To not want to go on holiday because weather is great here and to feel wronged

Was off for a week last month and the weather was really dreadful the entire time. Went on a staycation and it pretty much spoiled it.

Going abroad in a few days and the weather here is forecast to remain wall to wall glorious sunshine for days on end. Weather where we are going is drizzle and meh.

I don't only go away for weather etc but I feel really pissed off 😞 it feels like I never win with the weather and the weather gods are completely against me.

YANBU as everyone hates this feeling if they live in an area which rarely gets good weather. I’m west Scotland and it’s gorgeous - we usually get one lovely week in May and September and that’s about it!!! Nearly 3 weeks of good weather is incredible and I’d be raging if I’d paid for a sunshine holiday abroad during one of our very rare nice weeks.
But I hope you have a brilliant time anyway!

bluebellthistle · 13/05/2025 16:05

I'm also Scotland so you totally understand how this feels!!

Never do I go abroad in May again. I've since heard it's statistically the dryest month.

YANBU. Bloody typical, isn't it?

Kiwi83 · 13/05/2025 16:07

FFS I hate it when this happens 💐

Dreichweather · 13/05/2025 16:09

It’s the start of GCSE and year 6 SAT week. The weather is always glorious.

MotherOfCatBoy · 13/05/2025 16:22

Went to Mallorca some years ago at Easter - rain, winds, relentless drizzle, v unseasonable cold. V disappointed. Back home in Wales it was scorcher after record breaking scorcher. Grr.

In all seriousness, I think it’s climate change making weather patterns much more extreme and unpredictable. We haven’t flown since, don’t intend to, and when we go to France in the summer we drive and wait til high summer.

outdooryone · 13/05/2025 16:33

YANBU - it is frustrating.
In my view, working in an area around climate change and adaptation, there will be more and more of this. 'Reliable' weather patterns are a thing of the past, and any weather patterns there are will be changing permanently. We face a lot of places that have gone from hot to too hot, from warm and dry to chance of rain and storms, from wet and cold to mild etc etc.

CoralOP · 13/05/2025 16:55

If it makes you feel any bettet I've just returned from Majorca at the weekend.

All the apps (met office, BBC and accuweather) were saying 100% chance of rain most of the day and I was sitting there is gorgeous sunshine with not a cloud in the sky thinking what the hell are you talking about, complete lies!

I kept getting news stories pop up on my phone saying 'tourists consider cancelling holidays amidst the torrential weather', it was ridiculous, it was lovely, I ignore them now!
Even if it is bad weather it rarely lasts long when your abroad x

MidnightPatrol · 13/05/2025 16:57

To be honest leaving the country between May - August is probably mad, as that’s when we have the best weather all year!

cherrycola66 · 13/05/2025 16:59

The thing is, going on holiday is a holiday regardless of the weather here or there, it will make a difference to have time off, not have to cook, explore, sleep how long you want etc

Cherrytree86 · 13/05/2025 17:11

its not that warm in uk OP and even when it is sunny in uk it’s only warm in day time and not evenings. Whereas abroad you can wear little dresses etc at 10pm

It’s boiling here in the SW. We’ve just come back from Italy where it rained nearly every day & I certainly was not in little dresses at 10pm at night. Enjoy your holiday OP. Hopefully the forecast isn’t accurate.

I always say to my friends who are not stuck to school holidays that early - mid May is a good time for a UK break. But enjoy, you’ll still have a great time!

Scotland in May is 99% of the time. absolutely GLORIOUS. I would never book for May!! I always tell my family who live abroad to visit me in May. September is second choice as it’s always beautiful

My logical brain is trying to tell me this 😄 however no lie ins as it's a city break

You may not be able to guarantee sunshine when children are in school, but you know the weather will be wetter when they are on holiday.

It's 23 degrees in Glasgow! That's tropical for us!

It's 19 degrees in Lanzarote.

Yanbu, OP

I’ve just come back from a weekend in Croatia where it was slightly cooler than it has been here in the day and distinctly cold at night. Not happy at all.

26 degrees and sunny in Brussels today (where I live) and 22 and raining in Calabria (where I am going next week). It still has time to perk up 🙏
