:53

My police force have a live chat you can contact them on. I would assume they'd be able to run checks on vehicle/driver.

well, if she had passed, it’s 99.9% certain that she would post about it - when I looked at her profile I was able to see how many hours she’d slept for the night before as she has literally posted everything that she does with her day.
she would have posted if she had passed.
plus, if she has and I’m wrong, she’s not going to be in any trouble, is she?
If she shouldn’t be driving, and she’s driving past my home multiple times a day then what? Yeah, maybe she’ll pass by without incident. Or maybe - best case scenario she damages my vehicle with no insurance, worse case she kills my kid.
this is only going to be an issue for her if I’m right.

Okay, so will you let us know on here if your suspicions (purely based on her not posting about passing her driving test on her public profile on facebook) were proven anyway correct?

Yup, no problem - happy to update.

Will be glad if I’m wrong.

Some of these replies are strange. It doesn’t really matter how or why the op thinks this lady doesn’t have a full licence surely, only that there is (reasonable, given the context!) doubt she does. If that’s the case, of course, report her. As has been said, it’ll only cause problems for this lady if the op is correct. It not, no harm, no foul.

TinyTempest · 16/05/2025 13:01

As you're both on the Facebook group so much, why not ask her on there why she's driving around alone?

Not sure why you’ve got that idea that we are ‘both on the Facebook group so much’
do you not scroll through past posts when you are having a little browse?
it takes around 5 minutes of my day to have a little look - and when someone repeatedly posts the same thing, you notice it more and more.

as said above, some comments on here are odd.

You are getting a lot of unpleasant responses. Personally, if I had cause to think someone was driving around with no licence (and it wouldn't matter if it was because of something I read on Facebook or overheard on a bus) then I would report it. If she hasn't passed her test she shouldn't be driving on her own.

She might be perfectly safe - and a better driver than some who have licences - but that's not the point. She is potentially uninsured and no-one wants their car hit by an uninsured driver.

Ah yes, but it's not because of something the OP read on facebook is it?

It's because her neighbour didn't write up anything on Facebook about her passing her test that she's then reporting her to the authorities . I mean come on!?

Createausername1970 · 16/05/2025 16:41

I do take your point @ThatDaringEagle , just because someone hasn't posted it on Facebook that they passed their test, doesn't mean they haven't.

I dislike social media anyway, most of it is showing off, so nothing I do goes on-line, I don't have any SM accounts. So someone could theoretically report me for non-payment of my road tax because I haven't explicitly said on Facebook that I paid it. Which would be ridiculous.

But I also take the OPs point, that this person is a constant poster on FB, posts really mundane stuff on a frequent basis, so it appears to bit odd not to have posted that they passed their test.

I can see both sides, but on balance I would still err on the side of caution and report.

It wasn't a dig lol.

But it would be relevant to ask on her post.

Right, ok - so up to 3 weeks ago she’s begging for people to sit with her so she can get some driving practice and mentioning a need to pass her theory.
this week she’s driving around solo with no learner stickers.
she practically shares every fart she does on social media, she shares that she needs to pass her theory on social media - but there’s no mention of her passing either her theory or her test.
That doesn’t concern you at all?
i wouldn’t think twice if it was someone who posted in a ‘normal’ way hadn’t mentioned it.

Clearly a backstory.
Either way… no way will you update the thread!

I think for your own mental health op, it might be wise to hide this woman on your social media

Hallywally · 17/05/2025 09:35

Of course you should report someone driving without a licence- it’s a serious offence. She’s a risk to herself, other drivers and pedestrians.

TopographicalTime · 17/05/2025 09:41

DVLA or 101. Definitely not unreasonable to report her - assuming she doesn't have a secret driving twin sister??
